on the cover MYP Elevates the Voice of Young Professionals and Creates Stronger Networks for Members Manatee Young Professionals (MYP) members gathered for valuable networking and plenty of fun at LECOM Park for a Marauders baseball game in early May. The group consisted of both seasoned members and new members who have recently entered the workforce. Marty the Marauder paid a visit as our members enjoyed complimentary snacks and drinks on the LECOM Park boardwalk. Despite the heat, MYP was ready for their cover photoshoot! MYP is our cover feature for good reason! As programming and events came back online in late 2020, the leaders within MYP have ushered in new opportunities for members. There are new committees, projects, and events. “Coffee with the Chair” is a great example. This event connects MYP members with the MYP leadership, great networking, and special guest speakers, including local business owners and elected officials who share important life and work advice with attendees. MYP professional development seminars and other talks feature speakers who offer valuable tips and tools for young professionals to strengthen their skills to make an even greater impact in our region and in their workplaces. How did MYP develop these new events and programs? The members chose them! MYP's Leadership Committee and two sub-committees are vital to the growth and evolution of the program. The MYP Events & Programming Committee plans special events that create opportunities for young professionals to connect and grow their network. The MYP Marketing & Engagement Committee guides messaging about the MYP program and aims to improve membership, event attendance, and program participation. Committee involvement gives members a chance to assist with important decisions, encourages them to create and maintain important connections, and strengthens leadership skills. The MYP Leadership Committee takes a big-picture approach to determine MYP priorities, programs, and events while advocating on issues to make Manatee County attractive to young professionals. It's a great time to get involved! Professionals aged 21-40 years gain access to a variety of knowledge, resources, and friendships through MYP. The annual fee is only $60 for Chamber businesses and other discounted rates are available for companies with multiple young professionals. MYP has been growing for more than 22 years. By getting young professionals connected to each other and with our community, we will continue to educate, empower, and build social capital in our young professionals - they are the leaders of today and tomorrow. FAFSA: Impacting Our Future Workforce The completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is a central initiative of REACH Manatee. The FAFSA is required for federal educational assistance and is used by technical colleges, 2- and 4-year colleges, and universities to determine school-based aid for students. Approximately 4 out of 5 students in Florida use a combination of federal, state, and school-based aid to pay for college. However, the FAFSA completion goes beyond funding for school. Students who complete the FAFSA are more likely to enroll in higher education, persist at college, and obtain a degree. All of this is crucial to meet our community’s future workforce needs. Post-secondary attainment leads to greater career outcomes for students, a stronger workforce, and, ultimately, robust economic development. On average, students with a bachelor’s degree earn $1 million more over their working lives than someone with only a high school diploma. To support attainment of post-secondary education, our collaborative REACH Manatee partnership is promoting FAFSA completion as a critical step for students and their families in planning for future education. Our area partners continue to work together to highlight and provide resources for students and families about how to pay for college and planning for your career. Visit REACHManatee.org for more information. Please share this information with employees, fellow business owners, friends, and family. It could change a student’s future and positively impact your future workforce, too. June | July Current 2022 | Manatee Chamber of Commerce

As a new member of the Chamber, we saw benefits immediately. We were so excited to be able to go live on Channel 7 with Meredyth Censullo to promote Pineapple Kitchen! This opportunity was made possible because of the Chamber. Liza, Membership Development Representative for the Manatee Chamber, reminded me to write a Press Release and add our event to the Chamber of Commerce Member portal. Literally, as soon as it posted we received a call from Channel 7 saying how they hadn’t heard of us and were anxious to do an interview with us. Thank you so very much for being a caring community partner for us! We are thrilled to be a part of such a great Chamber! - Jenny Schenk, Owner Founder Pineapple Kitchen

business after hours We were honored to host April’s Business After Hours at our winery. Thank you to everyone who attended. In addition to great food provided by our wonderful team at Sonny’s BBQ and wine provided by Fiorelli Winery, the venue was great for networking and making new connections. Fiorelli Winery & Vineyards was started by Antonio & Rosa Fiorelli who officially announced the opening of the winery in 1998. We, John and Kristin Hokanson, now own the property and are grateful to be able to carry on the legacy that Antonio and Rosa started. Our vineyard boasts an assortment of fruit bearing trees among the 7.5 acres of beautiful vineyard. The vineyard is open to the public and we encourage anyone who visits to explore the property, walk through the vines, and sample grapes. Fiorelli Winery & Vineyards is open to the public Thursday-Sunday with wine tastings held at the top of every hour. We also have live music every Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 – 5:00 PM. Kids and pets are always welcome! It was a pleasure meeting each and every one of you at the Business After Hours event. We are so grateful for all you do in helping support our local businesses and feel blessed to live in a community with such great support. We look forward to seeing you all again soon! Cheers! John & Kristin Hokanson

SMART (Sarasota Manatee Association for Riding Therapy) was honored to welcome Chamber members and guests to the May Business After Hours event. Since 1987, SMART has provided over 77,000 therapeutic riding and equine assisted learning program hours to over 6,000 individuals. We provide equine services to children, adults, veterans, cancer survivors, and first responders. Volunteers are the heart and soul of SMART! As a not-for-profit organization that is mostly volunteer powered, SMART depends and relies on the support and strength of many dedicated and caring people. SMART volunteers give the gift of their time and talents which makes it possible for every SMART rider to celebrate the freedom of movement, the companionship of a horse, and the feeling of inclusion and acceptance that comes from being surrounded by people that care about them. In addition to the amazing volunteers, the horses are the best part of SMART! There has always been something special about the connection between human and horse and our SMART horses prove that every day. Our horses are patient, gentle, kind, and take their job as "trusty steed" seriously. They love to be loved on and will leave hoofprints on your heart forever. These attributes, along with exceptional care on the part of our volunteers, make it possible for our SMART Riders to receive the maximum therapeutic experience.
