Dear Loyal Readers,

I can’t believe that Maharani Weddings began 13 years ago. From a humble start on my kitchen table…. to remote teams across the globe working in unison. We have climbed quite a mountain together and we are ready to climb to the next higher peak.

We have amassed a community of thousands of readers and vendors, creating lifelong mentors, partners, and friends. We have lived through viruses, pandemics, supply chain issues, brinks of world war, and had a stroke of luck or two along the way. Historically the number 13 is unlucky, but we only see this year as filled with opportunities, bursting with style, and covered in love.

Looking forward to the rest of this year, I thought I would share some lessons I have learned en voyage…

• Butterflies are unable to see their wings, and don’t know how truly beautiful they are.

• When traveling, always pack a swimsuit.

• All alternatives to champagne are a waste of time.

• A solid blow out and some mascara will solve a lot of problems.

• Close self view on Zoom, and you will spend more time listening and less time analyzing yourself.

• Long walks are the best form of self-care

• Work hard and be incredibly patient.

• Set your own priorities and protect them with boundaries.

• Own an LBD or two or three!

• Always carry a pen, protein bar, and a phone charger.

• Finally, remember that manners will always get your further than a platinum card.

I hope that you relish every moment of this Destination Magazine. Our team had a new level of post pandemic pep in their steps as we interviewed couples, scrolled through submissions, and fell in love with images.

AALIYA & ROHIT

After meeting at a dance audition, this artistic couple soon became inseparable. Naturally for the proposal, Rohit asked Aaliya to marry him during a final dance by showing up on stage. She said yes, and the crowd roared!

This dynamic couple had two weddings, and a vision for each. As a Bangali bride, Aaliya has only seen herself in the mandap wearing a saree. Luckily, she was marrying a Maharashtrian man because Marathis also wear sarees in the mandap. For the New Jersey wedding, she chose a traditional green Paithani Saree, and for the Arizona wedding, she donned a traditional Sindoor-colored Banarsi silk saree. She looked magnificent in each.

After being postponed twice, the couple was elated to have their celebrations finally become a reality. Guests enjoyed the dances (obviously!) and the handmade decor items by the bride’s father and community of aunties. It was truly a heartwarming wedding that celebrated culture, family, and love.

After meeting on a dance floor at a wedding, Naina and Yakshu knew there was something special about their connection. The couple began dating when the groom was living in Shanghi and the bride in Los Angeles. Phone calls, Facetime, Whatsapp, and many flights later, the couple both landed in the Bay Area and finally had a chance to live life side by side. That 0.1 percent chance of making it work seemed to be working.

Fast forward to 2018, and the couple was engaged in a beautiful ceremony that involved all their loved ones. The couple set out to plan a destination wedding in Thailand, which was postponed three times because of Covid before they changed location to lovely San Diego, CA. This bride is a true fashionista at heart. When asked her favorite part of wedding planning, her answer was an immediate and enthusiastic, “The shopping.” After a few weeks in India, focusing on all the elements and creativity of the wedding, she completely immersed herself in fun with her family. What a joyous experience!

From the custom cocktail lounge to the fusion tabla player, guests were constantly wowed. Naina and Yakshu’s wedding is a true inspiration to us all and a good reminder that the universe always has a way of making things work if and when the time is right.

These high school sweethearts didn’t become officially an item until post graduation, but after growing up and a bit of adulting together, they knew they were each other’s one and only. After college, and setting up their life together, Nidhi found herself walking the grounds of their first date - the local zoo. As they walked through the botanical gardens, James bent down on one knee and the rest was history.

Due to Covid, the engagement was prolonged. But, that didn’t stop the bride and her sister from Pinteresting their hearts away. The bride's sister, Harita, played a huge role in the planning process. As a wedding calligrapher running Hartsy Designs, the bride's sister made the invitations, signage, and many of the decor accents. What a fabulous sister! Once the ladies came up with a color scheme, they decided on a modern romantic French theme.

The bride loved her team of vendors and still gets goosebumps every time she sees images from the day. Guests loved the dessert buffet and the custom beer cart at the reception.

Atlanta, Georgia

Leading strikingly parallel lives for years before they actually met; attending high school and college within minutes of one another, it wasn’t until these two were living in the busy city of Manhattan that they had their chance encounter! They clicked, fell in love, and planned a wedding. After a surprise proposal in Central Park, steps away from the place they first met, a ring and two words set them off and running. It was quickly decided the nuptials would be in Atlanta, so they set out to craft a completely unique experience for their guests.

They planned a very traditional Tamil wedding ceremony, as that has been the tradition in both of their families for generations. The outdoor ceremony was on a covered pavilion that was dressed up so the 700 guests felt transported back to Sri Lanka. They even had a Tamil wedding lunch served on banana leaves! A modern, chic Sangeet left guests speechless. Guests were treated to an evening filled with fantastic fun street food, including custom designed food carts serving traditional South Indian and Sri Lankan food. The highlight was the couple’s surprise entrance on a helicopter. The following evening, they turned to the historic landmark, The Fox Theater, for their reception. Filled with timeless details and elegant touches, the couple choose white orchids and flowers to fill the room along with crystals shimmering on the stage. Truly a beautiful night celebrating love!

Now, if you love engagement stories, you are going to love the story of Nisha and Rishi’s engagement.

Nisha and Rishi met and dated during Covid. Rishi had always envisioned proposing on a romantic getaway but there is nothing like a required PCR test to ruin a surprise! Instead, our groom woke up his future bride early on a random Wednesday morning, and drove around the Hamptons. A location near and dear to their hearts as they had spent most of quarantine there. While the cats were away the mice played. An amazing team of planners and chefs completely transformed the couple’s house. Filling it with white roses and candles, softly playing romantic music, and incredible food prepared by the bride's favorite chef, Chef Anand. The groom popped the question, and during an 8-course around the world private dinner, they FaceTimed their loved ones. It was truly the most magical night. The romantic proposal did not stop there. In the morning, they hopped on a plane to Turks and Caicos for an "engagementmoon" to cap off an epic proposal! All we can say is wow!

With nine events and 18 outfit changes, this was a very full production wedding. The bride’s mom and planner, Jo Ann Grant of Apropos Creations, took the lead and created a spectacular celebration of love. As a dancer, the Sangeet was an extra special night for the bride, and it was a magical evening of dances, skits, and performances.

Their magical journey began at a wedding, when the bride had invited Laura with the secret intention to connect her with her future groom, Bobby. Shortly after the wedding, they met for lunch, and booked last minute flights to Phoenix. Thus, their romance began. Fast forward to the proposal, if you are looking for the perfect place to begin your happily ever after, you always turn to The Happiest Place on Earth. And that is just what this groom did... The couple spent the weekend at Disneyland and stayed at the Grand Californian Hotel. And, the master plan started to unfold.

Upon arriving at the hotel, they were greeted by a special concierge who walked them up to a private area. They had an amazing suite overlooking Disney California Adventure and dinner plans, including a quick trip into Disneyland Park. At the time of the proposal, they still had their Disneyland season passes, making it easy to enter the parks as the couple pleased. The groom had made special reservations at the Blue Bayou restaurant. The famous dining spot inside the Pirated of the Caribbean ride.

After dinner, as they were walking down the hallway and back to the room, the bride heard the faintest sound of their favorite song playing somewhere behind the walls. As they got closer to the room, she heard their song playing from the room! The moment Laura opened the door, pink streamers and balloons were hanging from the ceiling and covering the floor. In the corner were unicorn decorated pink cupcakes, a bottle of her favorite Rosé, and the flashes of a camera catching every single moment. She was confused until she turned around and there was Bobby on one knee and the most incredible ring she'd ever seen in his hands...of course she said yes.

Blending elements of their personalities and cultures, they pulled off a beautifully romantic wedding in Lake Tahoe. Congratulations to the lovely couple!

When we interviewed this couple, we knew right away that this was a match made in heaven. The bride fell in love with his giggle, and he fell in love with everything about her.

Fast forward to the proposal, and we might add Gurdeep gets an A plus for planning. With the backdrop of the Niagra Falls, there was no detail that was overlooked. Under the gise of a photoshoot, the bride was perfectly manicured for the outing, but little did she know there were secret signals between the photographer and the groom for the proposal. A few mascara stained tears later, we have the images to prove that it was a beautiful start to forever for these lovebirds.

Planning a wedding is tough, especially an Indian wedding. But when you have five events and five outfits to plan, that really launches you into the major leagues. With class and organization, Rachel navigated planning an Indian wedding that was traditional in aspects, paying homage to Gurdeep’s culture, while also making it her own.

Living out her childhood fantasy and saying yes to the perfect reception dress, Rachel found a gorgeous piece that was made just for her. Her bridal lenghas were more of a challenge, but staying true to herself, she went for powder blue and we can all agree she was simply stunning.
