Halloween Trends When witches go riding and black cats are seen, the moon laughs and whispers, ‘tis near Halloween.

Featured Developer: Leilo

LA Trends welcomes the fabulous Leilo as our featured developer. Join us in getting to know this talented creator. Ok, first the obligatory question: what made you decide to become a creator? In the years before I joined IMVU, I was always busy on the computer trying to be creative with photos I took. I turned them into Digital Scrapbook Pages, made blends with them, and also gave fantasy photo editing a shot. I also had my own website where I used to write tutorials for other lovers of photo editing, taggers and blenders. When I discovered that I, too, could be a creator on IMVU, well, that was an easy choice to make. My first try at making something was a bear! Even with shading and lighting! The poor thing is really ugly, but I’m still proud of it :) !!

What is your favorite part of creating? When people give me a compliment about something I created, It means a lot that there are people out there who like what I’m doing. Especially when they notice little details I added, which shows me there are people out there with an eye for the small things.

Your catalog is a delightful collection of unique and amazing products. Where do you draw your inspiration from? I LOVE to work according to a theme. I did so many when I was part of the NotorieTree Agency, thanks to Vixiella who got me in, but, sadly, it fell apart. If it weren’t for them, I probably wouldn’t have had as much progress or learned as much. I still learn everyday. When someone gives me a theme or an idea, the first place I go to is Wikipedia. I start by learning and “getting” the story, if I don’t know it already. After that, I’ll look what story Google images tells me and along the way, I form my own idea from everything I’ve learned. I LOVE cosplay. When we were small, we used to dream about being a princess or a prince (just an example of many things!). Later in life, we all have own idols, movies we love, etc. A place like IMVU is perfect to dive into the fantasy/cosplay world and play your own parts as whoever you want to be.

If you could choose one thing on behalf of the creator community, what would you like to see IMVU implement or change? From a personal perspective, it would be such a nice idea if IMVU implements something in the Client for us to tweak meshes we derive from. (continued)

This is probably a dream that will never come true, it seems impossible, but we are so stuck with the meshes available in the catalog and there is room for so much more!

Is there anything you want your customers to know/ understand? I, myself, have come a long way and learned so much! There are so many things still to be learned! I’ve learned along the way that quality IS better than quantity! I really try to give quality. The software I use doesn’t make it easy, but at least, I know I did my best. The longest I’ve worked on one bundle is two weeks and it was well spent and still worth every bit of blood, sweat and tears! Never think you should stuff your catalog non-stop, there’s enough of the same things already. If you are someone who likes to make bundles, you can add other people’s “same stuff ” along with your own into one bundle. This way you’ll support another creator, grow a bigger audience and your own catalog won’t be cluttered with things you probably wouldn’t sell. No matter how tough ANYTHING is to make, never give up! (continued)

Do it for yourself to prove you can do ANYTHING as long as you don’t give up. Try not to throw a tantrum when people start to copy you. For me this was the hardest lesson. ALSO, learn the Copyright Laws. I’ve read the best advice thanks to MissMaya and TiaraStone, and try to keep by it. http://mayatiarashop.com/copyright/

And, finally, your best advice to any new or aspiring creators out there? Just start! Do what you love and explain yourself through your creations!! Go back in your memories when you joined IMVU. What made you stick around and what did you love to do?That’ll be enough drive to keep you going. My best advice: Be who you want to be, not what everybody wants to see. We do not have to be mainstream to be accepted by anyone. Just enjoy being your weird self !
