THERE’S A NEW SHERIFF IN THE CITY! Ekurhuleni Executive Mayor Mondli Gungubele this morning announced Mr Bafana Andries Mahlabe (46) as the City’s new Chief of Police.
Making the announcement at the headquarters of the Municipality in Germiston, Mayor Gungubele said that after an extensive and rigorous interview process he was confident that Mahlabe was the right man for the job. Mahlabe, who hails from Duduza in Ekurhuleni, is appointed with effect from 1 October. He takes over from Hlula Msimang who left the post for the City of Johannesburg after completing his five-year term of office. The new police chief has been appointed on a five-year fixed term contract. “It has taken us over a year to fill this position because we were looking for the most relevant person. A person who understands the dynamics of the city and has a clear vision on how to win the battle against crime. During the interviews Mahlabe demonstrated such and we are convinced that he has what it takes to take us into the future,” the mayor explained. “Our metro police is only 13 years old and therefore we need a visionary who can continue from where previous police chiefs like Mongezi India, Robert McBride and Hlula Msimang left off. “While we have done a lot in the 13 years, there is plenty more that needs to be done. We are now faced with new challenges among them violent service delivery protests, land grabs and the scourge of drugs at the forefront of which is the notorious Nyaope. CONTINUE ON PAGE 5

ARE you a business owner or an entrepreneur looking for financial support from the public and private sector? The Qondis' Ishishini Lakho campaign is part of the township economy revitalization project, one of the key deliverables of the Gauteng Provincial Government. Through this campaign, the provincial government aims to ensure that businesses in the townships are formalised through registration. This will enable them to qualify for business advisory services, financing, upskilling through partnerships, investment etc. and providing services to the public and private sector. The campaign will be delivered in two phases and extended to all Gauteng townships. The first phase will not only create awareness of the forthcoming campaign but also comprehensively prepare aspirant business owners for the company registration requirements and processes. The first phase will thus not only detail the requirements of establishing a company but the responsibility that comes with growing and managing a business. It will highlight the importance of understanding one’s market and that not all business ideas are viable. The second phase of the campaign will see the provision of company registration services in over 100 townships across the province.
A tip off from the members of community on Monday (October 12) in Katlehong, led to the members of EMPD Community Liaison and Anti-Cable Theft Units to apprehend seven suspects as well as recovering a 17 meter copper cable. All the seven arrestees, whose ages range between 24 and 37, were caught red-handed digging up the copper-cable in an open field opposite the houses on Aphane road in Kumalo-
Starting a business is not easy, and it’s made harder if one does not have knowledge of what is required to run a business as well as having access to services that can help to ensure that the business succeeds. The Gauteng Provincial government has heeded the call from township entrepreneurs and business owners, and we want to help you so that you can contribute effectively to the growth of our economy. At that time (about five years ago) such literature was deemed ‘necessary’ towards our understanding of the English language. The ‘school education system’ has provided a detailed summary of the events outside South Africa, irrelevant to the progression of millions of diverse cultures.
Personally, I will have my children home-schooled in African literature, religion, science and history. The curriculum I teach would see this continent as having no direction (no east, south, west and north), the ages of the civilizations of the Alexandrians to the Congo-bantu. For example, during my last year in high school, a short novel by George Orwell named ‘Animal Farm (published 1945)’ presented a metaphorical story of the Russian Communism Revolution. This political fable has taught me that “All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others” – a quote that I will never forget so long as this type of ‘democracy’ is the order of the day.

Because Martin Luther was born in Germany, the world should not accept the doctrine of Protestantism. The world is blessed by the ‘reformed’ Christian followers. Because Alexander Hamilton and Lafayette were not born in America, Americans should not accept and appreciate the benefits they bestowed upon the nation. The world is fortunate to have political parties and the world-shattering ‘capitalism’ ideology. Because Marconi was an Italian, we of the new world should not make use of wireless telegraphy. Today, people can use media of all kinds to share information from anywhere to anyone connected. Because Africans have been subject to marginalization throughout the world by all other nationalities, the world should not become a slave to racial/tribal division and discrimination.
She has been laid-off pending the outcome of the Board of Inquiry into allegations of misconduct, her fitness to hold office and her capacity to execute official duties efficiently.
The Solution? African history today should be of vital importance to its inhabitants, especially the natives of this continent. Let us fill our libraries with literature of daily life, art, religion, exploration, natural discoveries and inventions from our people.
Taking Phiyega’s place, General Phahlane was working as the Divisional Commissioner for Forensic Services at the SAPS.
In this modern age of Information, our collective efforts in creating and retaining the knowledge of our times lead to a well-developed and progressive history.
“President Jacob Zuma has considered the response from the National Police Commissioner, General Phiyega, received on 28 September 2015, in which she made representations to him as to why the President should not exercise the power conferred upon him under section 8(3) (a) of the South African Police Service Act, 1995, to suspend her pending the outcome of the Board of Inquiry which the President has established,” said Presidency spokesperson Bongani Majola. According to the law; the suspension was in terms of section 8(3)(a) of the South African Police Service Act, 1995.
Knowledge is only potential power. It becomes actual power when it can be directed to a definite end. South Africans now have the power, through the media of this age, to acquire knowledge of themselves and their environment – potentially enlightening the nation towards boundless freedom beyond democracy. Wonder why all developed countries of the world have a rich collection of records in libraries, schools, universities, museums and churches. If any of the aforementioned institutions are absent in your community, the coming generations are in trouble. Mapepeza Community Newspaper was created with that in mind; to redress the ‘side-lining mentality’ of our state institutions and officials by our less informed members of the Republic (i.e. the mainstream media). I know no national boundary where my people are concerned. The whole world is my province until Africa is free. My story is history.

WE WANT SOCCER IN THIS TOWN! Heidelberg police officer, Capt. Blose points to the hole left by the soccer poles he erected in a field in Langlaagte street. Obviously, the nearby residents have removed them without consulting anyone. According to Blose, the love of soccer is shared by many of the people who live in town. “We used to play soocer in this field from long ago. At one time, an attempt to introduce soccer at Hoer Volkskool Heidelberg was not considered, we even had help from local soccer legend ‘Disko’ Phadima’ , but nothing happened.”
Social Crime Prevention is a priority to all SAPS officers, which states that they should contribute to reconciliation and community development in their local communities. “With soccer, some of the officers can train to keep fit and most importantly increase our Performance Enhancement Processes - which is now at a rate of zero, because of no related initiatives taking place that we can be a part of,” said Officer Blose. Anyone looking to assist can call him on 082 348 2931.

We recently also saw the shocking incidents of necklacing and gangsterism in Etwatwa; and as we head towards the festive season we need to sharpen our claws more because criminals are now on the prowl. “Therefore there would not have been a better time to fill this position so that we ensure that the EMPD is properly led and guided during this period of the year. It is at this time of the year, more than ever, that we must be vigilant both on the roads and in dealing with crime because this is the time of year when most of our people are vulnerable and are prone to being victims of crime,” Gungubele elaborated.

Gungubele indicated that because Mahlabe is not a member of the EMPD, the City is following all necessary processes as defined in the Police Act to ensure that the appointment is in accordance with the law. Mahlabe shall be taking an oath of office during a parade scheduled to take place in Germiston on October 22.

he fifth edition of the Gauteng Sport Awards kicked off at the Silver Star casino on Sunday evening, October 11 where Gauteng Premier David Makhura opened the awards. This year’s awards were held under the theme “Gauteng the Enabler of Excellence”.
