Maleny Maple Street upgrade delayed

The upgrade to the Maple Street, Maleny design project has been delayed and now is being pushed back to mid 2024.

The Maple Street enhancement project had been planned to commence this year, but is now expected to commence in July or August 2024. A number of reasons including continually rising costs have contributed to the Maleny streetscape project being pushed back to mid next year.

With not set to commence for at least another 12 months, Division 5 Councillor Winston Johnston. Cr. Johnston said although the original budgeted amount of $2.75 million had been increased to $3.5 million, the project would most likely require more additional funds

POLITICAL COMMENT MADE BY Police Minister Mark Ryan

“The government‘s youth justice laws were “considered and measured”

He continued to say; “In my opinion, with construction costs rising, to achieve what the community wants, I’d say we’ll need between $6-7.5 million.”

The additional time required to have the project started and completed gave an opportunity for Council to secure extra funding to match the projected job.

New local BBQ Updates

The new BBQ and shelter located at Boyle Park, Conondale has been completed and is ready for a picnic cook up! Works included removing and installing the new shelter which has a modern and sleek new look which I’m sure many locals and visitors will enjoy.

The existing picnic shelter at Balmoral Ridge Lookout Park has been renewed and ready for our community to enjoy a picnic with a view.

The works included retaining the existing rustic stone structure and installing a custom-made timber trimming and a new roof. I’m sure it will be well received by our community and those passing through.
