Next up we’ve got some awesome tune news for you. A new track from the Wu Tang Clan has been released with the promise of a new album coming in the next couple of months. Hit ToDoToday.co.za to give it a listen, it’s worth it. And along with that bit of joy, Rocka has been launched in SA, a new brand of headphones with some important SA collaborations in it. Innit?!? Big stories of the month are @Lubeness’ review of the mighty new Nokia Lumia 1520. Magnificent 6-inch screen and a battery that keeps it illuminated for an impossible ammount of time. And we finish things off with our movie special on the back page from @ShiraEvian. There’s a hero vibe to it this month, although she’s none-too-keen on the new Hercules. Remember to check out our website daily for our After Morning Coffee (pic) Dump and our P!ss off Early Pic Dump, both creating quite a stir on our social media platforms. See ya! Steve

Quoted specs on the battery include standby time of 32 days, video playback of 10.8 hours and music of 124 hours. We don’t know about all that, but we do know that taking into consideration the power that’s required simply to power the massive screen, this battery rules like a Stark.
1PM - Done it? Tweet it!! #GoDoStuff While me may have become accustomed to 42MP cameras on our Nokia Smartphones, we’re going to have to make do with just 20MP on the 1520. Still, outstanding exposure with PureView technology and a host of fun apps to play with.
The 1520 runs a Full HD, 6-inch display that will have most men quivering in jealousy and most ladies wondering what else it can do. The Qualcomm Snapdragon processor doesn’t miss a beat, and that we mean literally.
The 1520 is a Windows Phone 8 device, meaning there’s a bit of a learning curve for newbies. The app store isn’t as stacked as we would like and it takes a little getting used to. Does that sound like a complaint though?

NOKIA 1520 SMARTPHONE
Nokia’s new big-boy (and we don’t toss that word around lightly) Smartphone is on shelves. But is it worth your hard-earned cash? We know...
I
hate the term Phablet. It sounds like something that Paris Hilton would name her dog, and most of the time I’m not sold on the concept either. It’s NOT a tablet and NOT a phone, but a weird lovechild of the two. For the most part, the Nokia Lumia 1520 proves that the concept can work, and at times pretty damn well. The first thing you’ll notice about the 1520 is it’s size. It’s a big phone (I don’t want to say phablet again). During my hands on time with it literally every person who saw it commented on its size. But in this case, size definitely matters, as the 1520 boasts some pretty impressive hardware. The 1080p screen is simply gorgeous, the colours are vibrant and the images are so sharp that I sometimes felt like I was actually pressing buttons and not a touch screen. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor inside makes the 1520 the smoothest phone I’ve used to date. I’ve never had to wait for the phone to load or even that split second you get when loading an app on other phones. You tap it, and the 1520 has it open. The battery life on the 1520 is also quite remarkable. You’ll only have to charge it about every 4 days during normal use and it even can last about a day and a half during heavy usage. That’s seriously impressive for a device that can “technically” still be
classified as a phone. The 1520 isn’t perfect though. It has two main faults that stop it from being a must-own device. The phone’s design is clearly not as premium as the rest of the package; the volume, lock and camera button are wobbly and are placed in a way that makes them hard to reach. This isn’t a deal breaker, but at first it will take some digging just to lock the phone. The phone also runs Windows Phone 8, for better and for worse. This means a really cool tile-based interface, but it also means that there’s an egregious lack of apps for the device. The appstore pales in comparison to Google Play and wouldn’t even be mentioned in the same sentence as Apple’s store. This is a case of it being a new platform however, and just as Google Play has caught up somewhat to Apple; it’s simply a waiting game. The 1520 is a great *sigh* phablet. It certainly justifies its size and it’s the fastest mobile device I’ve ever used. If some form factor issues and a lack of apps don’t bother you, then the 1520 should definitely be on your short-list. Get it: R9 500 From: www.Nokia.co.za

C
’mon, agree with me on this one, how tormenting and cruel is it of Marvel to only give us these fantastic superhero movies every 4 years? It’s utterly excruciating! And that is pretty much my only disappointment with this movie. It’s pretty simple, if you like super heroes just go to this one...now! I absolutely love the new Captain America because he’s not at all like the first one. No 1940’s setting and cinematography, no beige U.S Army uniforms, no Captain A’s love life and certainly no masked Nazi taking over the world. I thought this second movie was even better than the first. With Captain Rodgers back in the present day USA, Chris Evans is even more so, the classic, buff, blue-eyed American darling in all his glory. He is the epitome of good and just. I used to think, of all the super heroes, he definitely took the cake for most
annoying, with his famous goody two shoesslash-law abiding citizen –slash- good Samaritan persona (yup, furthest thing from Iron Man – go Rob D.J) but in this film, he’s just trying to fit in to this fascinating world around him while still remaining the number one soldier in his S.H.E.I.L.D division. The plot starts when Captain America works under S.H.E.I.L.D director Nick Flury (played by the fabulous Sam L J) who discovers that, S.H.E.I.L.D has been compromised and puts the mission in to Captain America’s hands to save S.H.E.I.L.D and the world from the untrustworthy mystery traitor. Captain America, of course accomplishes this mission with the
help of his sassy yet sexy know-it-all, the Black Widow, otherwise known as our Scarlet Johansson. The relationship between Evans and Johansson is very funny and lends plenty of humor to the film. I wont give away the enemy or too much about this movie, but I will say that certain characters come back into the plot that make it as juicy as ever. In this typical super hero movie, the costume are impeccable but they have nothing on the flawless fight scenes that are scantily less than a feast for the action thirsty eye. Round of applause to the stunt men and special effects, they were fabulous! So make sure to go see it, you will not be disappointed.

UN-GODLY
T
his movie possibly ranks as one of the top 5 worst movies I’ve ever seen. In like...my whole life! Everything about it was just horrifyingly wrong I’m not quite sure where to begin, so I will just have to start with the plot.
In this different kind of Greek mythological story (which we all think we know) the main character- Hercules is introduced as a prince in the Greek palace. So far...so good. Hercules is played by ex Twilight vampire- Kellan Lutz (uh-oh), who gets exiled to Egypt after canoodling with Hebe, Princess of Crete, who is betrothed to his brother, the heir to the throne. After being taken as a slave in Egypt, he becomes a gladiator in his attempt to return to Greece to save his damsel in distress from the clasp of his evil brother. Now, what’s wrong with it is that the story line even
though mythological, is so, so far fetched. The spin on the story of Hercules is that Hercules doesn’t even meet his father in the movie and has no interaction with Zeus, perhaps for one or two ‘help me daddy’ phrases followed by a shockingly portrayal of a lightening bolt weapon. Perhaps I should blame either Brad Pitt for Troy’s interpretation of Hercules or maybe Michael Bolton for Disney’s one, but either way this movie is not the story I wanted to see when I heard the title. I’m a sucker for a good gory guts 300type movie, but unfortunately this just isn’t it. With a combination of horrific fight scenes and even worse acting, don’t waste your time with this one. IMDb agreed with a 4.3/10 and Rotten Tomatoes with a 3% like rate. Spot on from us then.
