Teenager sentenced to 30 years in jail for rape!

A 17 year old boy has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for raping three younger boys in Katlehong, south of Ekurhuleni recently.

The first incident took place two years ago, at an open field at Extension 9 Katlehong South, where the accused teen raped a nine year old boy who was sent by his grandmother to her aunt to borrow cash, but never come back in time. About a month later, the teen struck again at Extension 20, where he raped a 10 year old. The victim was sent by his mother to buy soft-drink at a local spaza shop but only to come back crying because of the pains he endured while being raped. A few days passed after the second incident at Extension 20, the young perpetrator went to Vosloorus where he, for the third time, raped an eight year old boy. It’s reported that he forcefully dragged the little one while he was playing with his peers and sexually assaulted him. “Through thorough investigations and dedication by the Investigating

ment in charge of early childhood development!

Social Development Minister, Lindiwe Zulu, says the handover of the Early Childhood Development (ECD) function to the Department of Basic Education is an opportunity to start dismantling intergenerational poverty in the country. “As the history of the ECD sector has been unfolding since the dawn of our democracy, working within inclusive intergovernmental coordinating mechanisms, and in consultation with the sector, the children and parents, the departments of Social Development and Basic Education are continuing to shape this sector’s outcomes. “The golden thread that weaves the ECD sector together is the importance of our ECD practitioners, inclusive of ECD teachers, administrators and support staff,” said Zulu at a ceremony to mark the handover recently. The handover is a culmination of years of work and cooperation from stakeholders from the two departments. Ahead of the ceremony, Basic Education Minister, Angie Motshekga, had said the function shift would go a long way in improving the national education outcomes. “The migration of ECD provides us an opportunity to craft and implement innovative strategies to strengthen foundational learning, looking at the continuum from birth to early grades,” said the minister. -Mapepeza Reporter

General Fanie Masemola is Mzansi’s new Top Cop! President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced Sehlahle Fannie Masemola as the new National Police Commissioner.

Masemola carries the baton from General Khehla Sitole, who vacated the position on Thursday (March 31) after reaching mutual consent with the President in February. Making the announcement during an address to the nation on Thursday, President Ramaphosa said he believes Masemola is a “fit and proper” person for the role. He said General Masemola has been a Deputy Police Commissioner with an outstanding record of achievements in policing across South Africa. This, he said, included helping with the de-escalation of violence in KwaZulu-Natal after the first democratic elections in 1994, where he was stationed. Masemola also brings to this position his experience in drastically reducing cash-intransit crimes in the period around 2016. The incoming Commissioner also played a leading role in coordinating security for all elections since 1994 and all major events hosted by the country. Most recently, the General served

the country as the chairperson of the National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (NatJOINTS) on COVID-19, which coordinated government’s efforts across different sectors nationally and internationally. The President said the weight of the nation’s expectation resting on the Commissioner’s shoulders would only be matched by the amount of the support government would place at his disposal. The President also called on South Africans to offer support to the National Commissioner. “We can only eradicate crime if we work together,” he said. -Mapepeza Reporter

Sports Inqaku is sponsoring kit to 200 local teams! MYSAFA’s development and operations partner, Inqaku is sponsoring a full set of kit to 200 SAFA-affiliated football teams.

This initiative aims to encourage adoption of MYSAFA and Inqaku’s funeral insurance product that gives back to football. Clubs are rewarded an amount equal to 10% of the premium for policies purchased by their supporters. These rewards are made available to the club every month and can be used to buy additional kit, equipment and FIFA-accredited player registrations. Club-branded supporter goods that can be purchased and resold by clubs for a profit will be available soon.
