Where are you from?

Seven months. What’s your favorite part about working at Mak? I get to serve the same faces and make their day. I like building those connections. Where’s your favorite place to work at Mak? Anywhere I can bartend. Bartending lets me be creative and make something with my hands that people enjoy.

I’m from Cincinnati!

I grew up in Deer Park. How long have have you been at Maketewah?

I’ve been here about six months. What’s your favorite part about working at Mak? I love the members. They’re like a family to me that I get to see every day. Where’s your favorite place to work at Mak? I would say events or the 19th Hole. Events are fun because you get to meet new people, but the 19th Hole is great for just hanging out and making sure the golfers are happy.

How long have have you been at Maketewah?

Golf Course Update

Brian Silva, the golf course architect, to mark fairways and bunkers, getting ready for Phase III of the Ross Restoration Master Plan. We are excited as we begin the home stretch of the course revitalization, and I wanted to give a quick update on what will be taking place on the course in the coming days. The remaining tree work has started on the course as we get ready for the full renovation that will begin on the 6th of September. The tree company has been instructed to proceed cautiously as we are still open.

The Ross Restoration Project Dear Recently,Members,Imetwith

Thursday, September 1, we started the renovation of the fairways to the new bent grass, T1 / Alpha, making sure the fairways were dry before play on the course resumed. Moving into the Labor Day Weekend, we are continuing with12:00 o’clock shotguns. These are exciting times at Maketewah as we continue to improve the course. More updates will follow as we progress during construction.

The objective in functional training is to train movements as close to those utilized in the activity one wishes to improve. The training movement may not be exactly the same as the actual movement. However, the closer to the actual movement, the better the carry over into that movement. Consider which skill you want to improve. Break down its component parts and train each of them and the total skill will improve.

So,(859)802-2235Competitorsedge@msn.comlet’scontinuethediscussion regarding functional mechanics of our preferred activities. Last month I discussed breaking down a gross motor activity into it’s component parts and evaluating the quality of movement in each. For this discussion let’s look at mechanics of the lower extremities in the golf swing and exercises that relate directly to improving their mechanics.

Fitness 101

In a proper set up the golfer’s ankles, knees and hips are all flexed in a single plane. So, exercises like squats, lunges and heel raises are excellent for conditioning the muscles in that plane. However, the dynamics of the golf swing requires the joints to move in three planes of motion simultaneously. To make things even more complicated during certain parts of the swing the legs move at slightly different times and different speeds. Training a complicated movement requires repetition of it’s component parts. The rotation squat pictured below meets the criteria for what the lower extremities do during the golf swing. Using weights, balls, bands will help enhance the exercise process.
