SCHOOL FACTS Malvern Preparatory School is an Augustinian school, Catholic and independent for young men grades 6 - 12 founded in 1842 by the Augustinians, a religious order of the Roman Catholic Church. The school is conducted under the direction of the Board of Trustees, Augustinians, and lay educators, who cooperate in its teaching and administrative activities. The school is located on a 103-acre campus in Malvern, Pennsylvania, a suburb residential area 20 miles west of Philadelphia. Typically, 100% of graduates attend four-year colleges.

ADMISSION/ENROLLMENT Admission to Malvern is competitive. Decisions are based on above-average entrance examination scores, outstanding recommendations, a strong GPA, participation in extracurricular activities and an outstanding conduct record. Current enrollment is 630 boys - 500 in the Upper School grades 9 - 12, 130 in the Middle School grades 6 - 8. There are waiting lists for all grades, and four prospective students apply for every available seat in our 9th grade. 35% of students receive financial aid to attend Malvern Preparatory School.

FACULTY There are 73 Upper School faculty members of whom 90% hold advanced degrees. Typical class size is 16-20. Student-faculty ratio is 9:1.

ACCREDITATION The school is accredited by the Pennsylvania Association of Independent Schools and the Pennsylvania Department of Education. The school holds membership in the NAIS, PAIS, the CEEB, ACCIS, the National and Pennsylvania Associations for College Admissions Counseling, and the Augustinian Secondary Education Association.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS All students must at least successfully complete the following graduation requirements. 90% of students take more than the required credits in Science, Language, Math and Social Studies.

English - 4 Theology - 4 Physical Education - .5

Mathematics - 3 Science - 2 Health - .5

Social Studies - 2 World Language - 2 Music/Art - 1

Students are required to take 6 courses each year; with the possible exception of those students taking 3 or more AP courses. No student may take less than 5 courses, unless approved. A student must receive permission from the Assistant Head of School for Academics if he wants to take more than 4 AP courses. There is a Christian Service requirement for all students in grades 9-12. In addition, all juniors must participate in a 2 week intense service project, either nationally or internationally.

CALENDAR YEAR Malvern operates on a semester system. Grades are generated 2 times per year. (January and June) We operate on an 8 day modified block schedule and classes meet five times per 8 day cycle.

DISCIPLINE Malvern will disclose to colleges and universities any serious disciplinary violation. We also expect and counsel our seniors to make full disclosure of any serious disciplinary violations that occur after applications have been submitted to colleges.
