Dearest Readers, Dreamers and Maharanis….

If you had told me when I was first starting Maharani Weddings that 13 years later I would be working with an incredible group of people assembling our 15th magazine, I would not have believed you. And yet, this winter we took a deep look at 2022- the trends, the couples, the vendors - it was exactly what I found myself doing. It is in those moments I realize that life really has a magical way of surprising you sometimes.

In 2023, we look forward to announcing that big weddings are B-A-C-K!!! Full of energy, excitement, and topped with loads of planning, bursting with details, and fabulous decor; engagements, sangeets, showers, ceremonies, and receptions are going to be better than ever. However, let’s keep in mind that better doesn’t always mean more opulent. After reflecting on our global experience, weddings will be more meaningful than ever, filled with more human connection, and catapulting us forward. Together. We are absolutely giddy with the results.

We interviewed hundreds of couples and vendors for the issue and landed on these eight. I love the number eight for many reasons. The number eight in many cultures is the luckiest number for health, wellness, and prosperity. I can’t think of anything more fitting for weddings more fitting for weddings.

We fell head over heels for Promiti and Kushen’s wedding and their image was a seamless choice for our gorgeous cover. We were equally as enchanted with the love story that is Rose and Manit. With communication, love, and patience we know this is one partnership that will stand the test of time. Finally, the bridal enthusiasm of Fizza is what truly makes our Maharani editorial dreams come true. On the heels of the birth of her first child, she was sending us additional images, emails filled with details, and never seemed to lose her bridal spirit. Big congratulations to Fizza on her new bundle of joy, and congratulations to all our couples in this issue.

Sometimes chemistry is undeniable, even when you meet through your finger tips. After months and months of dating, Manish planned Shaily, and any girls for that matter’s, dream proposal in Paris. Flights check! Hotel check! Ring check! Passports check! Well, even through the most meticulous planning, these two couldn’t get around Covid, so their proposal was moved to the Bethesda Terrace steps at Central Park and it was ever bit as magical as Paris!

After securing the venue, next up on the bridal planning bucket list was her wedding outfit. Shaily had envisioned a red bridal lengha for as long as she could remember, so her mother set off with her to India to find the perfect one. Trying on over 50 lenghas, she had a shade and style in mind and finally when she landed upon the beautiful piece they both got teary eyed.

A true blending of two families into one, the weeks before the wedding the families would get together to prepare snacks for the welcome bags and spend time together. This wedding was filled with unique moments for the couple to enjoy like personalized vows an intimate first look that the bride still replays in her mind.

As they say, it was a match made in heaven and we couldn’t agree more.

SANIYA & Santa Barbara,

When you just know, you just know. Saniya and Ankit’s love story was a long list of thoughtful gestures, shared hopes and dreams, long hours working, and just walking hand in hand. When it came time to propose, the groom’s plans to pop the question in NYC were sidelined by Covid. So a picnic turned into a proposal and the rest was history!

Although the couple lived in New Jersey, they decided to bring everyone together in the sunny state of California, where they had met and fell in love. Santa Barbara became a fast favorite and when they walked through the Hilton they knew they had found the perfect place.

For the wedding, the couple donned offwhite wedding ensembles to add a nod to their American and South Asian roots. They accented this white with classic Indian maroon, and that's how they landed on a rustic theme for the wedding day itself.

They set out to create a reception that was classy and grand, yet intimate enough for guests to bond and just have a good time. They landed on a 'classic Hollywood' inspired gold and black theme to dance the night away. Guests sipped on signature cocktails and enjoyed delicious nibbles. A truly magical soiree for everyone.

PROMITI & KRUSHEN

Birds of a feather flock together, so when these two were the only ones at a Halloween party without a costume naturally they gravitated towards one another. After a few chance meetings it wasn’t until they bumped into one another online they started dating. When the bride quit her job to pursue her dreams of starting a fashion line, she knew Krushen was the one through his unwavering support on her new path. They planned a special weekend for the families to meet, and Krushen proposed in front of everyone. It was truly a magical moment in time.

Brimming with ideas the bride enlisted planner extraordinaire, Ali Philips to handle their big day. The bride’s family is from Bengal while our groom’s is South Indian, so that left a lot of room for creativity. The bride had dreamt of a white wedding dress all her life, so she wore a classic jamdani saree for her haldi (Bangladesh's special handloom saree), a beautiful traditional red silk saree for the South Indian ceremony, and a mermaidstyle white dress for the main ceremony and reception. The couple showcased their many facets of their personalities through their one of a kind wedding.

The couple’s fondest memories from their wedding are from casual conversations catching up with old friends and their late night after party with hot dogs and pizza.

ROSE & Dedham,

After crossing paths in college it was during a game of ultimate frisbee that these two made an initial connection. A year of dating, cooking, baking, gardening and spending time together followed and quickly they both knew it was inevitable. After a favorite local hike, at sunset, Manit proposed and they officially became engaged..

Family and the good ole’ internet helped the couple along their planning journey. For the bridal lengha and white reception dress the groom’s parents accompanied the couple to Ahmedabad, India for shopping. The bride wanted something traditional for the ceremony and something with a modern, fusion flare for the reception. For the ceremony, they chose traditional Panetar colors to embrace the traditions of Manit's Gujarati heritage. Then they found a beautiful ivory silk and lace material to stitch a dress and matching dupatta for the reception. Once they arrived back home the bride brought the stitched reception dress to Dao Tailor and Custom Design in Waltham, MA for the final custom design work. Dao’s creativity and passion helped bring the couple’s vision to life.

A true celebration of two cultures, guests loved the combination of Indian and American traditions, from the various music genres played during the baraat to the traditional Indian and Italian dishes served during the reception. The wedding was filled with love, celebrating both cultures and experiencing something new for both sides of family and friends.

After a few months of adventurous dates, the couple was engaged and the wedding planning was underway. The bride’s favorite part of planning was incorporating their personalities into the details of their decor. A special dessert caterer, awesome DJ and very special first dance blew guests away. All in all it was a beautiful wedding week.

Fate works in mysterious ways, and we couldn’t be happier for the lovely couple.

These love birds are actually snow birds and their first official date was on a group trip to Colorado where Mit spent the days teaching Priya to ski. It was during many falls, cold fingers and hot cocoas they realized they were meant for one another.

An adventurous couple, they decided on a destination wedding because they wanted something unique and a wedding most people had never experienced before. Kicking off the wedding with a bang, they had a poolside welcome party the very first evening. A stage was built over the pool for the couple to sit on and guests were amazed. The decor continued to stun guests throughout the wedding functions. The bride’s favorite part of the decor was the ceremony mandap. A mirror and flower concept came together with a clear stage and aisle so she could see the sand and flowers under the stage as she walked across it. Talk about a wow factor!

An award show themed reception followed in the ballroom. Brimming with Hollywood worthy details they had a red carpet entry for guests, photo backdrop wall, and even a champagne lady walking around with 80 champagne flutes in her dress! The couple also gave out different awards such as best dressed and best comedian! The guests were completely enchanted by this totally unique reception experience.

First dates are often awkward, but after their second date, Anjali came home and texted a few friends saying she had just met the man she was going to marry.

Fast forward to everyone’s favorite month, March 2020, and Anjali and Charlie decided to stop dating long distance and the bride headed west to move in with Charlie. Charlie had concocted a few scenarios involving both sets of families to both being there for a surprise proposal, but those were not possible because of the pandemic. On New Years Eve of 2020, Anjali walked downstairs to a decorated living room where Charlie got down on one knee. Obviously, the bride said yes and it was a terrific start to the New Year.

After choosing stunning Vail, Colorado as their dream location, the couple’s mountain wedding started to take shape. The bride had her heart set on an ivory dress with colorful accents and Kynah created a custom piece for her.

Anjali and Charlie wanted to have a true celebration that ensured guests enjoyed themselves so thoughtful moments were infused throughout. The couple vividly remembers the all couples slow dance to kick off the reception. While Stevie Wonder's "I Just Called to Say I Love You" played, couples of all ages joined the bride and groom on the dance floor.

Do you believe in love at first sight? Well, sometimes it really does seem like cupid plays a hand in love. After a chance meeting in February 2013 Fizza and Mohib would later confess that they knew it was kismet.

After three attempts at a pandemic proposal went sideways, the couple was engaged and the bride's moment had finally come! Since she was in high school, Fizza had a "wedding" Pinterest she would work on and had collected ideas for over 10 years. She was able to draw inspiration from all those old pins and craft a wedding that blended all sides of their personalities. From decor, to outfits, to makeup she had truly been planning for her wedding day all her life!

After a small nikkah wedding ceremony during COVID, the couple decided to have their Sangeet & Reception a year later at the MGM. Creatively, they called their weekend of dancing and celebration their “anniversary reception.” It was a way to commemorate with the friends and family that couldn’t be included in the Nikkah.

The couple’s best friend, Arielle Katcher, sang their favorite song "Can't Help Falling In Love With You" by Elvis Presley during their first dance and magic filled the ballroom. The couple still gets goosebumps whenever they think about it.
