Annual summer plant material is on the way for the city’s medians, municipal buildings, and parks The beautification team is working on adding new plants to parking lot beds at the department’s public private partnerships along with improved irrigation and added moss boulders. Ongoing efforts are being made with repairs to irrigation leaks and lifting tree canopies to a safe and manageable height

Athletic fields were full of recreational players with end of the season games and tournaments. Construction of the new automated park entry gate was completed at the Skinner Sports Complex to help control vehicular access during open park hours. The complex also received further painting on fencing, bollards, scoreboards and more. Field allocation applications were received for baseball, softball, flag football, and soccer for the spring 2024 season

The parks, trails, and splash pads have been full of end-of-school year events. The two new splash pads at Gertie Barrett and McClendon Parks have been enjoyed by the community Communication and marketing efforts are underway to educate the public about the splash pads being for people only. Dogs are not allowed in the splash pad area for health and safety reasons. Due to the increased number of dogs in the park, Mutt Mitt stations have been added to Gertie Barrett Park to make sure dog waste is disposed of properly Park pavilion rentals are filling up for the summer.

The Park Operations team is working to further implement Green City GIS for asset management and work orders for park maintenance projects All efforts are being made to ensure the final landscape technicians are hired to make sure the team is fully staffed for the busy
