n the 19th August, Siljan the Stork will fly away alongside his comrades, cutting across the black and the white sea. Siljan, the stark Stork in one of the most fascinating Macedonian traditional stories of our time keeps on enduring the passage of time. So, how should we continue nourishing this heritance? Well, we just keep on reading the story, telling it over and over again or we keep on listening, completely mesmerized by it… So, let’s roll up our sleeves! On the 20th August, MakeDox will welcome its 7th edition and open its gates for any story, from anywhere… ‘Cause as you know-#WeAreAllAStory!

JURIES AT
Onion Award Jury “My story is about growing up under the racist apartheid system in South Africa and deciding to leave when I was 22 years old because I refused to go to war to keep the system going. Fleeing the country led me to many other places and getting to know people and cultures that I am sure, I wouldn’t have otherwise. This opened my mind to the world but with a strong desire to see social justice succeed. I returned 21 years later.” Don Edkins, a producer from South Africa and founder of the organization “Steps” that connects contemporary documentary films and filmmakers “To be honest I had no interest in documentary films at the age of 16. I had interest in horses, fiction films but not necessarily documentary films. They came much later when I was a journalist. Documentary films came to me a little bit as an accident… But I must say I fell in love with them immediately.” Leena Pasanen, born in Finland, current festival director of the International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film. A former EDN director and Yle Finnish Broadcasting Company commissioning editor
from Croatia
”I was lucky to be found by other talented and creative minds whose passion lurked me into this world, believing that I, too, could be part of it with my skillfulness and creativity.” Vladimir Gojun, a film editor
Young Onion Award Jury “A white kid growing up in apartheid South Africa and finding a totally new world when coming to Italy at 15. The story continues with my meeting Jean Rouch and falling for documentaries and I think I’m really lucky: what more can a person want when his passion becomes his job?” Stefano Tealdi, a producer and director from Italy. He runs the Stefilm production house. Stefano is also founder of the association Documentary In Europe and of Torino film lab.

Together we'll create the story of the Tangram, consisting seven parts. In the intimate atmosphere of Kurshumli An and the lively surrounding of the Youth Cultural Centre, we'll witness the seventh wonder that will remain a mystery just like the Seven Towers of Constantinopole. Since the beginning of our time, in all popular cultures , the number seven refers to myriad of connotations. All of them are inspiring,

Onion Seed Award Jury I was born in Štip in 1988 where I finished my elementary and secondary education. thought-provoking and supportive. MakeDox will try to do its best to support these qualities. The seven cosmic and human principles. The number of Athens and Apollo. The number of wisdom and clemency. Seven is Poseidon's number who threats with earthquakes and teaches Odesius a lesson, telling us the most magnificent story. It's been said that seven is the number of manifestation and realization of karma. It is one of the sacred numbers of the Pitagoreans. Whether we rely to these things or not, we'll stick to the ancient classification thus listen to stories by seven different personas. With a little help of the seventh art, triggered by the seven classical disciplines. The seventh edition of the International Creative Documentary Film Festival-MakeDox will be held from the 20th-26th August, 2016. It will last for seven days in the extraordinary place of Kurshumli An and the lively Youth Cultural Centre. The seventh edition of MakeDox is sheltered by the seven ancient Japanese gods of good fortune! The seventh day of the Chinese New Year is known as "The Day of the People" so understandably, we'll praise anyone's story for WE ARE ALL A STORY! MAKEDOX 2016 Natasha Petrovik, theatre and film actres
“My world was given to me by artistic souls. When you are surrounded by such people, the paintbrushes jump right into your hands without asking and before you even start to realize, the urge within you has found a creative way to come up to the surface. In my teens and well after that I drew on everything, from napkins to the walls of my hometown Skopje. During my secondary art studies, I found both my kind of people and my style so those years were quite careless for me. I have also attended art colonies and improved my artistic expression. At the Faculty of Fine Arts, I took my vocation more seriously while also discovering the universe of graphic design. Ever since then, nothing can stop me from doing what it takes to ensconce my soul.” Voskresija Andreevska, painter and graphic designer “The first thing that comes to my mind when I hear the word ‘story’ is my grandfather – I was lucky to be able to set foot into the world of oral literature well before I learned to read. When I would bore him with demands for more new stories, he would say: “Stories shouldn’t be told by day. If I do, I will drop my trousers and pants when walking on the
street.” Many years later, I became a storyteller myself. All the words and images in my stories are nothing but a semi-successful attempt to conceal my nakedness. As the storyteller always denudes himself, even when it seems that the story got him covered.” Ivan Shopov, writer and animation scriptwriter, editor at the publishing house “Templum” and the portal “Okno”

the world to be better particularly for the children.” Katri Merikallio, Finnish journalist writer and activist for children’s wellbeing “As a young adult, I left my comfort zone in Germany to explore other countries and cultures, ending up in Southern Africa. Living in rural communities, getting involved in people’s lives, learning the local language allowed me to gain a very different perspective to the world I grew up with. Forty years later, I am still here - working as a media educationalist with community groups and civil society organizations throughout the region using documentary film as a tool for action learning and social change.” Marianne Gysae, media educationalist from Germany. She has been involved in media for development projects in Southern Africa for more than 20 years, writing, producing and using print media and film.

I had a wonderful time at MakeDox. The atmosphere, the amiable hosts and the outdoor screenings were truly amazing! Along with the great film selection and the interesting discussions under the Fig Tree, this is by far the best festival I've visited this year. Agneta Moren, artistic director of the Tempo Film Festival MakeDox venue left me speechless. The whole idea about the festival, its atmosphere, film selection and the audience are just wonderful! If only I could wake up every day at Kurshumli an! Kristina Lelovac, an actress and assistant at the Faculty for Dramatic Arts in Skopje In my opinion, this is the best festival in the world. I'm thrilled! Just a minute ago, one of the jury members suggested an award for the festival itself. The program is fantastic, the hosts are hospitable and really kind and friendly... Trust my word- I've never seen anything like it! Natasha Senjanovikj

STORYTELLERS TO STORYTELLERS For this year’s MakeDox, Iika Vehkalahti from Finland constructed and designed a series
Date: 22-25 August 2015 Venue: Chifte Hammam Time: 15:00 - 17:00
of masterclasses – cut, attached and edited stories – by his own dramaturgical recipe. One story for each festival day. The masterclasses are open to all interested storytellers, especially to film directors and film students.
Experience, values, ways films seduce, mistakes, choices and ways of film watching are the so-called filming-related sins that he will delve into together with the film directors Magnus Gertten (Sweden), Petra Seliškar (Slovenia), Claudia Tosi (Italy), Don Edkins (South Africa), Leena Pasanen (Finland), Stefano Tealdi (Italy), Tatjana Soboleva (Russia) and Andreas Johnsen (Denmark). They will all take us into their own worlds of filmmaking and film production by bringing closer their latest film story selected for this year’s MakeDox festival program. Who is Iika Vehkalahti? - Iikka is an Executive Producer of “Dare to Dream Asia” and of “Rough Cut Service”, an association that gives on-line support to challenging and creative documentary films in the final stage of production. His own company IV Films is producing and tutoring documentary films. He has also worked as Yle Finnish Broadcasting Company commissioning editor. Recently he received the Doc Mogul Award, which is given to an individual who, over the course of his or her career, has made an They fly over mountaintops but need essential contribution to the creative vitality of the documentary industry.
no wings. They cross borders but need no passport. They cheer us up, teach us, give us hope, disturb us. But most importantly, they stay with us. Because there is always someone to tell them and someone to hear them, one person to document them and another one to convey them… and so the stories live.
Iikka’s story What does storytelling mean to you? - My father, he was a great storyteller. He was so great that his neighbors used to bring him a bottle of brandy just to hear his stories. Even if it were the one about how he shot two moose with one shot of the rifle… And today, my art of dramaturgy is significantly based on how my father told stories. How did the creative documentary become part of your story?
- As a young boy, I saw many TV documentaries from Brazil, Latin America and really great films like “The Smiling Man”. I have always dreamed of becoming a writer; being from a poor family, I always thought that filmmaking was for the rich people only. Then as a student, during the time of mind revolutions, I got the possibility to direct my first two docs and then “Steps by Steps”… (by the way this is the title of the book I wrote with Don Edkins). Have you heard any stories about Skopje so far? What do you expect to hear, see, feel? - Should I Google ? No. Not real stories about Skopje. About MakeDox - yes. If you could tell any story, what would it be about? - Why can a man become greedy? How and why idealism turns so often to evilness? Or actually, this one, it goes: Long time ago, I was in India, in the center of Delhi with a friend. We were followed by perhaps a 12-year-old boy who was asking to polish our shoes. “Polish, polish” he repeated following us until my friend turned around and said impatiently “Here, take it” and offered him a 10 Rs Note. Then, the boy dressed in worn-out dirty clothes looked at us and said: “Sir, I am not a beggar, I am a worker.” He turned around and left us standing there…

Traveling Cinema 2016
In the last fanzine we announced our upcoming travelling cinema, so understandably, this edition will talk about the impressions .At the final south
spot in Macedonia, among pomegranates and mosquitoes, in the incredible monastery of St.George, stood the hearth of the travelling cinema. This place has been restored and built from its very ground by the laborious hands of grandpa Simo who looks after the monastery along with his spouse, grandma Grozdena. Amazing folks! The monastery is nested in the middle of the heaped forest in Valandovo which pleasantly cools down the ambiance even on the hottest summer days. Imagine dipping yourself in the icy spring water! Believe it or not, in this place the vegetable really tastes like one, the fruit is better than an energy bar while the spirits are made of fresh grapes. The water from the "Beliot Raj" waterfall is as warm as the kind hearts of the local southerners. Participating in the lively, dynamic atmosphere at the music festival D-Fest in Dojran, we were slightly threatened by the gusts of wind, but luckily we found shelter in the eerie restored church that was actually a stage at the festival's venue. We met incredibly amiable people, listened myriad of magical stories and kept on telling our own. Our MakeDox team sincerely greets the locals from the village Chalakli and express gratitude for their warm welcome. We greet and thank, none the less, grandpa Simo and grandma Grozdena who sat still without any complaints even though we disturbed their tranquillity. Saluting the locals from the villages Kosturino, Pirava and Bogdanci for the savoury delights, we remember the friendly welcome of the villagers from Furka as well as the people from the village Josifovo who gave up their football pitch so we could have a stage for our audience. At last, we thank the people from the city of Valandovo for their smiled, kind faces who turned to us every time we went downtown. To have a living story to tell, one must abide and let it slowly ferment then crystallize till it's finally ready to be told and listened. We returned home feeling blissful and ennobled...

Doc-Horoscope The last fanzine edition revealed the favorable position of the stars this year. Our pre-ordered package from the Universe, alongside the instruction manual for the stellar copyrights, included a free constellation reading of all zodiac signs. So, we're glad to share it with you. In general, any zodiac member attending the up-coming MakeDox film projections will be awaken by intact and intensive romantic experiences, while the truly diligent multi-visit members may suffer a major work recess. Special notice: Influenced by Saturn during the projections, the Aries's going to be moody, thus advised to attend multitude of films but avoid provocative content as in "Tar on Fingers". The fleece sensitive Aries shouldn't watch the film "Becoming Zlatan". The Taurus is well positioned when it comes to film projections, enjoying the full seven-day program. We recommend the films "ArletteCourage is a Muscle", "Yaar",and for their hedonistic nature, the exclusive recommendation goes to "Flutter". For all the Geminis, MakeDox's going to project the film "Brothers" while "Two Childhoods" is recommended for the Moon sign of this zodiac. The green-eyed monster's going to lurk over the Cancer if they watch "Batrachian's Ballad". The intense influence of Mars will provoke a sudden urge for " The Fish'R'Us?" while the possible masochistic appetite may be satisfied with the film "Pusta Reka". The puffed-up Leo's going to be delighted in "Adornment" as well as in "Under the Sun" and "Becoming Zlatan". "Carousel" is strongly recommended to the Virgo along with the controversial "KNH (What Remains of the Walls)". The Virgos born in the third decade are going to display their eccentricity having Jupiter in their favor. As for that matter, "My Silicon Love" is their perfect
cinematic delicatessen. While balancing during "Yaar", the Libra will definitely hit the ceiling watching "The Monument". The film "Just Another Day in Egypt"'s going to attract the Scorpio audience who spends most of its time locked up in the ceiling. This zodiac' s going to be especially grateful for the tolerance in terms of different perspectives as shown in "My World is Upside Down". The male members of this sign should refrain watching"To Love is to Live". All the Scorpios are advised to watch "Bugs", yet warned to avoid this projection on an empty stomach. When it comes to the restless wanderer, the Sagittarius, MakeDox has prepared the film "Tourism!". The philosophy devotees of this sign may enjoy "In Search of Happiness" and "Beyond Boundaries". The mysterious Capricorn is going to delve into its self-discovery watching "Letters to S.". A positive romantic change finally lies on the horizon alongside the film "When You Awake". Soon, the Aquarius's going to be in the money due to the economic opportunities in "Goldfish Swim Better under the Rain" and "Pusta Reka". The Pisces're going to neglect this as long as Venus is in a retrograde position. The weepy Pisces will fancy the films "The Swedish Theory of Love" and "To Love is to Live".

Spicy meatball onion casserole
Đžnion salad
This is an ancient recipe that's passed on to generations. The casserole can be served as a side dish or lent cooked with fried fish or vegetarian mushroom balls.
Slice the onion(recommended red type) into crescents like a watermelon or into small circles and season with salt. Leave the salted pieces for 15 min to half an hour to absorb the salt. Then, in a separate bowl, mix the main dressing: balsamic vinegar, olive oil and a teaspoon of brown sugar. Stir well, add the onion and there you have ita perfect salad refreshment!
Ingredients: Meatballs: 500 gr of minced meat (veal or mixed), 1 egg, 1 onion, bread crumbs, dry mint leaves, 1 teaspoon of grind dried vegetables, some salt and a pinch of black pepper. Onion casserole: 1 kg of onion, 1 tomato, 2 dry paprika, 5-6 prunes, 1 handful of raisins, few laurel leaves, 1 carrot, 1 teaspoon of grind red paprika, 1 teaspoon of grind dried vegetables, 150 ml of red wine and a pinch of salt and black pepper Preparation. Meatballs: grate the onion well then add the minced meat, the egg and the rest of the ingredients (add as much bread crumbs to make a compact mixture). Form meatballs and fry them but let them under-cooked for they'll get fully cooked later in the oven. Onion casserole: Slice the onion into crescents and let them fry on a preheated oil. After the crescents become soft, add a teaspoon of grind red paprika and pour over the wine and 400 ml of water. Add the chopped tomato, prune halves, the carrot, the raisins and the rest of the ingredients. Steam it well on low heat for about 30 min. (the scent of alcohol and the excess of water will evaporate). Transfer this mixture into a baking pot and arrange the meatballs on top. Cook for 45 min. on 200' C. If you like a spicy flavour, add some dried spicy paprika. A recipe by an anonymous follower. Bon appetite!
The alternative recipe suggests half a teaspoon of mustard in the dressing while the salad can be extra seasoned with some dry cottage cheese, dried paprika or chopped parsley. A recipe by Sergey's Irena Andreevska
