Malangen Resort serves as an excellent starting point and base camp for those looking to explore the Tromsø region and Senja Island. There are plenty of activities at the resort and beautiful hikes in the dramatic surrounding nature. The resort's location on the map also ensures that several attractions and fantastic natural experiences are easily accessible by car.
The resort takes its name from the Malangen fjord it sits beside. The word formation "ang" in "Malangen" predates the Viking Age. The first part of the name, "Mal," likely originates from the Old Norse word for border, "mala." The fjord has historically been considered a place where the Norse, Sámi, and Kven areas of the North converged. With the resort as the starting point, you can experience exiting adventures, and the melting pot of Norwegian coastal culture, Sámi and Kven cultures, along with the urban life in Tromsø, the largest city in Northern Norway.
By paying the mandatory Resort Fee, our guests gain access to numerous benefits at the resort. All these benefits are combined in the same package.
This means that our guests don’t need to worry about small additional expenses such as breakfast and access to our spacious and well-equipped fitness room. Children gain access to a separate playroom and the whole family can light a fire at one of our two bonfire sites down by the fjord. All can borrow winter thermal suits from the resort.
Guests who wish to see if the fish are biting have access to fishing rods, while those who wish to capture memories can borrow a tripod, which is a useful tool when photographing the Northern Lights.
Share your memories with friends and loved ones back home. Through the Resort Fee, guests have access to the Aurora Lounge, which has highspeed Wi-Fi.

The menu at Malangen Resort is built around traditional Northern Norwegian cuisine.
Our chef emphasises using local ingredients and products in all our dishes to ensure the freshest and healthiest food for our guests. The sea is the main supplier to our menu due to the proximity and easy access to the freshest seafood available.
The “naust” is a 100-year-old boathouse that has been renovated and relocated inside the hotel building.
All the decorations are authentic and donated by locals who have handed the memorabilia down from generation to generation. This cosy building serves as our “living room” for our guests to relax in during the wintertime with board games, books and candles.
As part of our resort fee, guests have complimentary access to our fitness facility located on the second floor of the hotel. Our facility features a variety of modern equipment, including running and stepping machines, dumbbells ranging from 4 to 26 kg, benches, and more. With ample space and good ventilation, up to 10 guests can use the facility simultaneously.
Please note that while we do not have shower facilities connected to the fitness facility, fresh water is available in the room, and a restroom is conveniently located adjacent to the facility. We designed our fitness facility with our guests' well-being in mind, and we hope you'll take advantage of this exclusive amenity during your stay.
Our resort has much to offer, but one of our most exclusive facilities is our stunning jacuzzi, beautifully situated on the pier's edge. Here, you can let the stresses of everyday life melt away while enjoying the spectacular views of the fjord and the majestic mountains surrounding us. We recommend a refreshing ice bath in the cold fjord for the adventurous and those who want to test their limits.
The experience is rewarded with an "Arctic swimmer" diploma. It may sound daring, but it's a refreshing experience that gives you joy and vitality.

C omprising two large lavvus (Sami herdsmen’s tents), a rustic shelter and toilet facilities, The Malangen Resort Wilderness Camp is just a 20-minute walk from Malangen Resort.
It is the base for our nature-based adventures and forms an important part of our complete resort concept. Instead of sleeping at one place, eating at another and spending hours driving in between activities or chasing the Northern Lights, everything at Malangen Resort is within walking distance.
The camp is situated on the shores of the picturesque Nikkavannet (Lake Nikka). The camp is situated 70 m above sea level in the pristine wilderness behind the resort.
During winter, you can walk on the frozen lake and enjoy the fresh mountain air.
The surrounding forest trails are the venue for our popular and personalised excursions. There is no electricity up at Camp Nikka, which means there is virtually no artificial lighting.
This enhances your Northern Lights experience and makes Camp Nikka a real hotspot in the Tromsø region for experiencing this natural phenomenon.
On cold winter nights or during nature-based experiences in the daytime, you can warm up in one of our lavvu tents. Sitting on a warm reindeer skin on a wooden bench beside the open fire, you will quickly warm up and get new energy for your next adventure. This also adds an exciting dimension to the overall experience.
Coffee brewed on the open fire up in the wilderness tastes great and will also help to keep you warm.
Malangen Resort is situated in one of the most visited Northern Light hotspots in the Tromsø area. "The Watch" enhances our guest's opportunity of seeing the mystical Northern Lights. We prepare for this magical journey with a briefing about this natural phenomenon and the current conditions before we set off to our very own basecamp, Camp Nikka, located just a 20-minute walk from the resort.
Camp Nikka is strategically located behind our resort in a location that experiences less cloud activity. Our guides statistics in recent years show that chances of experiencing Northern Lights here are around 85 per cent!
Please note that our tour does not include "chasing" the lights in a minibus because of our unique location. Instead, we have chosen this basecamp experience to allow all our
guests to enjoy the Northern Lights combined with comfort and relaxing around a fire in our cosy lavvu.

Did you know that Malangen Resort is one of few dog sledding providers in Northern Norway where the dogs are not chained up but instead live two good freinds together in pens?

We drive in pairs (one driver and one passenger) with a chance to swap places halfway. The adventure concludes with a delicious light snack by an open fire.
We have built our camp small enough, so there is no room for mass tourism and stress of any kind. You can focus on enjoying one of the best experiences the far north has to offer!
All our dog sledding trips include thermal clothing, a lesson in managing your husky team and a hot meal after we take care of the dogs.

Malangen Church is situated in a rural setting in the village of Mortenhals, an eight-minute drive from Malangen Resort. The church, which dates to 1853, was designed and built by locals. The well-kept wooden church was built in traditional long church style and can seat 280 people.
The wedding ceremony can also be held at a choice of scenic venues at Malangen Resort: inside with panoramic views, outside on the large wooden terrace, on the pier quay or at Camp Nikka, our wilderness camp on the shores of the idyllic Nikkavannet, which is a 20-minute walk from the resort.
We welcome you to an inspiring stay in beautiful surroundings in Malangen, which we can customise to meet your needs and wishes.
At Malangen Resort, we can offer a unique stay for you and your colleagues with modern meeting rooms overlooking the fjord, exciting activities and modern accommodation in beautiful hotel rooms and spacious cabins. We are proud of our kitchen, which offers a wonderful conference menu based on local seasonal ingredients. My team and I look forward to planning your next event.
