EcoHerent [Ecotecture] Indigenous Group’s Floating Cultural Center for The Backpackers The project requires students to propose a Rest & Recreation Stopover at Banding Island, Malaysia. Banding Island is an area where eco tourist would stop over for a few nights to survey its world famous Belum Rainforest where the natural setting of the forest is still in its pristine and original condition. The aim of the project is to follow governments envision - position it as a premier heritage destination on the world ecotourism map. Banding Island is a 243-hectare inland island encircled by the Temengor Lake. It is a 130 million year old rainforest island (Belum Rainforest) , surrounded by a man-made lake created in the late 1960s by constructing the Temengor Dam and flooding the valleys of the Upper Perak River and its tributaries. Furthermore, it is also one of the oldest backpackers trails due to strategic location and safe environments. However, the site has extreme slope that is dangerous for new development. There are 2 indigenous groups in Banding Island, namely the Jahai and Temiar group. They live under poverty in this area by fishing, hunting and making hand craft as source of living. The design of this project starts from by having the indigenous group to interact and provide services for tourist who like to experience ethnic tourism. Ethnic tourism refers to travel motivates by the search for the first hand, authentic and sometimes intimate contact with people who ethnic and/or cultural background is different. In this project, the targeted tourists group is backpackers. They are driven by the desire to see some of the threatened cultures that may soon disappear through assimilation into nation’s majority. The aim of this project is to provide opportunities for tourists to experience the indigenous group’s culture and at the same time, to provide budget accommodation, targeting backpackers. With the participation of local communities + availability of local resources, a sustainable development of cultural eco-tourist spot is formed. In the long run, this will boost the ecotourism of Banding Island and elevate the living standard of the indigenous group.

Pinang Hotel Industrialized Building System (IBS) Airport Hotel By selecting a site across Penang International Airport (PIA), students are required to design a medium size airport hotel to cater the expansion of the airport and future development of the site, which is the proposal of Bayan Lepas train station. The site is undergoing rapid development woith dense business activities ongoing. This has significantly increase number of travelers flow. However, currently there are no hotels located nearby to cater the demand. The site is generally under rapid development. Therefore, Industrialized Building System (IBS) is chosen as the method of construction to fulfill the basic goal of faster construction time, cheaper cost, low labor intensity and high quality construction. The chosen site will act as the transition point between the airport and the future proposal of train station. Hence, it will the new iconic point of the site. The main idea of the proposal is to act as an airport hotel, resting point for travelers and a business center for business events. This will increase economic opportunities. To highlight the iconic value of the project, the state’s tree- Pinang tree inspired the shape of the overall design. It reflects and capture the essence of Penang as a glorious state while remaining humble to its identity.

Epic-Hyptecture A Vertical Agriculture Tower In Your City As Malaysia is moving towards an era of high-tech and high-income economy status by 2020, it is high time that a new center-piece in the form of an iconic steel tower that symbolizes these inspirations is realized. With increasing population in the urban area, we intend to create an iconic steel structure designed for vertical farming supported by a farmer’s market (pasar) downstairs, set in the city of Kuala Lumpur (KL). It is a sustainable, scalable, open-source vertical farming system and solutions that can be shared by the community. On top of that, urban agriculture supports the market with products that do not need to be transported. This reduces carbon emission in transporting crops to urban areas. Meanwhile, food is both local, safer and healthy. Controlled environment reduces the need for pesticides. To mark Malaysia as one of the leading agriculture exporter, ‘EPIC / HYTECTURE’ will be the first vertical agriculture building in KL. A pioneer steel tower with the concept developed from Pasar Borong Selayang – where wholesale food distribution FIRST began.

Architecture Language - Biomimicry Solution For The Sustainability In Nature Beyond replicating the natural forms, we govern those forms in this project to create a sustainable approach for the tower. Thus, inspired from the nature ‘EPIHYTE’ relationship, borns the EPIC-HYPETECTURE. It means a mutual replationship between plants(Body/Skin) grows on a massve plant(Host) for physical suport:

Emerging Edges Architectural Installation Competition This installation is built for PAM ANNUAL ARCHITECTURE STUDENT WORKS EXHIBITION 2015 - with theme called ‘FAB:NATION’, held by PERTUBUHAN ARKITEK MALAYSIA (PAM), also known as Malaysian Institute of Architects. The exhibition aims to showcase the very best architecture students; works from all Malaysian architectural school either public or private. Students are required to exhibit their students’ works according to the theme within an installation of their own design. In this project, the concept of our installation is in relation to the National Day, where the focus is to highlight the importance of unity despite of the diversity of the citizens to achieve a better nation. Emerging Edges: conceptually, the meeting of every vertices is a symbolic all the different individuals joining hands, strengthening the nation in various aspect. The composition of different shapes, color and orientation represents the unity to be achieved by the nation regardless of status, race and religion. The composition smaller triangles form bigger triangles, indicating the stronger nation. To both adhere to the niche of our school, Ecotecture, recycled wood and recycled cardboard are chosen to construct the structure of the design. Lights are also integrated with the design to add to the visual focus. Structurally, finger joint used to construct the wood frame work, and this match the idea of unity where multiple woods are required to support each other in order to make the system works.

Urban Urchin Factory City Modern Industrial Building Typology With the rising of the 4th Industry Revolution, it is time to use technology innovations to create a smarter factory to attain a sustainable future. To design a smarter factory, it is to achieve the aim of agile and flexible spatial design in the factory itself. In the project, there will be modular assembly and aggregation of highly individualized units of manufacture, that is ‘PLUG-IN’ to each other. It is in fact a constantly evolving megastructure where it changes and adapt according to its function & time. With that, module of related (or non-related) units can be brought together to form larger aggregates, broken apart and reconfigure to create infinite number of combinations and possibilities to collaborate. The modules, or the architecture, itself has become the building. The building is not just an architecture, it is also part of the production process which are constantly in the process of transformation. The spaces inside the highly individualized units can transform according to the needs of the end users. In addition, the hybrid allows mixture of commercial, education, production and accommodation which creates a form of lifestyle inside an industrial building. In that way, it creates a more individual and personalized production goods. Furthermore, it forms a harmonious relationship between human and machine. Taking inspiration from the nature, the shape of the module is developed from the anatomy of the sea urchin. By mimic the shell of sea urchin and applies on the shape of module structure, enables the module to achieve greater stability and spatial qualities. The client for this project is Cressi. It is one the largest manufacturers of water sports equipment in the world serving the scuba dive, snorkel and swim industries. Meanwhile, the chosen site is located right beside the sea, where it is suitable for the company to conduct any research and development activities on the site.
