“ How can we design an
application for an evaporative cooler making it user-friendly and informative?
Evaporative coolers are a type of cooling unit which are extensively used in Pakistan. They are available in different sizes and with different interfaces.
These interfaces are usually hard to understand and hard to use. They are confusing, with no clear differentiation between the uses of different knobs. There is a lack of app-control or remote control as well when compared with Air Conditioners.
PROBLEM
IDEATION
The proposed application is a user-friendly one which is fairly simple to understand and use. The evaporative cooler provides real time data to the application through the use of a microprocessor and sensors. The application uses a cool color palette in reference to the main purpose of the unit: cooling.
APPLICATION
The new design of the evaporative cooler as well as the accompanying app are intuitive and user-friendly.
Most of the interface is made of symbols for easy comprehension regardless of the language the user speaks. Advanced options are given for scheduling as well as weather settings.

“ How can we re-purpose the Toyota hilux to reflect local culture?
The brief of the project was to repurpose the Toyota HiLux car keeping in consideration factors such as ergonomics, aesthetics, feasibility etc. The project was in a group of 5 people. Pakistan has a set of very diverse cultural communities who have distinct styles of embroidery, music, language and lifestyle.
Inspiration was taken from truck art and a small scenario was built as to what the repurposed HiLux should look like.
PROBLEM
Personas were created in order to identify the key stakeholders and to understand them better. Then interviews were conducted with people who were key stakeholders; online surveys were also conducted to understand user needs and preferences.
