ستجري المسابقة خالل شهر شباط/فبراير ،2016 وسيتم اإلعالن عن الفائز مع تقرير خاص حول المسابقة في عدد قادم من موالح.
Mr Gay Syria As the name suggests, it is a competition aimed at selecting a Syrian delegate for Mr Gay World (MGW) competition. MGS competition will take place in Istanbul in February 2016.
Why now? The Syrian LGBTIQ community has suffered for decades in the country even before the current war. Before 2011, the year that marked the start of the nonviolent demonstrations, LGBTIQ Syrians had suffered from different kinds of human rights violations. The Syrian penal code criminalises homosexuality and does not acknowledge the rights of Trans and Intersex individuals. However, nobody paid attention to those violations despite several attempts by Syrian LGBTIQ bloggers to expose them, and that remained to be the case until Daesh, (ISIS, ISIL, or IS) started publishing videos documenting its gay killings in Syria and Iraq. Moreover, Syria has become the largest source country of refugees, replacing Afghanistan since mid-2014. With the huge influx of refugees arriving at Europe’s coastlines and borders, several countries suspended their resettlement programs for Syrians, and started creating stricter laws to prevent people from acquiring the refugee status in Europe. In the midst of all that, the news about Syrian LGBTQI people has become limited to the dead bodies in Daesh’s videos. Sadly, people
watch those videos and never think about what is happening to the survivors. Yet, some might just frown upon the idea and ask “why now?” Mawaleh’s message was to make LGBTQI Syrians’ voices heard. By organising this competition, we are trying to bring attention to the Syrian LGBTQI dilemma and create different possibilities to advocate for the cause. LGBTIQ Syrians are displaced in the neighbouring countries. In Lebanon, Jordan, and Egypt, the law is used to persecute LGBTIQ people. In Turkey, there are no laws to provide protection to LGBTIQ people. The situation is becoming worse especially after the breakdown on Istanbul Pride in 2015. MGW is a great platform to establish another way of communication with other LGBTIQ communities and organisations. It will also help us sending out our message of love, hope, and defiance in the gayest and most creative way under the current circumstances. There will be a lot of hurdles and issues to deal with, such as the visas and passport renewals, but will deal with that one step at the time, and we hope that we will make it.

الهدف من المسابقة اآلن لم يحظ مجتمع الـ LGBTIQالسوري بأي نوع الالجئين في أوروبا ،مما دعا دوال ً كثيرة إلى وقف من االعتراف المجتمعي أو القانوني منذ نشوء العمل ببرامج إعادة التوطين ،وزيادة صعوبة الدولة السورية الحديثة ،وبدءا ً من عام ،2012بدأ الحصول على صفة الجئ للكثيرين. الوضع بالتدهور أكثر فأكثر خاصة مع اندالع الحرب في سوريا ،ودخول داعش وجبهة النصرة إلى أصبحت سوريا هي المصدر األول لالجئين في البالد ،ليصبح أفراد مجتمع الـ LGBTIQالسوري بين العالم منذ منتصف عام ،2014ونتيجة للتحوالت مطرقة قانون النظام وسندان الحركات اإلسالمية السياسية األخيرة تجاه قضايا اللجوء ،أصبح من الهام المختلفة ،وأصبح المثليون السوريون في ذهن أن تحكى قصة الالجئين الـ LGBTIQالسوريين المتلقي جثثا ً في فيديوهات يصدرها تنظيم بطريقة مختلفة تسعى إلى تنبيه العالم إلى داعش ،من دون أي حديث عن حقوق الناجين خطورة الوضع الحالي عليهم وعلى حيواتهم. من لظى الحرب في الحصول على خدمات أو مساعدات كبقية السوريين المتضررين من يمكن القول أن المشاركة في مسابقة Mr Gay Worldأصبحت بمثابة تحدٍ لجميع من يريد الحرب ومن استهداف جميع األطراف لهم. تهميش تلك الحقوق وتأجيل مناقشة قضايا في عام ،2014قامت موالح باالتصال بلجنة مسابقة الالجئين الـ LGBTIQالسوريين. ،Mr Gay Worldواختار شخصا ً للمشاركة في المسابقة العالمية ،لكن ظروفا ً خاصة اضطرت إن هدف موالح الدائم هو إيصال صوت الـ المشترك السوري إلى التأخر في التقدم بطلب تأشيرة LGBTIQالسوريين للعالم ،وستكون منصة مسابقة هي المكان األمثل لجذب األنظار إلى الدخول «الفيزا» ،مما منعه من المشاركة فيها. قضيتنا بطريقة مختلفة تحمل إبداعا ً وجرأة كان الغرض وقتئذ من المشاركة هو لفت األنظار وتحدياً ،كما ستساعدنا على خلق طرق جديدة إلى قضايا الـ السوريين ،ومحاولة الوصول للدفاع عن قضايانا وقضايا الالجئين إجماالً. لطريقة للقيام بحملة تحث الحكومات على تخصيص حصة للـ LGBTIQالسوريين ضمن ستواجهنا العديد من العقبات ،كما واجهتنا من قبل ،لكننا سنتعامل معها ونتجاوزها ،لنتمكن برامج إعادة التوطين الخاصة بها. لكن أمورا ً كثيرة تغيرت بعد ما أصبح يعرف بأزمة من الوصول إلى هدفنا.
MGS News The competition was announced on Mawaleh’s website and Facebook page last year. We published an online form for people to register for the competition. Several issues held us back and forced us to postpone the competition several times. One of our main concerns is the safety of the delegates and the people who are involved in organising the competition. As it is impossible to hold the competition in Syria, Istanbul became the perfect place to host MGS competition. However, Daesh (ISIL) can still arrange for attacks and assassinations in Turkey and it assassinated Syrian journalists in south Turkey and succeeded at carrying several deadly terrorist attacks in the country. In December 2015, Ayman Menem and Mahmoud Hassino conducted initial interviews with the delegates who registered their name in the online form. Six delegates will participate in MGS. The jury consists of five members. Bradley Secker, a British photojournalist, will be in the jury. Bradley provided Mawaleh with the photos of the competition that we published in this issue.
The Mr Gay World Competition is a Twenty First Century public performance where the delegates represent their nation as the best spokesperson and embody the spirit of their nation. أخبار المسابقة قامت موالح باإلعالن عن فكرة المسابقة منذ العام الفائت، لكن الظروف السياسية باإلضافة إلى العوائق المالية اضطرت الفريق إلى تأجيل المسابقة عدة مرات. في كانون األول/ديسمبر الفائت ،قام أيمن منعم ومحمود حسينو بإجراء مقابالت أولية مع األشخاص الذين أعلنوا عن رغبتهم بالمشاركة في المسابقة التي ستتم إقامتها الحقا ً في شهر شباط الحالي. ستتألف لجنة الحكم من خمسة أشخاص ،سيكون بينهم برادلي سكر ،الصحفي والمصور البريطاني الذي استضافته موالح سابقاً ،والذي قام بإهدائنا جميع الصور التي يحتويها هذا العدد الخاص.
مسابقة Mr Gay Worldأو MGWهي مسابقة دولية تقام كل عام ،يتنافس فيها الفائزون باأللقاب المحلية في دولهم على لقب ،Mr Gay Worldوالذي سيمثل قضايا المثليين لمدة عام كامل .من أهم شروط المسابقة النجاح في اختبار مكتوب حول تاريخ الحراك المثلي حول العالم وأهم األخبار المتعلقة بالميول الجنسية المثلية والهوية الجندرية غير التقليدية .يقول القائمون على المسابقة« ،هذه المسابقة هي حراك ونشاط مثلي يدافع عن قضايا المثلية الجنسية وحقوق المثليين حول العالم ،ولذلك يكون حامل اللقب قد تحول إلى ناشط في حقوق المثلية طيلة مدة احتفاظه باللقب». جوائز المسابقة تشمل: Mr Gay World Mr Congeniality Mr Photogenic Best in Sport Best in Interview Best in Swimwear Best in Written Exam
ستجري المسابقة هذا العام في مالطا بين 19و 23نيسان ،وسيشارك فيها .Mr Gay Syria
What happens next? After finding Mr Gay Syria 2016, we will have to work with him on his appearance, stage performance, talent, etc. We will also have to take care of the delegate’s Schengen visa, plane ticket, and several other MGW requirements. We need to raise money for that, and a fundraising video will be published soon. Considering all risk factors, the video will contain limited information about the date and the venue. It will not show any of the candidates and won’t reveal personal information about anyone. In addition to the competition, a documentary is being filmed around the competition to depict the lives of LGBTIQ Syrians. The film is an international production between Turkey, France, and Germany and directed by Ayse Toprak. We are hoping that MGS and the film can help creating a group or a small organisation that can take care of young Syrian LGBTIQ talents. However, this hope requires that we succeed at getting Mr Gay Syria to Malta and that he will be able to voice out all what LGBTIQ Syrians need to tell the world. We are hope we will get there.
ماذا سنفعل بعد ذلك؟
بعد انتخاب حامل اللقب ،ستقوم اللجنة المنظمة للمسابقة بإعداده للمشاركة في المسابقة الدولية ،كما ستقوم اللجنة المنظمة باالتصال بالجهات الرسمية لالستحصال على تأشيرة دخول إلى أوروبا «شنغن» لحامل اللقب ،وسننشر فيديو خاص الستقبال تبرعات لتغطية نفقات المسابقة وتذاكر السفر وغيرها من النفقات. تجدر اإلشارة إلى أننا قمنا بتقييم المخاطر التي قد تهدد أمن وسالمة المشاركين ،مما جعلنا نضطر إلى عدم اإلعالن عن موعد المسابقة وعدم نشر الفيديو الخاص باستقبال التبرعات قبل المسابقة. باإلضافة لمسابقة ،Mr Gay Syriaيجري حاليا ً تصوير فيلم من إخراج عائشة توبراك حول المسابقة وما سيحدث بعدها، وسنغتنم فرصة المسابقة الدولية لتوجيه األنظار نحو قضية الالجئين السوريين الـ LGBTومعاناتهم في دول الجوار السوري ،كما سنحاول لفت األنظار إلى معاناة مجتمع الـ LGBTالسوري في الداخل واستهدافه من كافة األطراف. قد تتحول فكرة المسابقة إلى مسابقة سنوية ،وسنحاول أيضا ً إنشاء مجموعة أو منظمة فنية هدفها االعتناء بمواهب الـ LGBTالسوريين بشكل خاص. جميع أفكارنا حول المستقبل تعتمد على نجاح المسابقة ونجاح حامل اللقب في إيصال أصوات مجتمع الـ LGBT السوري في المسابقة الدولية.
