An amount of R 1 million has been set aside for this double-edged pothole patching project targeting poverty alleviation and infrastructure maintenance which aims to touch many people through the utilization of cooperatives in the implementation. During the event, the district Executive Mayor went on to echo words of encouragement to the youth and women to establish these cooperatives to allow them to benefit from such programs in the future.
ROAD RE-GRAVELING BEGINS IN DIPALESENG! Gert Sibande District Municipality launched a road re-graveling programme to deal with all the terrible internal gravel roads within the municipality that sometimes make traveling on them an awful experience. The district Executive Mayor together with his entourage descended to Dipaleseng to launch this programme on Tuesday, August 8 at Siyathemba Stadium. The program which is the Premier’s initiative in conjunction with the Department of Public Works was launched a year after the local government elections of the 3rd August 2016 where commitments were made by the ruling party. “We are here to fulfill some of those commitments, through the maintenance of roads which is also a crucial element of service delivery,” said the Member of Mayoral Com-
mittee from the district responsible for Infrastructure Services, Cllr NS Nhlapo. She also observed that they are cognizant of the fact that this kind of a program is not a long-term solution but only offering a short-term remedy while financial resources do not allow for a more permanent solution. This is in line with the district’s mandate to assist all seven local municipalities within its jurisdiction to effectively render services to its communities. The aim is to rotate the district’s, the Department of Public Works’ as well as the relevant local municipality’s yellow fleet to all the municipality to assist them with the roads not yet paved and/or tarred. A total of seven graders, two tipper trucks, a TLB and other machinery will be deployed to work in
Dipaleseng for the whole month of August covering a total of approximately 51 km² of gravel area to gain maximum impact. A work program has been developed in consultation in Ward Councilors which identifies all the street and roads that require attention. The Executive Mayor of Dipaleseng Local Municipality, Cllr Mafunda Makhubu was very appreciative of the efforts made by the district in support of the municipality and its service delivery endeavors. He further requested ward councilors to be fully involved with this programme in their respective wards. “The district is also looking at rolling out pothole patching as well as renovations of community halls in Siyathemba and Grootvlei” said the district Executive Mayor, Cllr Muzi Chirwa.
The memorial service of fallen ward 59 councillor Tebogo Maama (pictured) went well in Barcelona Staduim Katlehong, City of Ekurhuleni on Thursday, August 17. Leadership of the metro council, regional ANC and former City mayors joined the community in paying tribute to the late public servant. A civic funeral service is scheduled for Saturday morning, August 19 at the same venue. On Thursday, 10th August 2017, council regrettably learnt of the passing of ward councillor, (Cllr) Johannes Tebogo Maama (J.T) who served in ward 59, Katlehong. Born in Tsakane in 1973, Cllr Maama was recruited into politics when he joined the Congress of South African Students (CO-
SAS) in 1984 at the tender age of 11, the youngest primary school pupil to be allowed to join the student movement at that time. He later moved to Katlehong where he earned the nickname “Mokaba” due to his political aptitude. Best described as inquisitive and conscious, as a leader he exemplified the principles of ubuntu. Cllr Maama lived his life devoted to the liberation movement and his track record as an activist shows his commitment to fighting for freedom. He was a critical member in the structures that fought the system of apartheid in Ekurhuleni. His passing has dealt a blow to the community as he was a valued member who served in the institution as a deployed councillor of the African National Congress (ANC).

The 1956 march and others before by thousands of fearless women are testament to the role of women in bringing about our democracy. During the 1956 march about 20 000 women of all races marched to the Union Buildings to protest against the discriminatory pass laws which had restricted the movement of black people in the country. This seminal moment in our history has been celebrated since 1995 as Women’s Day, and is the focal point of Women’s The ladies of Lesedi Local Municipality’s Community Services department reMonth celebrations. During Women’s Month our nation recognises the important role of political activism by women cently celebrated Womens Month by dressing in stylish red and yellow attire. during the struggle for liberation against colonisation and apartheid.
People of all ages (and all races) gathered at the capital city to celebrate this year’s 61st Anniversary of Women’s Day. The spectacular event saw the Gauteng Provincial Government livening up the streets of Tshwane, in honour of the thousands of women who marched against pass laws in1956. The province retraced the women’s march
with a 2.2 km march, where women from all walks of life marched from the Pretoria Station and ended at the Women’s Living Heritage Monument at Lilian Ngoyi Square. This year Women’s Month is celebrated under the theme: “Year of Oliver Tambo: Women United in Moving Gauteng City Region”.
“Woman thou art loosed” Luke 13:12 And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity. This is a profound biblical story of a woman who suffered in three ways; she was an outcast in the society, afflicted in her body and spiritually bound. In biblical times people with disabilities were considered worthless, hopeless and were cursed. People with disabilities were usually dumped at temples and street corners in order for people to pity them and give them handouts. Perhaps this woman was also dumped at the synagogue by her family because of her sickness. Possibly being discarded from the society was the least of her problems as she suffered pain since her body was bent; this meant that she couldn’t do anything by herself. She was unable to stand up straight like a normal human being. Her condition was not only a medical condition but it was also perpetuated by an evil spirit. She lived with this condition for seventeen years. One day while Jesus was teaching he saw her, this woman was at the right place at the right time, this was not a matter of location but position. By attending Jesus teachings she was positioning herself, she was aligning herself with her destiny, suffered for seventeen years she had nothing to lose. Possibly she heard about Jesus the Messiah and the miracles that he performed; as she was listening to him, she did so with an expecting heart, a heart that said if Jesus can raise Lazarus from the dead then the story of my life is about to change. Her long years of suffering did not stop her from believing. Jesus called her and released her from her sickness. Position yourself with God through Jesus Christ, life may have dumped you, you may be sick in your body or relegated from the society, Jesus is calling you. It doesn’t matter how long you’ve suffered Jesus will restore you. Shalom

ELSHAMA GAVE BIRTH TO ESTHER
Womens Day in Ratanda Township was filled with celebrations and events all over, but at the community hall near the local library, it was an unforgettable day for everyone there. Elshama Church welcomed sister Valatia with a guard of honour and flags hoisted in the air for all to see, led by the Women’s Prayer of Rainbow Denominations of Salvation – an organization that is made to establish moral regeneration of the country’s politics and society.
The ordination ceremony of Mrs Valashiya as an apostle for the people was carried out by Pastor V.P. Rojie, witnessed by the congregation of Elshama and the community. “Mrs
Valashiya is the first female apostle in South Africa who is appointed to solve the political instabilities, especially at the highest office in the land. From this day, she is now Esther. She was the one who saved her people from death when she led her people after Jacob. Today, our own ‘Jacob’ has a government that will be redeemed by God’s grace and the power given to our Esther. She will lead us to salvation” said Rojie. The book of Esther in the Bible’s Old Testament relates the story of a Hebrew woman in Persia, born as Hadassah but known as Esther, who becomes queen of Persia and prevented a genocide of her people. Senior citizens of Ratanda who
were invited received food parcels. Theses beneficiaries are vulnerable and poor people who need support. ANC Lesedi Local Municipality Chief Whip Themba Mtshonyane also attended the ceremony on behalf of the municipality, and joined in handing over much needed relief to the people in the community. The Elshama Womens Political League (or Womens Prayer) has been gaining momentum in recruiting women all around the country. According to Esther, through prayer and favour from the Almighty they will be in power and bring order to Parliament and the government. Written By Joseph Masindi

MZANSI TRIO TO COMPETE IN THE IAAF DIAMOND LEAGUE!
ATHLETICS: Caster Semenya (pictured), Wade Van Niekerk, Luvo Mayonga are scheduled only to return home after participating in the IAAF Diamond League. Upon their return, Athletics South Africa, SASCOC and Department of Sport and Recreation SA will then afford them an opportunity to be paraded in front of local media and all South Africans. The men’s 400m will not be a mere rematch, but rather a postponed world championship duel between world record holder, Olympic champion, and world championship gold medallist Wayde van Niekerk (RSA) and his greatest rival Isaac Makwala (Botswana). Makwala missed out on the London 400m final in a dramatic manner. Now, Makwala is looking forward to challenging top favourite van Niekerk in the IAAF Diamond League title race. revised system for the first time this year. The best athletes of the current season could qualify for the final at the 12 preceding Diamond League meetings. 100,000 US dollars will be awarded in prize money in each event. IAAF Diamond League champions will win 50,000 US$. “The new system enhances the status of our meeting even further. And it provides for added suspense and drama, as the points collected at the qualifying meetings have no influence on the outcome of the finals. Everyone starts at zero. In addition, the prize money at stake has been increased considerably,” Andreas Hediger, Weltklasse Zürich Co-Meeting Director, explained. The revised qualification procedure has already stood its first test, according to Andreas Hediger: “All 16 final events feature the new world champions of London. The IAAF Diamond League thus also proves to be an ideal forum to get to the top of one’s game for major championships.”
