Editor: (078)221 8002 Adverts: (083)758 3892 Email: info@mapepezamedia.co.za The Mapepeza Newspaper has tragically lost one of their own. Mookgo Liza Mahlangu was only 20 years old when she passed away on Saturday evening on the Day of Reconciliation (December 16). Ratanda Police have opened an inquest case docket to investigate the cause of her sudden death. “We’ve only known her for over two months now. She fitted right in the editorial team, loved by everyone and very dedicated to proving herself. Mookgo was indeed the light bulb around the office, not only because she was light-skinned and beautiful but she always showed concern for everyone of us. When I heard the news of her passing, I couldn’t process it. Thinking about how the rest of the colleagues would take it, I decided to tell them a little later when the police confirmed it was true.” said Mapepeza Editor Stephen Seakgwe.

In the little time that we had with her, we truly remember her and may her soul rest in eternal peace.” concluded the Editor. Mahlangu finished her matric in 2015 and worked for one year before coming to Mapepeza. In November, she was officially welcomed to the editorial team as the language translator and reporter. She is survived by her extended family, spouse and infant child.

Rest In Peace Mookgo Mahlangu, we’ll always miss you...

Mookgo joined Mapepeza in October to help the team translate some of the editorial content from English to Sesotho. It didn’t take a week for her to get used to the dynamic, young workforce. Her kind and humble character became the one that defined her role in the newsroom. “She always bought lunch from her

Earlier in August, the executive mayor Mzwandile Masina alongside MMC of Department of Community Safety, Cllr Vivianne Chauke

unveiled new ambulances and PRVs at the Leon Farreira Fire Station in Boksburg. During his address at the opening, mayor Masina said that ambulances are a provincial competency. But the mayor said the City must not live with the burden of residents unable to get emergency medical services, so they did their part in boosting the existing fleet. "Ideally, we should have 318 ambulances to better service the people. A procurement plan to get additional 20 vehicles to increase the fleet to 100. At the end of our administration in 2019, we must have reached 320 ambulances," said the executive mayor four months ago.

Emfuleni, Rand Water agree on payment plan The municipality made the commitment during a meeting between the Department of Water and Sanitation, the Gauteng Department of Human Settlements, the Emfuleni Local Municipality and Rand Water. The meeting, held at the Sedibeng District Municipality offices, was aimed at finding an agreement regarding a payment plan by Emfuleni to Rand Water to ensure the continued supply of bulk water services. A team of officials presented the agreement between the municipality and Rand Water to political principals entailing a commitment to pay R150 million on 11 December 2017. A shortfall of R30 million is to be worked into a longer term payment arrangement, which is broken down into R11 million per month over 24 months. In total, Emfuleni owes the Rand Water board about R270 153 387.

The Emfuleni Local Municipality also committed to ensuring its billing system is sufficiently responsive to enhance compliance with the Local Government Municipal Systems Act and give comfort to the municipality’s clients. “Part of ensuring the long term sustainability of water supply must include addressing the billing challenges. I want to assure residents of Emfuleni, business and various other users that we are working on billing improvement, and assure them that there will not be any water cuts and lives will not be in-

terrupted,” said the new Emfuleni Local Municipality Executive Mayor, Jacob Khawe. Water and Sanitation Minister Nomvula Mokonyane welcomed the agreement and commitment by the municipality to ensure the water debt is paid. She said the department was hopeful that other municipalities which are in debt for water supply will follow the example made by Emfuleni. The department has received at least 11 proposals from various municipalities indicating willingness to come to payment arrangements with the Department of Water and Sanitation

Emfuleni Local Municipality Executive Mayor, Jacob Khawe and Water and Sanitation Minister Nomvula Mokonyane share a moment during the meeting to resolve the municipality’s water debts with Rand Water.

t’s that time again to say Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year. It’s hard to believe just how months, weeks and days fly by. This past year has been a year of many accomplishments for Lesedi. Our community has drawn together and we have accomplished more than ever before. Even in challenging circumstances, through the shared ownership of our municipality we managed to accomplish quite a few notable and sustainable projects and programmes towards better service delivery and better livelihoods for the people of Lesedi. A lot has been planned for the new year, we just aim to improve on where we are ending the year on. As we celebrate this holiday season, I hope we will spend more time with family and friends. Let’s use this time to reflect and count our blessings. The greatest gift we could exchange this season is to serve one another. May I ask you all to remember your neighbors at this time of year, especially the elderly and those who live alone. I would also like to extend a special welcome to those who have come home to Lesedi to be with their families and hope that you have a wonderful time. Those that are travelling, travelling mercies and remember to get the little ones properly buckled up at the back.

My very best wishes go to those who are sick at home or in hospital this festive season and I wish you a speedy recovery. And on behalf of Lesedi Local Municipality, I wish you all the love and blessings of the season. We look forward with anticipation to another great year in 2018. Happy Holidays!

Cllr Lerato F. Maloka, Executive Mayor of Lesedi Local Municipality

The year has seen a number of major initiatives implemented, which seek to strengthen service delivery and build from the gains and achievements of the previous administration. The City of Ekurhuleni continues to strengthen its identity as a synergised and integrated city, getting rid of the “nine towns” stigma. Through the Siyaqhuba rapid service delivery programme, we have managed to harness relations with our communities. It is with humble appreciation that the programme has become synonymous with service delivery. The commitment demonstrated by our departments indicates that Siyaqhuba can only grow from strength to strength. Our joint efforts in all levels of the city will ensure this outcome. I wish to thank each and every one of you for making the City of Ekurhuleni function as effectively as possible. Our external corporate image has improved and we maintain standards of fiscal prudence. As we usher into the festive season, I urge everyone to rest, indulge and more importantly spend time with family. During the year we are all embroiled in the system of governance; at times this requires immense sacrifice which affects the most important institution, the family. May this festive season be one of reflection, happiness and reconnection with loved ones. Human Capital is the engine and essence of any institution, therefore this requires that we all take care of ourselves, mentally, physical and emotionally. Holidays are indeed an important time for such resuscitation.

postle Paul did not have a problem with the Christian community in Rome having confidence in themselves, God’s gifts or even their achievements. By the way it was through Paul’s testimonies of what God has done in his life that saw many Jews and gentiles being converted to Christianity; therefore the scripture does not imply that we should be silence when God blesses us. The apostle’s warning was for those whose achievements make them look down on others. Testimonies of success, breakthrough, progress etc. were meant to uplift hope for the hopeless, encourage the discouraged; it was not meant for showing off or boasting. Paul was warning the Christians in Rome not to look down on others simply because they’re less gifted than them, according to Deuteronomy 8:18 it is God who gives us strength to prosper, without doubt prosperity comes from God and not on merit but by his grace.

Merry Christmas to fellow Christians and a wonderful and peaceful festive season to everyone. Do remain safe and cautious during this period, as this is equally a period where roads are very busy. Safe travels to those travelling.

She handed the prizes to both male and female winners of the Mandela Remembrance 10km marathon. During his speech to the thousands of participants, Advocate George Bizos said we should learn from Nelson Mandela’s life and legacy. He also shared his best memories with Madiba. Another dear friend of Mandela and struggle stalwart Sophie de Bruyn said: 'We come here every year to rededicate ourselves to continue promoting Madiba's legacy.'
