It’s a fresh new issue of ToDoToday Newspaper that you hold in your hands, and 1st off some exciting news: from our April issue, we’re going out on our own. That’s right. We’ll no longer be inserted into the awesome Gears & Gadgets paper you’re used to finding us in, we’ll be indepepndently sold on the same shelves you’ve always found us on. 12 TDT pages, loads more great lifestyle content and better interviews, reviews and news. I just want to take this opportunity to thank all those that have supported TDT Newspaper as it has grown over the past few months. It’s not easy getting started and making a dent in the SA media market, but thanks to you readers, we’re getting there. We look forward to continuing to be the mouthpiece for the Electronic Dance and Music festival market in South Africa. Here’s to the future! In the meantime, enjoy our March issue which lovingly includes an interview with Brian Little, the man behind the We Are One color festival, a look at something concepty from Jaguar and the latest from Sony Mobile. Shira, our resident movie Xpert has been busy at the movies during Oscar month, so enjoy her flex out on the back page. PEACE Steve!

Why is a bunch of new tech kicking off our ToDo list this month? The best foot forward from Sony Mobile recently and it features a Smart Band which head up their wearable tech division. Obviously it pairs to your smart device but it speaks to the Life Logging app on them. This means motion and emotion become one, information and entertainment know each other. In short, it’ll remind you of places visited, music listened to, games played, books read and more. And it’ll wake you up in time for work.
The SmartBand pairs to their new flagship smartphone and tablet, the Z2. These devices are desperately thin, impossibly light and stunningly clear. And they’re the most waterproof and tough smart devices that Sony have ever brought to the market. If you’re one of those “I dropped my phone in the toilet people, guess what...? Coming: May 2014
We had the great honour of being invited to sit behind the wheel of a real-life, bonified concept car from Jaguar. The C-X17 is a sign of things to come...

When talking about the C-X17, Jaguar stated that “even we don’t know what to classify it as”. We reckon we know. It’s a cross dresser, a cross between a sports car and an off-road vehicle. In short, it’s Jag’s answer to the Range Rover Evoque. Intended to be a design document for Jag’s future models, the C-X17 concept sports new features such as Jag’s “Monocoque” aluminium build, meaning when coupled to Jag’s new family of engines, 100g of C02 per kilometre. These features and more are going to be used in Jag’s upcoming models, and while they didn’t announce any of these models, they did say that the first of these new cars will be a C/D segment sedan that will launch in 2015. The C-X17 is definitely a great showing on Jaguar’s part, the technology and design truly are outstanding. Can’t wait to see it in Sedan format.
Castlevania: Lords of the Shadow 2 for the Playstation gets a run down by resident techie Aaron Luboff. Good and bad ahead... Most of the time, by looking at trailers online, it’s easy to know when a game will be great or awful. That’s what makes Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 so frustrating. The first game in the series, was a pleasant surprise for Castlevania fans and action game fans in general, thus setting expectations pretty high up for its sequel; a bar that it sadly fails to reach. Again starring protagonist Gabriel Belmont, who now has taken the identity of Dracula and must prevent Satan from returning in modern times so that he can be freed of his immortality, the first problem was: if Dracula is immortal, why can he be killed by any whats-his-face with a sword? Suspend reality...a lot...I guess. Second problem: the plot sees Dracula travelling forwards and backwards in time and this means two very different envrionments that the designers had to create, one a modern metropolis and the other

ancient castles. The mundane, square, modern city is completely lacking in impression and details compared to the beautiful and intricate castles that the artists clearly spent most of their time on. Perhaps let down a bit by the gameplay, it does feature a new engine that is good which means that though the designs are not always intricate, they are always a pleasure to look at. The game’s soundtrack is also spectacular, setting a dark atmosphere right from the getgo. There’s some pretty sloppy voice acting and corny dialogue, quite common from games these days, haven’t you found that? Good for anyone who has a large investment in this series, but if you missed it, eh you wouldn’t hate yourself! Get it: R600 From: Exclusive.co.za

Brian Little from Seed Experiences tells us what to expect from this years color bath!
peeps who sure know how to party…hard! Why is Cape Town better than Jozi? Cape Town has the most ridiculously awesome backdrop of Table Mountain. Nuff said. :) What’s wrong with Durban? Nobody buys tickets, unless it’s a Sharks rugby game! South Africa is steadily becoming a destination that all international performers have at the top of their bucket list. Who would you like to see perform in South Africa? Depeche Mode Who would win in a fight: Deadmau5 VS Steve Aoki? Haha, they would probably end up having a dance off or a spin off, something way cooler than a fight! Your company Seed Experiences have quite a stacked year ahead. Tell the fans what they have to look forward to? Heaps of off the charts FUN!!! Only if you get to the shows though, otherwise buckets full of tears. Get tickets: R290 From: tickets.weareonecolor.com
Jimmy Carr takes two of our favourite things in the world and fuses them seamlessly: bad taste jokes and the British accent. Such a pity he isn’t nearly as good looking as Rachel Williams. Oh well. He’s performing in South Africa in March. Guess we’ll go... If there’s one thing us Saffas know, and know good, it’s our comedy. Just spend an afternoon watching parliament on SABC 1 (or wherever it’s occasionally aired) and tell us that’s not hysterical. Fitting then that we should be treated in March to one of, nah, the funniest man on the island of Britain. No ladies and gents, it’s not Madonna! It’s funny man, Jimmy Carr. Carr has performed to over 1.5 million people over the years and he’s even been to SA before. This time the press release came with a warning: “Carr doesn’t pull any punches so be sure to bring an open mind”. Yeesh! What is this? A mass execution. Should be a riot! It’s the two from my mum that really hurt. Cats have nine lives. Makes them ideal for experimentation. I’m not saying Michael Jackson is guilty. With the Oscars still fresh on the radar, Shira Evian our resident movie buff went overtiime at the movies this month with two full reviews of two of the latest and greatest. Enjoy...
American Hustle - Christian Bale, Jennifer Lawrence & Robert De Niro Out of all the Oscar nominated movies, I was the most ecstatic for American Hustle (it even beat out Jarred – ombré -Leto in Dallas Buyers Club). To me, the story line sounded captivating and original. And the mastermind cast of Christian Bale (if you can imagine our smoldering Batman with quite the 70’s boep and bald patch), Amy Adams, and Silver Lining Playbook’s trio of Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper and a quick yet brilliant glimpse of Robert De Niro sounded too good to miss. This film is very out of the ordinary, yet drowned with realism. The plot is about a professional con artist who works with his, exprostitute mistress, at making more money. Once they get caught, they get trapped in an FBI officer’s (played
by Bradley Cooper) web of catching even more con artists in order to be freed of the long prison sentence awaiting them. Only after seeing this movie did I grasp the talent of the cinematography or acting that has graced our screens this past season. In American Hustle however, there were two star performances, which blew me away. The first is Bale who plays the lead and is a con artist, married to his depressed yet brutally honest and somewhat insane wife who is played by Jennifer Lawrence. Bale plays his character, a very cynical, yet cultured and down to earth one, with such ease it was like he was born in that era with a rough background that forced him into his reality. The star of the movie was JLaw though and

her perfect performance. It was just fantastic! Funny, yet honest and realistic. She plays this stay at home wife, who wanted nothing more than her husband to give her his undivided attention, yet at the same time resulting in being the best con artist of them all. In terms of the acting and talent American Hustle is a must see movie, however at the same time I felt it was 40 minutes too long, with too many final characters squished in to the last hour of the film. Also, perhaps more of a group acting between all the actors was needed, or maybe that’s just my personal wish to have seen more of Jennifer because I’m such a fan. Either way, don’t let this one slide. Go and see this pure genius for yourself.
Monuments Men - Matt Damon, George Clooney, Bill Murray, John Goodman, Cate Blanchett

The amazing who’s who cast is what initially drew me to this movie; I mean honestly, this is top of the range stuff we’re talking about, with actors like, George Clooney, Matt Damon, Cate Blanchett, (Redditors rejoice) Bill Murray and Jean Dujardin. While watching the trailer I didn’t even care about the storyline. However I was a little disappointed with what the outcome was. Describe this film? It’s the perfect mix between The Book Thief combined with Oceans Eleven (weird right? agreed). In this new kind of war story, Monuments Men is about American art curators, collectors and critics, who join the army and go to France and Germany in order to take back the art that Hitler and the Nazis stole in order to totally eradicate the minorities as a culture and society. This was all part of Hitler’s, overruling belief that the world should exist with only the blue eyed and the blond. As George Clooney perfectly explains: killing a nation does not eradicate them from history, but burning their culture does. These special ‘artsy’ soldiers go on a European treasure hunt to find these famous artifacts that have been stolen from their rightful owners. With famous artist like Picasso and
Michelangelo, this based-on-a-true story tale really does make one think about what our art history would look like if these soldiers failed. This movie’s screenplay stems from Hitler being declined from an Austrian art school as a student, and thus the Nazi’s were adamant to take revenge on all the current art existent during WWII. Their orders were to collect over 5 million pieces of art and if Hitler died in the war, to destroy these classics immediately. Without giving too much away, this movie is a typical World War II battle between the allies and the Germans with some paint splashed in the middle. You’ll definitely enjoy it if you like art, history and have an appreciation for art. However, for a war movie there are very few actual fighting scenes. I personally felt like Monuments Men would have been better off using older actors and not the usual funny and young ones, (with the exception of Cate Blanchett, who was elegantly brilliant as always). I didn’t feel like they correctly portrayed the true story. However it is very informative and wildly differs from any other World War II movies you have seen. Rather enjoyable and unique.
