awyer and collector Toñico Manahan, said that investing in art has increasingly been accepted as a valid alternative class of investments, and it is traditionally called a passion investment with both quantifiable and unquantifiable attributes. At a a time like this, he echoed the sentiments of Noah Horowitz, the Director Americas of Art Basel, who said, “One thing we know historically is that crisis yields some of the greatest art of our lives and this is one historical truth above all the historical cliches that we can expect an absolute flourishing of artist’s response to the moment, and many great things to be put out in the coming period.” The founder and director of León Gallery, Jaime Ponce de León, joined in the discussion to provide some interesting insights into the current art market, with tips on how to to start a collection, whether you choose to buy from the primary market (direct from the gallery) or at auction or resale. Manahan provided his own investment strategies, incorporating the new reality of virtual or hybrid auctions and exhibitions.
