South Korean Hyungi moved to the Purcell School aged 14, and won the BBC Young Musician 2012 Category final and the Walter Todds Bursary. She travelled to Italy in 2011 to win the Fermo International Marimba Competition. After leaving Purcell with the Feltenstein Leavers Award, the Royal College of Music welcomed her with an ABRSM scholarship. Since then, she came second in the Karl Jenkins Arts Award 2017 and 2018, debuted in Vietnam, was a featured artist in the London Ear Festival, performed concertos and commissioned new works. In 2019 she will be playing at St Martin-in-the-Fields, working with Live Music Now and premiering a concerto.

EDUCATIONAL WORK Hyungi has led percussion ensemble workshops at St Dunstan’s College, Epsom College and Eton School among others. She works with Live Music Now and teaches privately and at local secondary schools.
