As many of you know Apple has refreshed it’s Macbook Pro line of mobile computers. Thew new Pro’s feature some of the most powerful specs in mobile computing history. One of the biggest and most desired features for Macbook users was the inclusion of the new Intel Core i7 processor. The processor rocked all benchmarks between its Core2Duo carrying predecessor by almost 3x! Other features for the new MBP include an NVIDIA GeForce graphics processor, the standard iSight camera built in, a 500gb harddrive, and about 8 hours of battery life making it a pretty solid investment for the price. Although the overall looks of the unibody Macbook Pro has really not changed in about 2 years it offers the same stunning good looks that the good folks over in Cupertino, CA have become known for. Overall this is a must buy for anyone needing some serious power in a beautiful package.

A prototype build of the newest iPhone model was found at a bar and has sparked a frenzied interest amongst tech analyst, bloggers, and all around nerds, like my self. Gizmodo.com an acclamed tech blog obtained possesion of the prototype model by offering $5,000 to the person who found it! Nothing is really known about the prototype except that it is the latest build. Only time will tell if this will hurt Apple’s plans or help.

Hi’ya gaming fans it is I Darth Chew with another mind blowing review and, what a review I have for ya. I’ve just finished kicking the God’s of mount Olympus’ asses and boy it was awesome. I know you’re all wondering what I am talking about. No worries I’ll tell you, I’m talking about the new installment of the God of War series God of War III for the PS3. And, let me say this, it kicks ass and it’s something I highly recommend anyone to pick up and give it a shot. But, before I go into my review let me warn you right here and now. I will not be letting the ending out of the proverbial bag. I know you might hate me and I’ll have to manage but that’s the truth I want you to go out and play the hell out of this game just like I did. Believe me it’ll be worth it. Now I give you the review of GOWIII. The game begins where the last one left off you as Kratos climbing Gaia. Remember folks this is based on Greek Mythos here. Kratos is after revenge on Zeus

as was explained in the previous installments. Now, real quick if you haven’t played the first two God of Wars I’d recommend you do so. So, go ahead I’ll wait till you catch up…done? Good now as I continue. Like I said before GOWIII picks up right where the second one left off. Now Kratos is climbing mount Olympus on top of Gaia as well as the other Titans as to assault the Gods. As they look down on the Titans coming up Hermes, Helios, Poseidon, and Hades mount a defensive, taking out a few of the Titans. Now, you must fight the Gods in order to exact your revenge on Zeus and win the game. But, this doesn’t happen right away as you see when you defeat the God Poseidon, Kratos and Gaia reach Zeus he knocks them off the mountain with a bolt of lighting. As Gaia is climbing back up Kratos slips and falls from the back of Gaia. Gaia states to Kratos that he has only been a pawn and that she will not help him with his revenge. Now, I won’t ruin the rest of the game just that you have to battle your way up from Hades and with the use of your newly acquired Blades of Exile (yeah, I know cool name), which were given to you by Athena. Now the game play of GOWIII is similar to that of the previ-
ous installments of the series. The player controls Kratos (well duh) in a combination of combat, with puzzle elements. Kratos’s weapons as I said earlier are named the blades of Exile that were given to him by Athena. The blades are a few of several new weapons that kick ass and bring havoc to the monsters and creatures within the game. As, well as all the awesome carnage that is let loose when you kill and destroy the creatures and monsters. Now, unlike the previous games in the series, the use of magic is limited to the weapons that are equipped. A quick example is the Army of Sparta is available only when Kratos is equipped with the Blades of Exile. Each weapon has it’s own magical ability. And, playing the game will show you which weapons have which magical abilities, but for now I’ve said enough and shown enough. Now, it’s time for you to go out there grab this awesome game and play the hell out of it. And, believe me when I say that once you pop in the game into your system you are not going to want to stop till you’re done. This is Darth Chew signing off on another awesome kick ass review. RULES REALLY CAN SUCK… BY: JOHN CAIN
...I mean, most of us are pretty good at stretching the limits and pushing the boundaries of right and wrong…no big deal. Unless you happen to be talking about food safety. Being careful in the way you handle food can be a matter of life and death if you don’t follow a few simple Rules. Here you’ll find basic strategies to keep you clean and safe as you experiment and continue your journey into cooking. I’ve also given you one of my all time favorite recipes this month, it’s for a little vegetarian dish from the Mediterranean and is as easy to make as it is delicious.
PREPARATION
BASIC FOOD HANDLING Safe steps in food handling, cooking, and storage are essential to prevent food borne illness. You can’t see, smell, or taste harmful bacteria that may cause illness. In every step of food preparation, follow these four guidelines to keep food safe: • Clean — Wash hands and surfaces often. • Separate — Don’t cross-contaminate. • Cook — Cook to proper temperatures. • Chill — Refrigerate promptly.
SHOPPING • Purchase refrigerated or frozen items after selecting your non-perishables. • Never choose meat or poultry in packaging that is torn or leaking. • Do not buy food past “Sell-By,” “Use-By,” or other expiration dates.
SERVING • Hot food should be held at 140 °F or warmer. • Cold food should be held at 40 °F or colder. • When serving food at a buffet, keep food hot with chafing dishes, slow cookers, and warming trays. Keep food cold by nesting dishes in bowls of ice or use small serving trays and replace them often. • Perishable food should not be left out more than 2 hours at room temperature (1 hour when the temperature is above 90 °F).
LEFTOVERS
• Discard any food left out at room temperature for more than 2 hours (1 hour if the temperature was above 90 °F). • Place food into shallow containers and immediately put in the refrigerator or freezer for rapid cooling. • Use cooked leftovers within 4 days.
REFREEZING
Meat and poultry defrosted in the refrigerator may be refrozen before or after cooking. If thawed by other methods, cook before refreezing.

• Always wash hands with warm water and soap for 20 seconds before and after handling food. • Don’t cross-contaminate. Keep raw meat, poultry, fish, and their juices away from other food. After cutting raw meats, wash cutting board, utensils, and counter tops with hot, soapy water. • Cutting boards, utensils, and counter tops can be sanitized by using a solution of 1 tablespoon of unscented, liquid chlorine bleach in 1 gallon of water. • Marinate meat and poultry in a covered dish in the refrigerator.
COOKING
• Beef, veal, and lamb steaks, roasts, and chops may be cooked to 145 °F. • All cuts of pork, 160 °F. • Ground beef, veal and lamb to 160 °F. • All poultry should reach a safe minimum internal temperature of 165 °F.
THAWING
• Refrigerator: The refrigerator allows slow, safe thawing. Make sure thawing meat and poultry juices do not drip onto other food. • Cold Water: For faster thawing, place food in a leak-proof plastic bag. Submerge in cold tap water. Change the water every 30 minutes. Cook immediately after thawing. • Microwave: Cook meat and poultry immediately after microwave thawing.

STORAGE • Always refrigerate perishable food within 2 hours (1 hour when the temperature is above 90 °F). • Check the temperature of your refrigerator and freezer with an appliance thermometer. The refrigerator should be at 40 °F or below and the freezer at 0 °F or below. • Cook or freeze fresh poultry, fish, ground meats, and variety meats within 2 days; other beef, veal, lamb, or pork, within 3 to 5 days. • Perishable food such as meat and poultry should be wrapped securely to maintain quality and to prevent meat juices from getting onto other food. • To maintain quality when freezing meat and poultry in its original package, wrap the package again with foil or plastic wrap that is recommended for the freezer. • In general, high-acid canned food such as tomatoes, grapefruit, and pineapple can be stored on the shelf for 12 to 18 months. Low-acid canned food such as meat, poultry, fish, and most vegetables will keep 2 to 5 years — if the can remains in good condition and has been stored in a cool, clean, and dry place. Discard cans that are dented, leaking, bulging, or rusted.

Chop the potatoes into cubes. Toss with olive oil and spread on a baking sheet and cook in oven on 400 degrees for 20-25 minutes or until tender. In a pan sauté cilantro, garlic and olive oil, add potatoes and toss, season with salt and pepper.

Why the name Cali Swag Distritct?
What’s the inspiration behind “Jerk Talk”?
The name was actually created by C.O. “BIG WAD” he had the name before we were even a group. So when we all came together and he saw the talent and how diverse we were the name stuck. To break it down, California is where we from we and we all have individual swag, all of us are just so different. The district is our city. We’re Inglewood natives and that’s our district.
That was just something I came up with just because the circle was so big. That was something we just did for fun. I made a beat at the house and took it to the studio to show the other guys. I told them “Let’s make a song, I got a beat and a hook.” So we put the song together, and just because it was so fun and all our friends liked it we did a video for it. We were really pushing it but once we came out with “Teach you how to Dougie”, that song just fell out by the wayside.
Speaking of swag what’s it like being in a group with so many different egos? We clash at times but since we’re so close, I mean we’ve been at this for a long time since way before this music even came out so we always try to get back to a brotherly vibe. We don’t stay mad at each other we do argue but we never really fight or anything like that
What does your touring schedule look like? We got a few dates right now. I’m not too positive on what’s on lock right now. But, I do know that we will be in San Antonio in a couple of weeks. From there we will just be hopping around date to date you know.
What is the Dougie?
Where can people get the album?
It’s actually a dance in Texas, we found out about it a few months back. We were gonna do a dance but no one had written a song about it. So we took the dance and wrote a song about it and made it bigger than it was. We made it as loud as Texas.
Our album will be dropping in September but Right now you can download “Teach Me How to Dougie” on iTunes. We’re really working hard on this album and trying to figure out what will be our next single. I think we got it but we have to make a video before we release it.

Do you feel that switching labels has given you a new start? Absolutely! First getting off of Trustkill was truly a blessing. We did what we had to do, fulfilled our contract and toured non-stop for them. We never even felt the love from them and never really got the push we deserved. To have Rise Records behind us now is a blessing because we finally have the support we need to get to the next level. Many people don’t understand what a label should do. In short, they should support their talent. Rise just has a new, fresh, and energetic approach to supporting their bands all the way through the record cycle. After venting for 5 albums what is it that keeps this band sounding angrier, heavier, and darker each time? It’s a sort of the thing where you
have to find your muse. This record is about the heartache of doing this for so long. Many people aren’t aware of what you have to sacrifice to make this career happen. The hardest part of making this your career is all the things you have to sacrifice. Some people think it comes easy. Everyone thinks they know your band. For us, it’s just like that. We’re constantly just moving through it all and there will always be negativity, and for this record it became my muse. What was the feeling starting this record? This one was definitely a different vibe. We were very relaxed about this record. We knew it was going to get a different type of push which, was a very important thing for us. Coming off of DECLARATION 2 years ago, we had a pretty clear picture of the sound we wanted for this record. When we went in and wrote DEC-

this album. He literally took weight off Brian & I’s shoulders when it came to writing material. You guys have toured with everyone from AFI to H.I.M. to Cradle of Filth and Marilyn Manson, Do you guys ever feel out of place on a tour? Yeah, we do sometimes. From day one organically we started seeing a variety of people in the crowd at our shows. There were everything from fans of punk, goth, hardcore, andmetal. That just happened naturally. Even though it’s a challenge and sometimes it’s very unrewarding, we enjoy playing tours with diverse lineups. The way I see it if you en-

Is this the first time coming to play in McAllen, TX? We’ve never been able to make it out there. But, I do know we have fans from there because we meet kids from Mcallen everytime we go to San Antonio or Houston. We actually just met a bunch of kids recently from McAllen at a show we did in Monterrey, Mexico. A long time ago we had to cancel a show we scheduled there with Dimmu Borgir because we had a problem with our van, but this tour has a good vibe and everytime we’re in Texas, we feel it. A LOT.
PANTERA VULGAR DISPLAY OF POWER One of the most influential heavy metal albums of the 90s, Vulgar Display of Power is said to have played a major role in defining groove metal, slowing down the tempos and incorporating a harderedged vocal style. How long have you been practicing the art of DJing? We have been DJing for about 2 years now. How did you meet? We met when we were kids; we have been friends since then. What is it that inspires or motivates you? The people that listen to our music and sets. The fact that electronic dance music is liked by the masses and all over the world inspires us even more. Ultimately, it’s about seeing the bodies out on the dance floor. How did the show on 95.3 FM start and why should we tune in? The show started after we approached the radio station Xtrema 95.3FM with a brand new and fresh idea regarding music. They gave us their blessing from the start and we have continued to get more and more listeners with time. Having the show has helped in educating the masses about electronic dance music. This is the main reason why you should listen, so tune in and
stop missing out. We all know about the recent violence across our border cities in north Mexico. How has this affected your work as in regards to music if it has? Actually it has not affected us directly at all. If anything it affects the nightlife and clubs across the border. For example in Reynosa, people stop going out at night and fear for their safety. When can we see Javy Lemus and Raul Magallan play somewhere in the valley? Hopefully soon. We are working on some gigs as we speak so hopefully you will see us somewhere in the valley soon! What are the goals in 2010 for Javy Lemus and Raul Magallan? The goals are to keep working hard with our projects. In due time we know we can achieve our goals and keep creating new work and projects for ourselves. What is your ultimate dream in regards to the music industry?
Our ultimate dream is to become the most notable and well known duo in Mexico, as well as to get our tracks onto the top of the charts, into online retailers of electronic music, and without a doubt travel the world through our music.

How did you land the role of Freddy Krueger? The first time I heard about it was on the internet. Really? Yeah, I was just looking around. When I saw it I thought, “Whoa, I didn’t even know they were doing that.” My instant reaction was like, “Wow.......HEY!” I was just intrigued really because it is just such an incredibly iconic character.

It really was and is. What’s been going on in my life the last few weeks has been insanely surreal. I’m still reeling over getting to play such an iconic character in Rorshach (Watchmen). To be able to go and then play Freddy is just wow.
Yes, exactly I mean it just goes on for decades. People who aren’t even familiar with the movies know the name Freddy Krueger. I got in contact with my agent and he mentioned he had spoken to the guys
How do you handle all the Alan Moore/Watchmen fans? I’m a comic book fan as well so I kind of come from those sides also. And now you’ve just opened the flood MAGX •21 MAGX •21
gates to the horror fans. How do you handle all that fame now? It’s all just a thrill. I don’t know how to handle it all. I’ve been to ComicCon and Wonder-Con and I can’t tell you how wonderful, what a warm fuzzy it is. I can imagine. People respond just so well, it’s been incredible dude. Since you are the next Freddy Krueger, did you ask any advice of Robert Englund who was the original Freddy? Because there are a lot of purists who will always just love the originals. But we’ve seen the trailers, we’ve seen the clips this one is brutal. it’s more creepy it’s got a feel to it that the original’s didn’t have.
and who Robert has made him. Then really finding a way to pay homage to it as well as own it and make it my own. And in between all that finding ways to give it a familiar feel to it and bringing elements that the audience remember not just the sweater, the hat, and the glove but elements of the character itself. Did you get to keep any of the props? I didn’t and I kinda wished I would’ve been able to keep a glove. I always do that after I leave a movie, It’s like “ah shoot I should’ve...Why didn’t I keep a Rorshach head?” Now it’s like “darn, I really should’ve kept the glove.” Maybe I could still get at it. I’ve got to tell you man THE GLOVE IS AWESOME.
REALLY!? Is it heavy? Yeah! I mean these guys really designed the heck out of it. It is a bit heavy but it wasn’t so heavy that you couldn’t wield it. It was just perfect. It was really detailed and articulated. The thing was kinda pointy you could really hurt someone with it. So it wasn’t a blunt weapon it was actually sharpened? Well it was more pointy. I was at Wonder-Con and someone in the audience asked if I hurt anyone with it. My response was “No, luckily there were no accidents.” Then Kyle chimed in and said “Well, you kinda did get my stomach with that one move.” I didn’t even know that. So apparently I scratched Kyle.
I should’ve asked him if he took a picture. So you are pegged to do 2 more after this. Yes contractually, we are signed on to do 3 movies in total. But really it all boils down to how the first one did. Let’s let it come out and see how it goes. If there was one dream project that you could star or direct in what would it be? Ah man, it’s hard to say. I really have an answer for that but I just can’t talk about it right now. But it’s happening for me at this moment.

You know, I didn’t. Robert and I haven’t spoke. At one point we tried to meet but for that while I was just in the wrong space as far as time goes. But what I did do is go back and rewatch the first film, because I knew that is what we were paying homage to and re-envisioning and restarting. There are a few elements from some of the other films here and there, but to me it feels mostly like the first film. But I really do think that Sam wanted it to be darker and a bit more serious. My approach was just not to go in and do Robert. Nor did I want to go in and do what Robert didn’t do. It was just looking at the tone, the feel, remembering Freddy for who he is MAGX • 22

This month’s tip: POWER HOUR There are also a few things you should know when hooking up. Timing is everything. If you’re doing the club scene, You have to know what time it is. Here in Texas, bars close at 2 a.m., and last call is at 1:30 a.m. Power hour starts at about midnight. This is the time when women are most agreeable to inappropriate advances. There are some women to watch out for though. Watch out for the chick who labels herself a “kissing whore.” This is the woman who goes around the club kissing every guy after having two glasses of White Zinfandel. A fun thing to do is watch the guys that she kissed walk around the club looking for her thinking they’re going to get more than a kiss. Next Month: The 359 rule.
