1/$10 6/$50 12/$100 CASH OR VENMO @MALVERNPREP
Name: Teresa Lohse Roles: Director of Global Programming, Languages Curriculum Coordinator, Spanish Teacher
Location: St. Augustine Center for Social Impact, Amphitheater
Description: I am focusing on a "mosaic" of experiences. Each piece of the mosaic represents an important aspect of the Malvern journey for me, for my MP students and for exchange students from Augustinian schools throughout the world. Immersion in different languages and cultures is an exciting, formational backdrop to this evolving story.
Name: Jay Rogai Roles: English Teacher, TV Studio Moderator, Lead Media Production Coordinator Description: In 2016, I attended a talk on experiential learning that has shaped my educational philosophy and guided my instruction both in and out of the classroom. Good things happen when students have an experience, reflect on it, learn from it, then apply what they learned and start the cycle over again.
Location: Stewart Hall, Media Lab
Name: Jason Sammartino Roles: Eleventh Grade Academy Leader, Upper School English Teacher
Location: Sullivan Hall, Room 208
Description: Encouraging students to develop a lifelong love of reading remains a constant goal throughout my curricular design. Through each assessment, novel, poem, and play, the students are encouraged to interact with the text in meaningful and memorable ways which not only encourage a connection with the readings, but continually build upon skills necessary for success within and outside of the classroom.
Name: Kim Tyoe Roles: 8th Grade Social Studies Teacher, Global Perspectives Teacher Description: Mrs. Tyoe focuses on student-centered learning, using student feedback to drive the design of classroom content and projects. Mrs. Tyoe has found that by emphasizing student choice in the classroom her students are more engaged and passionate in their learning. Mrs. Tyoe gives students the opportunity to make meaningful connections to history and their own lives.
Location: Sullivan Hall, Room 110
Name: Metty Vithayathil Roles: Middle School and Upper School English Teacher
Location: Sullivan Hall, Room 110
Description: Ms. Vithayathil (Ms. V) aims to create spaces on our campus where students experience a sense of belonging. In her English classes, middle school and upper school students write and share their stories, both real and imagined. Through clubs and the Directed Independent Study, Ms. V helps students explore their interests and connect with people and places beyond Malvern’s campus.
Name: Kathryn Wolstenholme Roles: Upper School English Teacher & Friar’s Lantern co-moderator Description: I believe in the power of narrative. I think we can all learn and experience more about the world and others through the beauty, heartbreak, triumph, and complexity stories offer. I always look to connect any story read in my classroom, whether that be a novel, a play, etc., to the historical period in which it takes place, was written, and then ways in which students in my room can relate to it or reflect off of it. Stories are powerful and listening to new and varied voices in narrative can make us more empathetic and curious about our world.
