Fitness 101 By: Paul Bodenbach MA., FAFS, FMR, GPS Competitorsedge@msn.com (859) 802-2235 Watching the PGA tour this time of year peaks the interest of golfers to get back out and hit the links with an attitude of optimism and hope for the upcoming season. There are dreams of hitting gargantuan tee shots, chips with the touch of a safe cracker and holing putts with the accuracy of a skilled marksman. But what will make this season different than those in the past? The answer is, a plan specific to your needs as it relates to your golf abilities. That plan needs to start now to take advantage of the off season and give you a head start on better play when the season begins. Start by preparing your body with general fitness for strength, endurance, flexibility and range of motion. One needs to consult with a golf performance specialist to assess your golf movements and develop workouts specific to your needs. Once you have prepared your body more completely it’s time to get in front of the golf professional. Your improved body is more capable of performing the movements for a proper golf swing. Your golf pro will be able to make improvements in your swing technique. They are also the equipment experts. They are knowledgeable of the newest technology to enhance your golf experience. A combination of better body, better swing technique and better equipment is a certain recipe for success. The question I ask all of my clients is “How serious are you about getting better?” If you really want to live those dreams outlined above you have to put in the work to make them come true. The problem with most golfers is they’re their own worst enemy. They think they can coach themselves and every year they revert back to the same training and expect a different result. They don’t know how or what changes to make to succeed. By consulting the professionals I’ve mentioned you’ll get a plan developed by experts specific to your needs for more rapid and complete success. Even though I’ve referenced golf, the above plan works for all undertakings. The key is to consult with professionals to identify your needs. Perform exercises and drills specific overcome any deficits. Then, continuously upgrade the exercises to challenge your skills and abilities. As a result, that long drive, those great chips and putts will become a reality and lead to greater overall enjoyment of the game.

Maketewah Members, I hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday season! The month of January has been a busy one for us here in the clubhouse. The renovation is well underway and everyday the excitement grows! The new paint color scheme looks amazing and the transformation in Tony’s after knocking the center walls down and unveiling the windows behind the former bar makes for such a refreshing change! Now, while in Tony’s you will be able to see your friends out on the patio! I cannot wait to see the final result! You can follow the renovation progress via Facebook and Instagram as well as on the welcome page on our website that we keep updated weekly. This month, in person dining re-opens, but with a twist. We will be temporarily serving downstairs in the Legends room as the renovations take place in the main clubhouse area during the month of February. Please enter through the back steps across from the swimming pool. Reservations are encouraged as seating will be limited during this time. Thank you for your patience with us on this! It will be worth the wait! On a bittersweet note, I want to say a warm farewell to Maketewah staff member Megan Mueller who has been with us during this past season serving as our Office and Social Media Coordinator. Megan has accepted a promotion with Watsons and will be growing her career. I am very sad to see her go, but very happy and proud to see her grow her career and keep moving forward! We wish you the best of luck Megan and thank you for all of your time here with us this past season! I look forward to seeing each of you around the club soon! Warm Regards, Melissa Paule

2022 INFORMATION Meet Schedule: June 8 TBD June 15TBD June 22TBD June 29TBD July 6 TBD July 11 Championship Meet at Kenwood General Information: • The season lasts from the beginning of June through the middle of July. • Practices will be held Tuesday – Friday mornings from 10:00 – 11:15am. • Swimmers should be on time and ready to practice. • Coaches WILL work with swimmers in small groups based on age & ability. • Your child’s age on June 1 determines their age group for the entire season. • A fee of $85 will be assessed for all swimmers. • Mak is in the Blue Division with Cincinnati, Kenwood and Coldstream/Camargo Meet Information: Regular season meets take place on Wednesday evenings. Mak will host home meets and also have away meets at other clubs. Warm-ups will begin around 6:00pm with the meet starting at 6:30pm. Meets typically last about 2 hours. Parents are needed (and expected) to volunteer to help run the meets. A dinner buffet will be available for swimmers and their families with costs being charged back to your account. Coaches will need to know swimmers’ availability BY TUESDAY morning. Championship Meet: This year’s Champs Meet will be on July 11th at Kenwood Country Club. Swimmers must participate in AT LEAST least two regular season meets to be eligible. MOST FAQs: Is my child old enough to participate? Most likely… as long as your child is no older than 18 on June 1 and can make it the length of the pool (swim one lap) without stopping; and as long as the child’s parents or grandparents are dues paying members of the club, then yes, your child is old enough to swim on the swim team this season for the Maketewah Gators! Does my child need to attend every single practice and meet? Definitely not… no swimmer is required to attend every single practice or even all of the meets. As with everything, the more practices attended, the more confident swimmers feel and the more fun is had from participating in the meets, but we also understand that it’s summer break and therefore attending as much or as little as you are able is welcomed and perfectly fine.
