Kenya dominates at the 2021 Dubai Run as Yegon, Jeptoo and Jepkosgei win Kenya’s Bethwel Yegon and Prisca Jeptoo were crowned the Men and Women’s Champions of the 2021 Dubai Run. PHOTO: Winner of the 5 km Women’s Run Janet Jepkosgei The 2021 Dubai Run began at the iconic Sheikh Zayed Road at 0600 hrs on 26th November 2021. The Run attracted over 150,000 participants from different nationalities across the world. Participants were able to choose from 3 distances: 3 km, 5km and 10km. True to its theme, ‘Feel the Energy’, Kenya continued to showcase its dominance in the World of Athletics. Jonathan Kiplimo Maiyo, who set his personal best time of 2:04:56 at the 2012 Dubai Marathon came in second at the 10km Men’s race. Africa’s fastest man Ferdinard Omanyala who led the delegation of Kenyan athletes to Dubai, completed the 5km race in eighteen (18) minutes.
Other Kenyan athletes who participated in the Dubai Run include Four-Time World Champion and Double Olympic Champion Ezekiel Kemboi and 2021 and 2010 Nagpur Half-Marathon winner Hellen Nzembi. Mr. Jas Bedi, Chairman of Kenya Export Promotion and Branding Agency (KEPROBA) and Commissioner General, Kenya Section at Expo Dubai Dr, Wilfred Marube took part in the 10 km race and run slightly over an hour at 1:05:00.

The Kenyan Pavilion welcomed 9,198 visitors between 23rd to 30th November 2021. The Kenya Pavilion has received a total of 91,015 visitors (as of 30th November 2021) since the Expo began on 1st October 2021. 23rd November 2021 Kenyan Athletes visit Jumeirah English Speaking School Kenyan athletes were invited by organisers of the Dubai Run to give a talk to students of Jumeirah English Speaking School (JESS) in Dubai. The athletes arrived at the school at 10:00am and were met by the Dubai Tourism Officials and the School Management. The athletes met with about seventy (70) children from the school and took part in an engaging Q &A session. The students enquired on the daily life of an athlete, their diet and nutrition plan, training schedules, how athletes manage pressure when participating in an event and what’s required of athletes once faced with an injury.

PHOTO: Students at Jumeriah English Speaking School Visit to Armela Farms The Chairman, Kenya Export Promotion and Branding Agency, Mr. Jas Bedi accompanied by Kenyan journalists from various print and media stations visited Armela Farms. Armela Farms is run by a Kenyan family who have setup hydroponics farming systems which involves growing crops without soil by using mineral nutrients solutions in an aqueous environment. Armela Farms is a large-scale commercial producer, packer and distributor of water-grown Lettuce and Kale in UAE. The company currently supplies to major retailers in the UAE Region and is eyeing multinationalities. The United Arab Emirates imports upto 99% of its agricultural products. KEPROBA Board Chairman, Mr Jas Bedi remarked that “This spells huge opportunity for Kenyan farmers as the UAE region relies heavily on agricultural inputs” The company is opening up the opportunities for Kenyan farmers who want to export to the UAE market. The company hopes to sign partnerships with Kenyan agricultural firms participating in the ongoing Expo 2020 Dubai.

Hon. Kanini Kega visits the Kenyan Pavilion The Commissioner General, Kenya Section at Expo Dubai and Chief Executive Officer Kenya Export Promotion and Branding Agency Dr. Wilfred Marube hosted the Chairman of the Budget and Appropriations Committee and Kieni Member of Parliament Hon. Kanini Kega. Hon. Kanini Kega also visited the Rwandan, Ugandan and UAE Pavilions. The visits mainly focused on acquainting with the region/pavilions to explore commercial opportunities and create linkages in the target markets.

SPOUSES of Ambassadors appointed to UAE visit the Kenya Pavilion The Kenya Pavilion hosted the Spouses of the Ambassadors appointed to UAE. It was a momentous occasion as twenty-five (25) countries congregated at the Kenya Pavilion at ago. The Spouses belonged to the following nationalities: Germany, Italy, Niger, Nigeria, Norway, Oman, Panama, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, Seychelles, Slovenia, South Africa, South Korea, Syria, Turkey, Guatemala, Colombia and Estonia. The Spouses were impressed by Kenya’s Pavilion especially the showcase of M-Pesa that reaches the unbankable in the society by empowering the marginalized through financial inclusion. Additionally, the Spouses were impressed with the showcase of Kenyan tribes and our unity in diversity.
