Alaska quake prompts tsunami alert Washington: A powerful earthquake measuring 7.9 on the Richter scale struck the Gulf of Alaska in the US on Tuesday, prompting a tsunami warning along the coastline that urged people in the affected areas to head to higher ground. The earthquake had previously been measured at magnitude 8.2. It hit 300 km southeast of Kodiak at a depth of 10 km at 12.21 am, the US Geological Survey said.

PATAN AFZAL BABU Hyderabad: Ahead of 2019 elections, the TRS government's fullyear budget for 2018-19, which would be its last in its five-year term, is likely to be more populist in nature. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has decided to have a record outlay of `1.8 lakh cr with focus on welfare schemes. Even if the elections are held latest by mid-2019, the budget for 2019-20 would not be a fullyear budget. It would only be a vote-on-account one. "The budget for 2018-19 would be a cent per cent welfare budget. It would be a "please all and hurt none budget," a senior o�cial told The Hans India.
Apparently, eyeing all sections of the people in the next elections, the Chief Minister is busy finalizing liberal allocations in the budget for BCs, SCs, STs and minorities. He has been holding a series of meetings with select group of o�cials to for ideas to dish out of more welfare schemes to win to his side the economically backward families among the forward castes. Top o�cials said that KCR is according top priority to the welfare of all communities by earmarking substantial funds. New Delhi: The Income Tax Department on Tuesday cautioned people against indulging in illegal cash transactions, including donating more than Rs 2000 to political parties. In a bid to clean up election funding, the government early this year had notified 'electoral
bonds' that can be bought from specified branches of the SBI and used to donate money to political parties. According to the scheme, no person should make a cash donation of over Rs 2000 to a political party. The tax department, in advertisements issued in leading
dailies on Tuesday, said a person should not "donate in excess of Rs 2000 in cash to a registered trust/political party." This is the first public advisory that the department or its policy-making body-- the CBDT has issued vis-a-vis political donations.

KTR meets Naidu, Ambani at WEF OUR BUREAU Hyderabad: Telangana IT, Industries and Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao on Tuesday met several business leaders, including Reliance Company Chairman Mukesh Ambani on the first day of the World Economic Forum at Davos in Switzerland.
