Term 3 Week 3 12th August 2016 Issue No. 24

From the Principal Mission Week

The term is into full swing and there is much to be in prayer for over the next week. We would value your prayer for the following:

Our Year 10 and 11 students will be heading out to serve in many different places over the next week:

Year 12

▪▪Northern Territory – this team will be leaving today and flying to Darwin tonight. On Saturday they head to the remote Woolaning Homeland Christian College on the edge of Litchfield National Park. Here they will serve and fellowship with the indigenous students who live at the school. They will be sharing cross-culturally in classes, through music, drama, sport and by living in community.

Trial HSC exams started on Thursday this week and will continue for all of next week. Industrial Technology Major Works were handed in this week after many months of hard work. Students working on Art, Drama and Music Major works are also coming close to due dates. Please pray for our Year 12 students that they will have a great recall of their work and will be able to perform at their best in their exams, assessments and performances.

▪▪Hike – this team will leave on Monday morning and work their way from the Page 1

Out and About

Wollongong Lighthouse to the Sydney Opera House. As well as exploring God’s creation and working together in a team, they will be raising funds for two charities. If you’d like to get behind them, then follow this link http://bit.ly/2aMgmFU

Our sporting teams continue to excel as they represent the school at Zone and State level. Well done to the Primary Metro Cup teams who travelled to Sydney on Thursday to represent the Northern Hunter in the CSSA State Metro Cup. They played some great games against much larger schools and displayed courage, teamwork and passion with some very good wins as well.

▪▪ Local Ministry – a team of students will be serving our local community in a practical, hands-on manner. This will involve a variety of tasks and contexts as they connect with areas of need and encourage people in a variety of different situations.

With the High School Zone Basketball Gala Day on today and the Primary State Athletics coming up next Friday, it is encouraging to see our students do so well. A special vote of thanks for staff who have put the extra work into these teams and also the early morning starts with the travel involved.

▪▪ Sydney Street Ministry – in conjunction with the Salvation Army, this team will be serving and working with the homeless communities in inner Sydney. They leave on Wednesday and will be in Sydney until Saturday morning. This is a powerful time of learning and serving for our students.

God is With His People I’ve enjoyed reading through Isaiah recently and to see God’s assurance of His faithfulness, even in difficult times. God reminded the children of Israel of the following in Isaiah 41:9, 10.

▪▪ Solomon Islands – this team will be leaving on Tuesday to fly to the Solomon Islands. They will catch a boat to Malaita and then take a truck across the island to visit the more remote village of Nafinua and to serve the school and village community there. They will return on Tuesday of the following week after also visiting the Burns Creek community near Honiara and serving that school community as well.

“You are my servant, I have chosen you and not cast you off; fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” As children of the Most High God, we too can rest in the assurance that He is with us, strengthening us and upholding us by His power. May you rest in that today and as you serve Him in the week ahead.

We would value your prayers over this week, for safe travel, for student health and for teams to work together in service of others in the community. Please also pray that they will learn much about God, His world and His love for them as they serve others.

Blessings Geoff Peet Page 2

Masterclass “Masterclass” is a day specifically for school leaders in Christian schools, designed to engage and challenge them on how to lead and use their gifts for God. It aims to equip students by providing a day of quality input that will invest in their

personal development and better prepare them to be spiritual leaders of their school and local community. Many of our Year 10 and 11 students participated in this event last Thursday, 4th August.

Practical Science In their Science lessons this week, Year 10 have begun a Physics unit on motion. Students enjoyed participating in a driving simulation to check their reaction times in applying the brakes. Students gathered data of their reaction time, while there were distractions around them. They were then asked to send a text message while ‘driving’. Many good discussions were had about how a small distraction can affect their reaction time and what the consequences of that could be.

Year 6 were making balloon rockets in science yesterday. They were investigating properties of air (it is stuff, it has volume and it can be compressed). Page 3

The following primary students will be progressing to the State finals at Blacktown on Friday, 19th August: Oliver B. 200 metres (2nd), 400 metres (1st) 12 yrs boys age champion.

As part of the Fresh for Kids campaign, students who purchase a piece of fresh fruit or order a lunch menu item containing vegetables (eg salad sandwich, hamburger, etc) from the canteen over the next 5 weeks are rewarded with an entry card, which has space for two (2) stickers.
