ispirazione nasce con la libertà. Mi piace cercarla in ciò che mi circonda, ma la verità è che l’ispirazione nasce all’improvviso e non necessariamente nella ricerca o nelle cose che mi piacciono. Arriva, spesso, dalle cose più improbabili, dai ricordi più o meno dolci, dall’incontro (s)gradevole con una persona. E allora, penso che l’ispirazione nasce quando si è liberi e spregiudicati. Liberi di seguire ciò che si ama e spregiudicati cioè senza pregiudizi e aperti al nuovo e all’accoglienza. Seguendo queste considerazioni, ho pensato che il regalo di Natale più bello è vivere in questa condizione di spirito che permette di essere ispirati. Una vita professionale votata ai “come fare”, ha preso, a questo punto, il sopravvento ed è stato così che ho stilato la mia personale lista di step per raggiungere l’agognato mood: 1. Stacca la spina, almeno a Natale! Dedicati agli affetti, a te stessa. Va’ dove ti porta il cuore (ops, suona familiare…). 2. Passeggia senza meta, verso posti nuovi, non fermarti alle apparenze, ricorda che il bello non è imbrigliato in un unico stile. Questa lista è stata il filo conduttore del primo numero di maMa. maMa ha seguito il cuore: da Olivia Brusca e a Natale al Poggio per scoprire il vivere lento, il fatto a mano, la preziosità dei piccoli piaceri. È andata a casa di Marina e di Carla, due donne splendide e forti per tornare all’essenzialità e all’autenticità di tutte le cose. Poi, ha passeggiato senza meta, incontrando Dagi e il suo stile indie: un nordico contemporaneo e romantico intriso di elementi africani e asiatici. Uno stile che ritroverete anche nello shopping per la tavola natalizia, perché mai come quest’anno è importante concentrarci sul valore dello scambio interculturale. Buon Natale (ispirato) a tutti!
I
nspiration comes when one is free. I like to look for it in all that surrounds me, but the truth is that inspiration hits all of a sudden and not necessarily during the pursuit of it or in the objects I like. It often comes from what you least expect. So I think that inspiration originates when one is free and without any mental boundaries. Free to follow what one loves and open minded towards what’s new and towards hospitality. Following these considerations, I have also been thinking that the greatest Christmas gift is perhaps being able to live following these thoughts, which allows to feel and to be inspired. A professional career dedicated to the “how to” has, at this point, taken over and so that’s how I have created my own personal list of steps needed to achieve the much craved mood: 1. Unplug and unwind, at least during the holidays! Dedicate time to family and to yourself. Follow your heart.
2. Go strolling without a schedule, go places never seen before, don’t stop before appereances, remember that beauty is not linked to only one style.
This very list was behind the first issue of maMa, maMa followed her heart: from Olivia Brusca and Natale al Poggio discovering a kind of slow way of living and the preciousness of small pleasures. She went to Marina and Carla’s homes, two great and strong women, and discovered authenticity and essentiality in all things. She then strolled without a destination and met Dagi and his indie style: a modern and romantic Nordic permeated with African and Asian elements. A style you will find in the shopping section for the Christmas table, because never before like this year, it’s significant we concentrate on the value of intercultural exchange. Cos’è Natale? Siamo andati a Modena, da Olivia Brusca per scoprire che il Natale è una cosa seria Cos’è OliviaBrusca e cosa si può trovare? Olivia Brusca è 35mq di FlowerDesignLab pieno di tutte le cose che più mi piacciono a partire dai fiori per finire ad una selezione di oggetti nordici, di brand indipendenti, handmade. È un laboratorio floreale rivolto ad aziende e privati sempre in evoluzione e attento alle nuove tendenze. Cos’è il Natale e cosa non deve assolutamente mancare? Una volta, un caro amico mi ha detto “ il Natale è una cosa seria” ed io credo avesse ragione. Natale è tradizione, famiglia e lucine sempre accese. Profumi di biscotti e regali che crescono sotto l’albero (vero e montato tutti insieme). Natale è magia. Adoro questo periodo dell’anno e inizio sempre con largo anticipo nel cercare i regali. Non deve mai mancare la carta giusta, il nastrino dorato come chiudi pacco e il vischio. Ci racconti Natale con Olivia, l’evento? Un evento-coccola in questo piccolo laboratorio floreale il 12 dicembre, in cui ho racchiuso tutto quello che fa ed è da sempre, per me, Natale. Un modo per stare insieme e scegliere i regali senza la frenesia dell’ultimo minuto. Ci saranno ghirlande, abeti, palline di ceramica, idee regalo (a partire da pochi euro) e sidro di mela e cannella con biscotti di pasta frolla, per festeggiare insieme la magia del Natale.
What is Christmas? We traveled to Modena, to visit Olivia Brusca and to discover that Christmas is a real serious affair What/Who is OliviaBrusca and what can we find there? OliviaBrusca is a 35 square meter floral design lab full of stuff I love, ranging from flowers to nordic deco objects, from independent brands to handmade. It’s a floral lab for corporate businesses or private individuals always evolving and always aware of new upcoming trends. What is Christmas and what should never be missing? A dear friend once told me “Christmas is a serious matter” and I believe he was right. Christmas is tradition, family and twinkle lights. Freshly baked cookies, presents under the real and family adorned tree. Christmas is magic. I love this time of the year and I always start early looking for gifts. The right wrapping paper, the golden ribbon and bows and the mistletoe should never be missing. Tell us about the event , “Christmas with Olivia” A comforting event on the 12 of December in our small floral lab, where I have collected all that evokes and creates Christmas, A way to be together choosing the right gifts,without leaving everything to the last minute. There will be wreaths, firs, ceramic baubles, gift ideas (from very low prices) and apple cinnamon sider with shortbread cookies, all together to celebrate the magic of Christmas. th

Era una fresca mattina di novembre, l’aria frizzante e profumata e la luce del sole brillava sulle colline intorno a Firenze. Era esattamente un anno che attendevo di visitare Natale al Poggio e finalmente ero lì! Una breve passeggiata (in salita perché le cose belle vanno conquistate) e arrivo all’ingresso. Scorgo immediatamente quella che intuisco essere l’organizzatrice, “la boss”, DaniVerdeSalvia (attorniata da una folla entusiasta, non poteva essere altrimenti…) e alla mia sinistra niente di più favoloso… (continua sul nostro sito)

It was a cool November morning, the air was fresh and scented and the sunlight danced on the hills surrounding Florence. The long awaited Natale al Poggio edition had finally arrived , an event, organized by DaniVerdeSalvia, that gathers all the most creative and original artisans of the Italian handmade scenery. The 50 exhibitors of this edition experimented, played and created without any limitations on style or materials.

A black and white Christmas under the northern stars Black and white elements, updated classics and exotic touches here and there: this, in short, is Dagi’s style. Owner of House of Ideas, an interior decoration shop based in Northern Germany, she is an authentical inspiration seeker. Her house in Hesse reflects her thirst for light.
Sotto le stelle del nord, un Natale in bianco e nero Tanto bianco e nero, elementi classici rivisitati, qualche misurato tocco esotico ecco, in sintesi, lo stile di Dagi, l’eclettica creativa e inspiration seeker di House of Ideas. La sua casa in Assia rispecchia una sconfinata sete di luce. Tutto è bianco, infatti, ma tutto è anche costellato di tocchi di profondo nero. “È così, attraverso il contrasto, fra nordico ed etnico che creo il mio stile, radicato nelle forme classiche della decorazione eppure contemporaneo”, racconta Dagi che non abbandona il suo binomio preferito neanche per Natale.

Morbide sedute bianche arricchite da cuscini a stampa geometrica e plaid in cashemere arredano il salotto dove una consolle bassa in legno laccato mostra alcune delle passioni della padrona di casa, la fotografia e il design. Dal salotto, sfiorando l’albero di Natale, si accede direttamente alla sala da pranzo, dove si trova una composizione d’Avvento tipicamente nordica: una zuppiera colma di muschio, bulbi e mini- sfere argentate. La camera da letto denuncia, forse più che gli altri ambienti della casa, il carattere nordicamente classico dello stile di Dagi. Tappezzata con una carta da parati toile de jouy è sorprendentemente contemporanea e leggera grazie ai cuscini d’arredo a stampa geometrica, ai numerosi complementi d’arredo neri e alle inclusioni decorative di matrice orientale.
In her home everything is white and dotted with touches of deep charming black. “Through the contrast between white and black I create my own style, very classic nordic and yet contemporary”, says Dagi. The bedroom more than other rooms of the home reflects Dagi’s classic/contemporary style: here you will find toile de Jouy together with geometric inspiration; traditional nordic furniture together with black decoration elements.

Sfere trasparenti come neve sui rami spogli, zucchero a velo che scende sui dolci homemade, ricami preziosi e fil di ferro, una pioggia di doni. Neanche a sognarla l’atmosfera sarebbe così perfetta. La padrona di casa è Marina de la Gallinella Bianca.
Here, in a sweet home in the Roman countryside everything is getting ready for Christmas. Transparent spheres are like snow flakes on bare branches, powdered sugar falls on homemade cakes, precious embroideries stay with wire artwork, gently wrapped gifts are everywhere. The atmosphere couldn’t be that perfect not even in a Christmas dream. We are at Marina’s home.

She has created a whole environment of celebration and warmth. In the kitchen, among gingerbread and soft sponge, an advent calendar helps the Christmas countdown; in the living room candles, soft tones and berries give a magical mood. She loves the marriage of opposing new and old, light and dark.

La tavola di Marina non è solo il luogo dove verranno disposti i piatti della tradizione, ma è anche la cornice di sentimenti di benessere, serenità e gioia. Il centrotavola fatto di pigne mignon, le lanterne, le corone in crochet, l’antico servizio di posate: ogni cosa è pensata per regalare bellezza e amore. The table was set with both modern and traditional items: extra small pinecones, lanterns, crochet wreaths, vintage cutlery all come together in harmony. Here at Marina’s place, Christmas is designed to give beauty and love.

Il Natale speziato e green di Carla È stato incredibile entrare a casa di Carla! Varcata la porta color carta da zucchero siamo stati avvolti dalla magica atmosfera del Natale: tanto verde puntellato di rosso e un profumo di zenzero e cannella travolgente. Con un sorriso aperto e gentile, Carla ci racconta di come ha trasformato la sua casa di famiglia e della gioia provata nell’allestire il Natale fuori periodo. Ingrediente principale: passione; parola d’ordine: semplicità. Riportare le cose all’essenziale, spogliarle da orpelli e convenzioni, recuperare valori e sentimenti per trovare un nuovo linguaggio della bellezza; questa è l’arte di Carla. Ogni decorazione è stata realizzata con lo stesso spirito con il quale sono stati fatti gli arredi e cioè con quello del creare e recuperare con cuore e mani.
Carla's green and spicy Christmas It was incredible to enter Carla’s home! Once entered the antique blue door, we were overcome by the magical Christmas atmosphere: lots of greens with flashes of red and an overwhelming ginger and cinnamon aroma. With a gentle and friendly smile, Carla told us how she transformed her family home and the joy she felt arranging for Christmas much before its usual time.Main ingredient: passion; main keyword: simplicity. Bringing things back to their essence, stripping them of the tinsel and traditions, regaining values and emotions in order to find a new language of beauty; this is Carla’s flair. Each decor was arranged with the exact same spirit that was put into decorating the house ,which is that of creating and recycling with the heart and with the hands.

Nel caso di Carla, poi, il cuore e le mani raddoppiano visto che ad accompagnare ogni sua avventura creativa c’è sempre Davide, “incaricato” dei lavori più pesanti e, a volte, di quelli più delicati. Sotto le direttive di Carla, con pazienza e attenzione, Davide ha tagliato e forato le tante lampadine che, trasformate in vasi mignon, scendono sulla tavola. Carla è ricorsa ad elementi naturali (Mirio, bacche di iberico e fiocchi di cotone) per le sue stilose eppure semplici decorazioni della tavola: ghirlande che avvolgono candele bianche come centrotavola, mini ghirlande come segnaposto e una pioggia di cristalli colmi di verde che sovrasta tutto. Dalle sedie patinate (una diversa dall’altra e tutte decorate da Carla) ogni ospite potrà ammirare l’albero 100% handmade. L’idea che più ci è piaciuta? Le piccole cornici di recupero patinate! In Carla’s case, heart and hands double up because of Davide, who follows her in every creative adventure and who takes care of the “heavy duty”work and sometimes even of the more delicate jobs. Under Carla’s directions, with patience and attention, Davide has cut and drilled all the bulbs that, after being transformed into mini vases, find place above the dining table. Carla has used natural elements ( myrtle,red berries, and cotton pods ) for her stylish yet simple table decorations: centerpieces made with candles and greenery, mini place setting red berry wreaths and a crystal rain full of greens that hangs over everything. From the patinated chairs ( each one different from the other and all decorated by Carla ) every guest can admire the 100% handmade tree. The idea we liked most? The tiny recycled frames!

Ognuno dei 19 allestimenti pensati per il libro sono un mix di décor, progetti fai da te e ricette. Per il décor del brunch di Natale Emilie fa scendere sulla tavola un ramo di legno, bacche e palline per l’albero.
Each one of the 19 book’s presentations is a mixture of décor, diy projects and recipes. For the Christmas brunch décor, Emilie lets a branch hang above the dining table with red berries and christmas baubles.

Un Natale d’argento e di natura a casa di Rita
A silver and natural Christmas at Rita’s place
Questa è la storia di Rita, di una casa molto amata e di tre splendide donne. Tutto ha inizio qualche tempo fa, quando Claudia, Michela e Serena, hanno unito i loro tre distinti estri creativi in Atelier Authentic, un vero e proprio laboratorio dell’eleganza dove tutto è creato con cuore e mani.
This is a story about Rita, a well loved home and three beautiful women. Everything began a few years back when Claudia, Michela and Serena united their distinctive creating flair and started Authentic Atelier, a unique lab about elegance where all is created with the heart and with the hands.

Creatrici di atmosfere chic e rassicuranti al tempo stesso, le tre donne fra patine, allestimenti, realizzazioni di interni e serate a tema hanno letteralmente stregato Rita che le ha invitate a casa sua per un intervento radicale sui suoi interni. La specialista delle patine, Michela, ha cambiato totalmente il look ai mobili rendendoli di grande tendenza grazie alla sovrapposizione di colori e cere, insieme Michela e Claudia hanno decorato ogni centimetro della cucina: “L’aiuto di Serena è stato indispensabile in questa fase, ci ha riportato all’ordine quando necessario e ci ha guidato con il suo grande senso pratico e di progettazione”, confidano all’unisono. La voce di Rita, la padrona di casa, è non meno rilevante di quella delle tre creative. Makers of chic but at the same time comforting atmospheres, these three women, with their patinas, installations, interior projects and themed events, fascinated Rita who invited them to her place to radically change her interiors. The patina expert, Michela, completely changed the look of the furniture, giving it a new appearance by wisely using layers of paint and wax. Michela and Claudia both decorated every inch of the kitchen: “Serena’s help was very important during this phase, she recollected us when necessary and she guided us with her high sense of practicality and professionality”, they both tell us. Rita’s opinion, the home owner, is not less important than that of the three creative ladies. 67
Infatti, ogni dettaglio della casa parla di lei e della sua famiglia, delle sue passioni e dei suoi grandi amori: figlia e marito ai primi posti, naturalmente. Quando siamo entrati in questa casa senese, allora, abbiamo percepito l’energia e la potenza creativa di Atelier Authentic e il grande cuore di Rita. La tavola di Natale rispecchia appieno tutto ciò. Luci d’argento, oggetti di famiglia, posate d’antan e delicate patine si ritrovano sulla tavola di legno riunite per celebrare le feste.
In fact every detail of the house speaks about herself and her family,about her passions and her true loves; daughter and husband first of all,obviously, followed by the love for art. When we entered this house in Siena we instantly felt the energy and creative power of the Atelier Authentic and also Rita’s warm soul. The Christmas table reflects this totally. Silver lights, family possessions, Antan cutlery and delicate patinas are to be found on the wooden dining table, all placed ready to celebrate the holidays. 69

Ginger and Cinnamon Sugar Ingredients Caster sugar; Ground cinnamon; Ground ginger
Put the sugar in a jar filling up just below the rim. Divide the sugar from the jar into two bowls, in equal parts. To one bowl add a couple of teaspoons of ground cinnamon and one of ground ginger and blend all together obtaining a solid colour. Start layering the two sugars in the jar,one on top of other, creating multiple layers and pressing firmly in between, so that the colours won’t mix.Close the jar and decorate with a gift tag. Use the spiced sugar for christmas cookies, but also with tea or coffee. Placed in a small decorative bowl it will aromatize your home.
Zucchero allo zenzero e cannella Ingredienti zucchero semolato; cannella in polvere; zenzero in polvere Dividete lo zucchero in due ciotole, in quantità uguali. Aggiungete ad una di esse un paio di cucchiaini di cannella e uno di zenzero. Frullate lo zucchero fino ad ottenere un colore uniforme. Riempite il barattolo alternando gli strati e pressandoli bene. Chiudete il barattolo e decorate il tappo con la tag. Potrete usare lo zucchero come ingrediente per biscotti natalizi, ma anche per aromatizzare tè o caffè. Se versato in una ciotola, profumerà delicatamente la casa.
Preparato per cookies Ingredienti per il barattolo 200 g di farina per dolci 1 cucchiaino di lievito 1 cucchiaino di bicarbonato Un pizzico di sale 70 g di zucchero scuro 70 g di zucchero semolato 100 g di fiocchi d’avena tritati grossolanamente nel mixer 75 g di gocce di cioccolato fondente 75 g di confettini colorati Ingredienti freschi per completare la ricetta 90 g di burro morbido 1 cucchiaio di estratto di vaniglia 1 uovo Create nel barattolo gli strati degli ingredienti. Partite dalla farina setacciata assieme al lievito, al sale e al bicarbonato. Sovrapponete nell’ordine: zucchero scuro, zucchero semolato, fiocchi d’avena, gocce di cioccolato e confetti colorati. Pressate bene ogni strato. Chiudete e personalizzate il barattolo con la tag. Scrivete su un’etichetta le istruzioni per i biscotti. Versate in una ciotola il contenuto del barattolo, mescolate e poi unite gli ingredienti freschi. Suddividete l’impasto in sfere della stessa misura. Posizionatele ben distanziate in una teglia imburrata o foderata con carta da forno, schiacciandole al centro. Lasciatele riposare in frigo per 30 minuti. Infornate per circa 15 minuti a 175°, fino a doratura.
Cookie Dough (in a jar) Ingredients for one jar 200 gr of all purpose flour 1 teaspoon of baking powder 1 teaspoon of baking soda a pinch of salt 70 gr of dark sugar 70 gr of caster sugar 100 gr of roughly grinded oats 75 gr of dark chocolate drops 75 gr of coloured nonpareils Fresh ingredients to finish off the recipe 90 gr of softened butter 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract 1 egg
Place the ingredients in the jar, layering them. Start with the flour, sifted together with the baking powder and baking soda. On top of the flour place the dark sugar, followed by the caster sugar, then the grinded oats, the dark chocolate drops and end with the nonpareils, pressing all layers firmly in between each other. Close the jar and decorate the lid with a gift tag. Write the following cooking instructions onto a label. Empty the contents of the jar into a bowl. Mix well and add the fresh ingredients. Divide the dough into equally sized balls and place them onto a parchment lined or buttered cookie tray, slightly pressing each in the center. Place in the fridge for about half an hour. Bake until golden for about 15 minutes at 175 Celsius.

Zucchero ai cranberries Ingredienti 1 busta di mirtilli rossi essiccati zucchero semolato Frullate o pestate qualche cucchiaio di mirtilli rossi. Dividete lo zucchero due in parti uguali. Aggiungete ad una di esse i mirtilli e frullate per ottenere un colore omogeneo. Alternate nel barattolo strati di zucchero bianco e zucchero colorato, pressando bene ogni strato. Chiudete il barattolo e decorate il tappo con la tag. Usate lo zucchero per aromatizzare tè e tisane o per decorare dolci e biscotti.
Cranberry Sugar Ingredients 1 bag of dried cranberries Caster sugar Machine blend or hand crush a couple of tablespoons of cranberries. Divide the sugar from the jar into two bowls, in equal parts. To one bowl add all of the crushed cranberries and blend all together until obtaining a solid colour. Return to the jar and start by placing one layer of coloured sugar followed by one of the natural sugar, pressing firmly in between. After completing the layers of sugar, close the jar with its lid and decorate with a gift tag. This sugar can be used with fruit and herbal teas or to decorate cakes and cookies.

Ginger Honey Ingredients Acacia honey Fresh ginger
Peel the ginger and cut it into thin slices. Cut out small stars from the ginger slices using a cake design or cookie cutter. Layer the honey and then the ginger stars up to the top of the jar. Close and customize it with a gift tag. Start using the honey after one week, at its best with herbal teas and blends.
Miele allo zenzero Ingredienti Miele d’acacia Zenzero fresco Pelate lo zenzero e tagliatelo in fette sottili. Ritagliatele con l’aiuto di un cutter per biscotti o per cake design a forma di stella. Alternate nel vasetto strati di miele e stelline di zenzero. Richiudete il vasetto e personalizzatelo con la tag. Consumate il miele dopo una settimana. Ottimo negli infusi e nelle tisane.

È quasi Natale e benché l’aria sia fresca e il sole timido, una colazione all’aperto ci sta proprio bene. In pochi semplici gesti Giulia Tomaselli, progettista di esterni di Bambusa, improvvisa una tavola elegante e naturale per celebrare in modo inconsueto la festa. E a partire dalla colazione. Non una colazione veloce, ma una gaia con tanto di tovaglia bianca, un legatovagliolo di spago, rosmarino, cannella e melette selvatiche. Per completare, bicchieri flutes capovolti sorreggono le mini candele e piccole ampolle richiamano la tradizione dell’albero. It’s nearly Christmas and, although the air is fresh and the sun is pale, an outdoor breakfast is what we need. With a few simple gestures Giulia Tomaselli, landscaper at Bambusa, sets up an elegant and natural table to celebrate the holidays in an untraditional way. Starting from the breakfast. Not a quick rushed breakfast, but a happy one with white tablecloth, twine napkin holders, rosemary, cinnamon and wild apples. To complete the look, upside down flutes hold the tiny candles and small ampoules hinting back at the traditional Christmas tree.
