Ensemble Molière
Baroque flute, violin and bassoon; viola da gamba, harpsichord (3-5 players)
Ensemble Molière is fast becoming recognised for engaging performances and inspiring programming. The ensemble has performed throughout the UK and Europe. Notable highlights include their debut at St John’s Smith Square and reaching the finals of the York Early Music International Young Artists Competition. The ensemble has also premiered their first cross-arts opera Pygmalion, funded by Arts Council England. Ensemble Molière has broadcast live on BBC Radio3 In Tune with highlights from both Pygmalion and their programme Medicine and Mortality. 1. Dance sweets!
Delicious little morsels of music, elegantly demonstrating the importance of dance in the Baroque period. Listen to the musical crème de la crème of this genre with pieces by Handel, Lully, Rameau, Couperin, and Pachelbel. (5 players)
2. Les visionnaires
Featuring some of the most celebrated and influential composers of the Baroque era. Inspired by Couperin's trio sonata Les Visionnaires, this programme explores the evolution of this work and its influence on later composers such as Telemann and Blavet. (4 players)
3. Medicine and Mortality – life, death and beyond
A programme centred around Marin Marais' graphic depiction of an operation to remove a bladder stone. Through poignant music and dramatic narration, we gain a vivid picture of life and death in France during the time of Louis XIV. (5 players + narrator) EDUCATIONAL WORK Ensemble Molière enjoy taking school workshops and leading chamber music coaching, as well as giving instrumental lessons to all ages and abilities.
