In Florida there are 2.5 million small businesses.
Support Local Business
Shop Local. Eat Local. Spend Local. Enjoy Local. While we all know and recognize the important role small businesses play in our region, this pandemic has has brought even more focus on how critical they are to the fabric of our community. They are the foundation of our economy. These businesses provide jobs, create our sense of entrepreneurial spirit, and serve to enhance our quality of life. The statistics around the role and importance of small business are striking. According to the Small Business Administration, in 2019, there were over 2.5 million small businesses in Florida comprising 99.8% of all businesses in the state. These same small businesses employed 3.4 million people, creating nearly three out of every four new jobs, while supporting one-half of the state’s economy. In Manatee County, these same trends continue. At the Manatee Chamber, 80% of our members have 25 or fewer employees. We are so proud that our local small business network has supported each other as well as our community by providing services or products to those most in need. Many of the local breweries, when they were not able to open for regular business, started manufacturing sanitizer when it was a scarce resource. Other businesses provided free meals to health care workers or pivoted from their core business to create and provide PPE. Still others have freely shared their quicklyimplemented strategies to address and adapt to a bevy of new situations in their workplaces - all in the hope that their experience can help another business be successful.
We're here to help you connect, learn, pivot, adapt, recover, and thrive.
These are just a few of the stories that we have heard from our members. All of these local business owners and their teams have shown generosity and determination during a time of great uncertainty and adversity in their own small business. As a community, we must continue to support the businesses in our region. Support them by ordering takeout, shopping online locally, buying gift cards, hiring local professionals, and patronizing local service businesses. You can even support them without spending any money through posting positive online reviews, promoting them on social media, and continuing to encourage your friends and family to shop local. The Manatee Chamber is here to provide the connections, share official, credible information about resources, and advocate on behalf of local businesses. Together we are stronger.

The Chamber Represents You It’s What We Do and Your Business Success Is Why We Do It
As businesses continue to adjust and adapt to changing demands, it is more important than ever that the Chamber hears from you. Our team - board members, committee members, and our dedicated Chamber staff - is focused on advocating for pro-business public policy and providing resources and support for local businesses. Our work is broad to serve a diverse business community and deep to address the specific needs of different industries. As we head toward Florida’s 2021 Legislative Session it is more important than ever that we have clear priorities so that we can easily, and succinctly, communicate the needs of businesses to elected officials and other partners. Our legislative priorities and issues may look different this year as employers require access to economic relief funds and reasonable regulations around operating during a pandemic. Meanwhile, the Florida Legislature will be focused on economic recovery and budgetary issues. The Chamber's Legislative Committee is working now to build our 2021 agenda so that we are ready to work with elected officials at all levels of government. Input from local businesses is a fundamental part of our process and we encourage you to share your insights with us. The Chamber also works with governmental partners at the local, state, and federal level to link your and your business to official resources and programs. Our priority is to share accurate, official information that is timely and relevant. We do this via email, social media, programming, and member outreach. If you have questions about these resources, please let us know. We are here to advocate on your behalf and advocate for enhanced systems for our business community. The Chamber is also providing meaningful support to small business owners through webinars, videos and speakers on relevant topics. If you would like to suggest topics that you think would be beneficial to your business and team, please let us know! We can easily tap into the Chamber's wide network of professionals and experts so that you can focus on growing your business. If you would like to get involved in the Small Business Council or have ideas for Chamber programming, please call or email Amy Farrington at 941-748-4842, ext. 124 or AmyF@ ManateeChamber.com. We appreciate the opportunity to represent your business and our community. We look forward to hearing your ideas, working together on solutions, and representing your interests with policy-makers. It's what we do and your success is why we do it!

headliners Building a Brain Healthy Community for the Florida Suncoast and Beyond
Dr. Stephanie Peabody, Neuropsychologist and Executive Director, Brain Health Initiative A healthy and optimally performing brain is essential for living a long and fulfilling life. By 2030, the World Health Organization estimates that half of the worldwide economic impact of disability will be due specifically to brain-related disability. As the elderly population is projected to nearly double that of the young by 2050, longitudinal brain health research and innovation across the lifespan is urgently needed. Formed in 2018 and headquartered in Lakewood Ranch, Florida, the Brain Health Initiative (BHI) features collaborative leadership from the Academy for Brain Health and Performance and Massachusetts General Hospital, a Harvard Medical School Teaching Hospital. Brain health clinicians, researchers, academics, and innovators from across the Harvard system and throughout the state of Florida, as well as national and global collaborators, are engaged in this collective impact effort to support significant positive brain health and performance outcomes for the greater Suncoast region and beyond. Join us as Dr. Stephanie Peabody, Neuropsychologist and Executive Director of the Brain Health Initiative, provides insight into brain health in our community and why it is important to residents and businesses, BHI’s goals and research, and how you can get involved.
Headliner events are open dialogues designed to allow members the opportunity to learn from and interact with our speakers.
