MANAGING EDITORIAL Christmas time is once again upon us. I’d like to wish all our readers a Merry Christmas and thank all our contributors throughout 2013 who made it possible for Phenomena Magazine to continue their work providing free information to interested parties around the globe. 2014 is set to be a busy one with several lectures and events around the United Kingdom. Its also a rather sad time at the moment as our good friend Lloyd Pye passed away after battling aggressive Cancer on December 10th. Lloyd was best known for his humour and fascinating lectures about the Starchild Skull, the Intervention Theory and Hominoids. He will dearly be missed by many. We commemorate Lloyds work in this issue and send our condolences to his family. We hope you enjoy our Christmas issue and look forward to a productive 2014.

EDITORIAL As you may recall I was invited to speak at the recent Scottish Society for Psychical Research (SSPR) conference in Glasgow on the 9th of November, which I did, and what a thoroughly enjoyable experience it was. As it happens I also signed up some new readers for the magazine as well: you know who you are!! There were four speakers, and for me the two stand-outs (modesty forbids me from including my own contribution) were Anthony Peake and Geoff Holder. Tony Peake spoke with remarkable fluency and great passion about the subject of consciousness and how it now seems certain that consciousness has to be interlinked with absolutely everything in the universe and perhaps beyond. It was most satisfying to learn that someone else shares my views on this matter. He also mentioned the remarkable ‘Lucia’, a device that uses light to bring about altered states of awareness, as you may imagine I intend to keep in touch. Geoff is a seasoned author (currently living in France) and, amongst other things, spoke about vampires and especially how in the early 1950’s they had supposedly manifested in Glasgow’s Southern Necropolis, which is a splendidly atmospheric cemetery a stones throw from Glasgow Cathedral, your editor actually remembers this when it happened, but then again I’m getting on a bit. The other speaker, Professor Peter Maxwell-Stuart, delivered an informative talk on the history of poltergeists. Me? Well OK, I spoke about one of my books, ‘The Dark Messiah’, which describes in detail how religion, gnosis, and magick are one and the same thing with near identical roots. I have to say that, if the feedback I got is anything to go by, it went down well too. One last thing, the SSPR intends to bring the Lucia device and its designers, Dr. Engelbert Winkler and Dr. Dirk Proeckl, to Glasgow if the funds can be found. That would be a demonstration well worth seeing.

Can we believe the accounts of crashed UFOs?: From Roswell to Central Park By Sean Casteel

In a new book from Global Communications called “The Case For UFO Crashes: From Urban Legend To Reality,” author and pub‐ lisher Timothy Green Beckley argues that the many stories and rumors about the UFO crash phenomenon are basically true and that the government is hiding its knowledge of that truth because of National Security concerns. And just how does Beckley make his case? By a combination of both anecdotal evi‐ dence – the stories that are told about the numerous crash incidents – and with evi‐ dence of a more concrete kind – actual gov‐ ernment documents that have been leaked or obtained through Freedom of Information Act requests. At this point, it may be rele‐ vant to say something in defense of anecdo‐ tal evidence. Budd Hopkins, the late abduc‐ tion researcher, once stated that while no one has ever provided absolute proof that UFOs and their attendant phenomena are real, nevertheless there is plenty of evi‐ dence, the kind of evidence that would con‐ vince any jury in any courtroom that the UFOs did indeed exist and represented an alien or otherworldly technology. Hopkins went on to say that ALL evidence presented in a trial is itself anecdotal. For instance, when the prosecution presents DNA evidence against a defendant, the jury never actually “sees” the DNA evidence. What they get instead is a law enforcement DNA expert telling them a “story” about that evidence. In other words, all the jury really has to go on is the anecdotal testimony of a scientist, the spoken words of an allegedly credible spokesperson who “talks” about the evidence in an attempt to bolster the prose‐ cution’s case. So it is with the UFO phe‐ nomenon. We often have only the stories people tell to go on, but ignoring those sto‐ ries is a self‐defeating way to close our eyes to some very important truths. In “The Case For UFO Crashes,” convincing anecdotal evidence abounds, sometimes from sources that command our respect and are seemingly beyond reproach. Beckley writes about the late astronaut Gordon Coo‐ per, who stated publicly that he first en‐ countered UFOs in the 1950s while he served as a jet fighter pilot stationed in Ger‐ many. He and his comrades‐in‐arms wit‐ nessed an over‐flight of strange objects that

could stop on a dime and make 90‐degree turns in the middle of their flight paths. Coo‐ per later said that reports of crashed UFOs seemed credible to him and the entire sub‐ ject warranted further study. Beckley also quotes movie producer Peter Kares, who claimed to have known an ex‐Air Force pilot who was at the scene when a crashed disc was carted away. “Later, he was harassed,” Kares said, “sent to a psychiatrist and nearly drummed out of the service because he refused to sign a pledge that he would never talk about what he had inadvertently seen. We were even able to talk with a full colonel who claims he saw with his own eyes a UFO that was being kept in storage. In one case we investigated, motion picture footage was taken of several UFOs traveling along at speeds upwards of 10,000 miles per hour.” When Kares fol‐ lowed up on what he had heard, he was told by the government that no such film existed, which the producer attributes to the govern‐ ment’s not wishing to cause panic in the streets. Beckley also provides a fascinating retelling of the Frank Scully story. Scully was a Holly‐ wood reporter who found out about a sau‐ cer crash said to have happened in Aztec, New Mexico, in 1948 that left several alien corpses behind. The resulting scramble by the military and FBI to cover up the incident and discredit Scully and his sources makes for an interesting case history of just what happens in the wake of a UFO crash. (To learn more about Scully and to read the book he wrote about the Aztec crash, read the Global Communications bestseller “Behind The Flying Saucers, Updated Edi‐ tion.”) In chapter after chapter of “The Case For UFO Crashes,” Beckley recounts the details of his own investigations into the phenomenon. The many leads he followed up on, the extensive correspondence and phone calls with witnesses and others privy to information on the subject, as well as the dead ends when important sources would apparently die or simply disappear along with whatever proof they had hidden away from their relentless pursuers. Beckley’s tireless, dogged pursuit of the truth pro‐ duced no dramatic “smoking gun,” but it does serve as evidence that something is going on, that the tip of an iceberg of infor‐ mation is undeniably there.

One of the more fascinating stories told in “The Case For UFO Crashes” came to Beck‐ ley when he was in Florida doing media appearances to promote his now defunct magazine, “UFO Review.” One of his regular correspondents told Beckley about a health food store owner in Orlando, Florida, who made an important discovery in 1977. While jogging across the United States to promote exercise and fitness, John Peele discovered what he thought was a UFO crash site near the California desert town of Octotillo, a short distance from the Mexican border. “There, jutting up out of the de‐ sert,” Peele told Beckley, “were several large pieces of what resembled Plexiglas.” Peele had served in Vietnam as an army helicopter pilot and knew immediately that the Plexiglas was not from any earthly mili‐ tary aircraft. He also discovered pieces of lightweight metal similar to aluminum that were honeycombed on one side and re‐ fused to bend as such a light metal should. But the real surprise was Peele’s finding a glove similar to the pressurized gloves worn by our high‐altitude test pilots and astro‐ nauts. This would not be too unusual ex‐ cept for the fact that the glove was in

Roswell UFO Crash. The Roswell UFO incident took place in the U.S. in 1947, when an airborne object crashed on a ranch near Ros‐ well, New Mexico. Explanations of what took place are based on both official and unoffi‐ cial communica‐ tions. Although the crash is attrib‐ uted to a secret U.S. military Air Force surveillance balloon the most famous explana‐ tion of what occurred is that the object was a spacecraft con‐ taining extrater‐ restrial life. Since the late 1970s, the Roswell inci‐ dent has been the subject of much controversy, and conspiracy theo‐ ries. Wikipedia.

Kecksburg UFO Crash The Kecksburg UFO incident occurred on De‐ cember 9, 1965, at Kecksburg, Penn‐ sylvania, USA. A large, brilliant fireball was seen by thousands in at least six U.S. states and On‐ tario, Canada. It streaked over the Detroit, Michigan/ Windsor, Ontario area, reportedly dropped hot metal debris over Michi‐ gan and northern Ohio, starting some grass fires and caused sonic booms in Western Pennsylvania. It was generally assumed and reported by the press to be a meteor after authorities dis‐ counted other proposed explana‐ tions such as a plane crash, errant missile test, or reentering satellite debris. However, eyewit‐ nesses in the small village of Kecks‐ burg, about 30 miles southeast of Pittsburgh, claimed A UFO crashed in the woods. Not long afterwards mili‐ tary personnel turned up, closed off the location and retrieved the object by placing it onto a flatbed truck and driving it away. Wikipedia

miniature, as if it were intended to be worn by a child. “Of course, children do not pilot high‐altitude planes,” Beckley writes, “nor does the government allow individuals un‐ der a certain size to join the service, ruling out that the glove might have been manu‐ factured for a midget.” Peele found another glove a few feet away, but that one appeared to have been badly burned in the crash. Since Peele was jogging at the time, it was impossible for him to cart the material away, so he buried it with the intention of returning later in his vehicle to retrieve it. However, when he attempted to go and reclaim the artifacts, a peculiar storm came up, rendering the desert skies pitch black, a phenomenon unknown to even the locals. All Peele managed to return to Flor‐ ida with was the badly burned glove, which he felt surely had to have been designed for a small, humanoid saucer pilot. The thumb on the glove was not positioned correctly for a space‐faring primate, such as the monkeys sent into orbit in the early days of our space program. The thumb was posi‐ tioned higher up, indicating it was most likely worn by a more advanced species than a chimp‐astronaut. The glove was double‐ stitched, unlike anything issued by our mili‐ tary, and appeared to zip from the inside. The word “Large” in English was stamped on the innermost layer of material in the glove, but given that it was half the size of what would be worn by a normal human, this appeared to be another indication that the pressurized glove was not manufactured by our earthly military. Representatives from Martin‐Marietta, NASA, and Rockwell International have all examined the glove and reached no definite conclusions, at least none they were willing to pass along to Peele. When the movie “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” opened in late 1977, Peele offered the glove to a local movie house to put on display. The theater at first accepted his offer but then quickly declined, saying it might frighten moviegoers expecting to see only a work of science‐fiction. Peele remains convinced that the glove is some kind of outer‐space artifact and that the remains of a crashed saucer are likely still buried beneath the shifting sands in the California desert where he first discovered the mysterious debris. As further crash lore, there is of course the well‐known belief that the government con‐ ceals a great deal of evidence in Hangar 18 at Wright‐Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio, or alternately, in a location on the base called “The Blue Room.” The late Arizona senator, Barry Goldwater, openly declared that, “I have never gained access to the so‐ called ‘Blue Room’ at Wright‐Patterson, so I have no idea what is in it.

Page 3 Phenomena Magazine: December 2013 - Issue 56: www.phenomenamagazine.co.uk

I have no idea of who controls the flow of need‐to‐know information because, frankly, I was told in such an emphatic way that it was none of my business that I’ve never tried to make it my business since.” One wonders if Goldwater’s diplomatic use of the phrase “emphatic way” is a euphe‐ mism for some kind of violent threat. Just what lengths do the secret‐keepers go to in order to maintain their hold on UFO infor‐ mation? Who, if any, among our elected officials are ever told what the military is concealing in terms of crashed UFOs, alien bodies, or anything else to do with the phe‐ nomenon? Former president Bill Clinton stated on at least two occasions that he was denied access to classified information both on the Roswell incident and alien‐related activity at Area 51 in Nevada. The book also contains additional anecdotal evidence, stories that sound like science fiction but have been handed down through various sources as true. There is the night a UFO came crashing down over an Ohio shopping mall, for example, or the unbeliev‐ able eyewitness account of a UFO that fell inside New York City’s bustling Central Park after being shot at by the military. One story details the rescue of a living alien from a downed spaceship as it rested on a military runway in New Jersey. The UFO pilot later died in captivity, but not before witnesses saw what happened and eventually went forward with the story. Allegedly there exist photos of an entity named “Tomato Man,” another crashed UFOnaut, photos that to this day have never been satisfactorily ex‐ plained. As promised, “The Case For UFO Crashes” also contains a prodigious amount of gov‐ ernment documents from the files of the Department of Defense, the FBI, and even a bizarrely named agency called “The Inter‐ planetary Phenomenon Unit.” The reader can see actual files written by – and corre‐ spondence between – members of the mili‐ tary and various intelligence agents as they struggle with responding to the alien pres‐ ence while at the same time keeping the truth from the very citizenry they are sworn to uphold and serve. The reprinted documents, including the legendary Majestic‐12 material, are numer‐ ous and too many to go into detail about here. The book also includes an interview I did with Ryan Wood, a researcher, investiga‐ tor and author who has made a career, alongside his father Robert, of vetting and authenticating leaked government docu‐ ments on UFOs as well as others obtained through FOIA requests, but their main em‐ phasis is on the MJ‐12 papers. The younger Wood’s interest in UFOs began at age 15, when his father brought well‐known UFO

At the time, Friedman worked for Robert Wood at the McDonnell‐Douglas aeronautics company researching antigrav‐ ity. As an adult, Wood says he now special‐ izes in analyzing documents while ignoring other aspects of UFOlogy. “We don’t do abductions,” he said. “We don’t do lights in the sky. We don’t do anything other than military and intelligence history as it relates to the Majestic documents. That’s our fo‐ cus.” In the interview, Wood tells the story of how the MJ‐12 documents were initially obtained when Navy and Marines veteran Timothy Cooper began to receive portions of them in his mail; Cooper has since amassed the largest collection of MJ‐12 documents and original Blue Book files in the United States. It is not clear why Cooper was chosen as a conduit of the leaked files, another mystery to add to the already large pile. As of when the interview with Wood was conducted, the flow of documents to Cooper continued, giving the Woods and their team plenty to keep them busy. Woods offered one particular document as an example. “One document that is very interesting,” he said, “is called The Interplanetary Phe‐ nomenon Unit Document, and it’s an intelli‐ gence summary. It’s a draft, an assessment. It has fourteen points. It was written on 22 July 1947, after the team went to the Ros‐ well area to deal with some of the crashes.” The document is very specific, detailing the longitude and latitude of Mack Brazel’s ranch, where the Roswell debris was strewn over a wide area, and pinpoints the location of a second crash near Socorro, New Mex‐ ico, around that same time. Meanwhile, Wood is confident that the saucer crash documents are not “disinformation” or

“psychological warfare,” saying he doesn’t think that over the long haul it would be to our government’s advantage to use fake documents simply to lie to us, our allies or even our enemies. Somehow, backstage and under a heavy covering of secrecy and classi‐ fication, a real life drama is being acted out that supersedes any attempt to deceive those outside the loop. Given that UFO crashes happen on a world‐ wide basis, resulting in many headaches for governments both allied and “hostile” to the United States, the question must be asked, are the aliens simply inept pilots of their own spacecraft? “That’s another good ques‐ tion,” Wood responded. “Why do they crash? I’m speculating. The data shows that there are crashes. I think it has to do with the human anthropomorphic view of the alien agenda. We think they don’t want to crash. We value human life. We rescue our pilots from the ocean or from behind enemy lines. These alien bodies are disposable, biological robots that are like toilet paper to us. Their mission in the universe is to hop from galaxy to galaxy, star system to star system, gather information and move on. “And they may be less well‐equipped than with a mother‐ship for interstellar space. They may be using something more like a scout ship, and when they encounter radar or some freak lighting bolt, they malfunction and have a problem. “Then of course there’s the deliberate thought – that they’re crash‐ ing on purpose, because it helps man de‐ velop new technologies and advances our civilization without shocking us.

engineering.” It’s hard to imagine the UFO crashes are intentional and have the benign purpose Wood is talking about, but one quickly learns when studying UFOs that nearly anything is possible. Wood feels some of the documents may be leaked by people who regard it as a matter of conscience to do their part in revealing the UFO phenomenon to the world.

advance of global humanity by scores of years. “What they did,” he continued, “which is hide it all, forced a few cloistered scientists working in secret to push the ball down the field with a paperclip instead of hitting it with a baseball bat. That’s really the great crime, that they’ve hidden the technology and the evidence and thwarted the standards of civilization.” In the interview with Wood, he also specu‐ lates on the assassination of JFK and the mysterious death of Marilyn Monroe as being connected to MJ‐12. Were the two murdered to prevent them from going pub‐ lic with what they knew about UFOs and the government cover‐up? Such questions continue to haunt us regardless of the fact that they may seem ridiculous on the sur‐ face, even crazy or in the category of “fringe beliefs.” Still, what Timothy Green Beckley has achieved in “The Case For UFO Crashes: From Urban Legend To Reality” deserves an open‐minded look. There are any number of reasons that flying saucers come hurtling from the sky, and just as many reasons for the truth of that to be withheld from us. The HPI Chronicles: Zecharia Sitchin on my Mind By Paul Dale Roberts

The HPI Chronicles: Zecharia Sitchin on my Mind By Paul Dale Roberts

It's Friday night and the preliminary investigation I had organised for the very haunted Ione Hotel was cancelled tonight. It's Friday, September 26, 2008 and I am off work with an itch. An itch that only a ghost‐hunter knows. An itch to investigate, to discover the truth, to hunt for answers. But, it's not going to happen tonight. So, instead I head over to the very haunted Elk Grove Brewery. a place that I have investigated before. A place in which red eyes were seen in the woman's bathroom and followed a woman patron from the bathroom to the dining area, causing her to run in panic and scream. As a ghost‐hunting gumshoe I am sit‐ ting on the bar, drinking a Pepsi. Yeah, I have to have a clear mind in case any activity acts up at the Elk Grove Brew‐ ery. Christopher Correa the owner recognizes me and comes over to shake my hand and talk about the in‐ vestigation that I did a while back. Before I knew it, his customers were listening to the story and I was passing out my HPI business cards to everyone. A beautiful blonde with slender long legs is sitting next to me; she intro‐ duces herself as Sarah Bradley. She tells me she is into plant science at UC Davis. I discover she is fascinated with my ghost‐hunting sleuthing and asks me all kinds of questions. By the time we finished talking she was willing to bring her boyfriend along on a scouting mission. Sarah's girlfriend next to her was all excited about going on a ghost scouting mission too. I told them, all they have to do is get on my email list. As I was talking with Sarah...my mind start wandering off and I shifted the conversation from ghosts to the planet Nibiru. Could author Zecharia Sitchin be right? Is it possible that the Sumer‐ ians recorded the actual events of extraterrestrials known as Anunnaki? Let's go back 450,000 years ago. Planet X known as Nibiru is in dire danger. The atmosphere on this planet is eroding. Anunnaki scouts discover Earth and set up the first Earth station to explore Earth. The Anunnaki discover that Earth has gold. Gold will enable the Annunaki to protect the atmosphere of their own planet. The mining for gold commences. Enki leads this expedition of extraterrestrial gold miners. Enki is the proud son of Anu. As the gold is extracted from Earth, the Annunaki are tired of the continuous mining. Enlil (Enki's half brother) asks Enki to create a slave

race to mine the gold. Then about 300,000 years ago Enki and Ninharsag (both extraterrestrial scientists) create some primitive workers to mine the gold on Earth. These primitive workers through DNA manipulation become Homo Sapiens. Guess what? They start multiplying. They become rebellious and Enlil doesn't like Enki's creation. 100,000 years ago, the male Anunnaki started to favour the women slaves and mating started to take place. Some of these women slaves became the wives of the Annunaki gods. When Enlil discovers this, he is very upset. Now you have hybrids that are part Homo Sapiens and half Annunaki. Perhaps this is where legends like Hercules originate from. Hercules was known to have been half god and half man.

Then 11,000 years ago, Enlil can no longer tolerate the Homo sapiens and orders a deluge, a flood to wipe out mankind. Enki loves his creation and persuades Ziusudra a.k.a Noah to build an ark, in that way mankind can still continue to live on and breed and populate the Earth. Then around 3450 BC, the Homo Sapiens faced the Tower of Babel Issue, in which they no longer could speak the same language and their languages were all switched around, so they could no longer communicate with

each other and would separate into different tribes. Somehow with all of the turmoil in which gods vs other gods and extraterrestrial wars were being carried out, the final conflict became nuclear and it befell Sodom and Go‐ morrah. It is so amazing to me that so many cultures and religions have similar sto‐ ries and the gods that they mention are similar to other gods from other religions and cultures. These stories parallel so close to the bible. These stories were written before the bible even existed. Either the Sumerians and other cultures were great science fic‐ tion writers or they were telling the truth and Zecharia Sitchin places their stories in perspective. If I were Mr. Spock on the USS Enter‐ prise and heard this story I would say to the Captain: "this story appears logical Captain".

By the time I finish wrapping up my story with Sarah Bradley, I notice she is yawning and she politely tells me she must depart. I watch Sarah and her girlfriend exit the door while the band plays 'I Can't Get No Satisfaction' by the Rolling Stones. I turn around on my bar stool and continue to think about the fascinating wisdom of Zecharia Sitchin...

Zecharia Sitchin. Zecharia was an Azerbaijani‐ born American author of books proposing an explanation for human origins involving an‐ cient astronauts. Sitchin attrib‐ utes the creation of the ancient Sumerian culture to the Anun‐ naki, which he states was a race of extraterrestrials from a planet beyond Neptune called Nibiru. He believed this hypo‐ thetical planet of Nibiru to be in an elongated, elliptical orbit in the Earth's own Solar Sys‐ tem, asserting that Sumerian mythology reflects this view. Sitchin's books have sold millions of copies worldwide and have been translated into more than 25 languages. Sitchin's ideas have been rejected by scientists and academics, who dismiss his work as pseudoscience and pseudohistory. His work has been criticised for flawed methodology and mistransla‐ tions of ancient texts as well as for incorrect astronomical and scientific claims. Debates continue…

FEATURED BOOKS BY BRIAN ALLAN

December 3 - New Moon. The Moon will be directly between the Earth and the Sun and will not be visible from Earth. This phase occurs at 00:22 UTC. This is the best time of the month to observe faint objects such as galaxies and star clusters because there is no moonlight to interfere. December 13, 14 - Geminids Meteor Shower. The Geminids is the king of the meteor showers. It is considered by many to be the best shower in the heavens, producing up to 120 multicoloured meteors per hour at its peak. It is produced by debris left behind by an asteroid known as 3200 Phaethon, which was discovered in 1982. The shower runs annually from December 7-17. It peaks this year on the night of the 13th and morning of the 14th. The waxing gibbous moon will block out some of the meteors this year, but the Geminids are so bright and numerous that it should still be a good show. Best viewing will be from a dark location after midnight. Meteors will radiate from the constellation Gemini, but can appear anywhere in the sky. December 17 - Full Moon. The Moon will be directly opposite the Earth from the Sun and will be fully illuminated as seen from Earth. This phase occurs at 09:28 UTC. This full moon was known by early Native American tribes as the Full Cold Moon because this is the time of year when the cold winter air settles in and the nights become long and dark. This moon has also been known as the Moon Before Yule and the Full Long Nights Moon. December 21 - December Solstice. The December solstice occurs at 17:11 UTC. The South Pole of the earth will be tilted toward the Sun, which will have reached its southernmost position in the sky and will be directly over the Tropic of Capricorn at 23.44 degrees south latitude. This is the first day of winter (winter solstice) in the Northern Hemisphere and the first day of summer (summer solstice) in the Southern Hemisphere. December 21, 22 - Ursids Meteor Shower. The Ursids is a minor meteor shower producing only about 5-10 meteors per hour. It is produced by dust grains left behind by comet Tuttle, which was first discovered in 1790. The shower runs annually from December 17-25. It peaks this year on the night of the 21st. This year the second quarter moon will be bright enough to hide all but the brightest meteors. If you are patient, you might still be able to catch a few good ones. Best viewing will be just after midnight from a dark location far away from city lights. Meteors will radiate from the constellation Ursa Minor, but can appear anywhere in the sky. December 24-25 – Large, red coated bearded man will be observed in a sledge-like craft being pulled through the sky by several snorting reindeer, may be heard to shout, ‘Ho, Ho, Ho’. Beware of falling gifts. MERRY CHRSTMAS!!

The Nazi / Satanic Axis - Part 3 By Jonathon Tapsell

It was clear that N. did not hold with the ideas of either Gurdjieff or Madam Blavatsky and rejected the notion of the guiding hand of a demiurgic force to mankind’s destiny. This is the opposite to my own view concerning the phe‐ nomenon of occulture. He rejected too, the notion of a Right‐Hand path and stated that only the sinister path or Left Hand Path had validity. Synagogues, Churches, New Age shops, even other Satanic groups were enslaving men not freeing them. Men, N said, must become Promethean rising up to claim their rightful place among the Dark Gods. Again this slip of the tongue be‐ trayed many secrets, he had unwittingly crossed between Balder‐speak into pure ONA and was now quoting directly from their manual. Men must con‐ quer addictions, fear, political programming in order to inherit their natural hegemony. It was a rousing address worthy of a leader, not unlike the type speech Colonel Collins later gave to his men before entering Iraq. I had come to like N. in many ways, but there was no getting away from he was straying very close to saying he agreed with the ONA. The tiny room was becoming darker and the shadows lengthened into crazy angles across the books and low coffee table, a natural ambience perhaps in line with the conversation. Discarding any prelude or verbose preamble N. asked me directly did I think he was the leader of the ONA? He said this with‐ out a hint of malice or intimidation, the mirage had finally disappeared and the oasis was in sight for the first time. I answered honestly that everything that I had seen and heard had convinced me he was the secret head of the ONA. His ambiguous reply will stay with me always, a fitting close to the eight‐hour interview. Strangely I was not tired in the least, but felt quite elated. N saw me to the garden gate and we parted on good terms and rather graciously he invited me to return in the future. I thanked him for receiving me and turned and walked into the remaining rays of the May sun. To this day the chief of the ONA has never been unmasked, nor has its leader ever come forward; he or she remains faceless and unknown. Several people have been put in the frame but no conclusive evidence has ever stuck to them. N’s words linger hauntingly etched in my memory “Then I think you have your answer then”. Ripples in the Pond The Western Governments formed the Gladio network during the Cold War era. This secret force was trained to act as a last ditch resistance should a country be invaded by a foreign power. Individuals recruited into the force were taught the necessary skills that would be useful to a resist‐ance net‐ work. Elite soldiers from Special Forces taught escape & evasion tactics, out‐ door survival techniques, unarmed combat and the production and use of explosives. Gladio would hamper enemy forces by causing disruption to com‐ munications and supplies and continue to resist until killed or captured. The members of the force would not be officially recognised and continue to live their ordinary lives unless activated in the event that a foreign power ever breached their soil. Little more is known about Gladio for obvious reasons of secrecy. Although information on Gladio is scarce the recruitment methods are a mystery it has since transpired the network recruited some very un‐ pleasant people. One unfortunate induction into the British force was alleged to have been a certain David Myatt. Of all the members of the Nazi/Satanic Axis Myatt is by far the most interesting and versatile. He has often been named as the main author of the ONA material. Born in the late 1940’s, to an upper middle class family, Myatt enjoyed the wealth, privilege and position of the last days of the Empire. His father worked for the British Government in colonial Tanzania. Myatt attended public school in East Africa and later in the Far East. These early impressions fell on the diminutive, red haired boy, leaving him with a life long yearning for travel and adventure. In his mid teens Myatt returned to England where he began to take an active interest in the writings of the Third Reich and another long‐term interest developed in him, his love of National Socialism. At once he read voraciously on all subjects connection with Hitler and the Nazis. Here he attached great importance to the Nazi ideal of ‘Loyalty, Hon‐ our and Duty’. Whether he was aware of the occult leaning of the Third Reich

is not known but he is said to have immersed himself in a study of Himmler’s SS. Soon reading and thinking were not enough and the young man went in search of like minded folk. He crossed paths with Colin Jordan, the leader of the World Union of National Social‐ists who would later launch the militant British Movement.

Myatt became deeply committed to the politics of the Far Right. His restless location, farther from the volcano, not long of before the Dutch colonists set‐ lack of and powerful intellect soon became tired the endless squabbles, tled in that part of central Flores in the mid 19th century. Returning to England once more he re‐entered the politics of the Far Right, espousing what he believed was a new vital approach to National Socialism. His detractors recognised it as a reworking of Hitler’s ‘Blood and Soil’ ap‐ proach to Nazism. Essentially he was trying to inject the ‘Volkish’ philosophy that had built the original Nazi Party. His ideas contained both a political and spiritual aspect, tying together racial heritage, Fatherland and natural laws by which men could live by. Compared to anyone on the Far Right at that time or since, Myatt’s approach contained great depth but it his lack of the com‐ mon touch that led to one of his most spectacular failures. Acting with fanatical zeal Myatt, along with close friend Richard Molt (ONA author Christos Beest), founded an organic farm, worked by traditional agri‐ cultural methods, i.e. heavy horses drawing ploughs and tilling the land by hand. This farm was to be a social experiment to educate new followers of Nazism. His vision went slightly awry as the skinheads from Welwyn Garden City, once deprived of their diet of junk food, TV and football violence melted away as quickly as they had come. Shrewd political pundits would have rec‐ ognised immediately that the arduous, plain life style on the farm would not attract most working class people to whom hard work and austerity was a yoke and unwanted way of life. His involvement with another better known, longer lasting project was the Order of Nine Angles. The precise date of the groups inception varies accord‐ ing to different sources but could be placed anywhere between 1975 to 1982. It is generally regarded as being founded in the 1980’s. Both Myatt and his fellow organic farmer Christos Beest, are credited with writing a large amount of the ritual material, and although several pseudonyms have been used suspicion fell on Myatt almost immediately. Major Michael Aquino, leader of the quasi‐Satanic Temple of Set, exposed the authorship of the ONA material. Maj. Aquino a trained intelligence officer of the US Army (Psy Ops) took issue with the ONA over its racist, violent content. He compared type written letters from the various contributors of the ONA and concluded that they were in fact all typed on the same machine: ergo same author. Hence‐ forth, all ties were severed between the two groups and Temple of Set mem‐ bers were banned from even contacting the ONA for any reason.

During 1985 Myatt’s involvement with Satanism reached the ears of the Far Right. Fearing a backlash Myatt immediately retired from politics once more, but this time embraced the world of Buddhism. This unpredictable path re‐ peats itself several times in Myatt’s life, as a new spiritual calling takes this enigmatic character away from further scrutiny. A seven‐year gap saw Myatt, the Buddhist recluse, re‐emerge from the shadows to begin writing fresh Page 17 Phenomena Magazine: December 2013 - Issue 56: www.phenomenamagazine.co.uk

commentary for a fascist publication The Oak. These articles were noted for their forthrightness, earning Myatt a reputation for well‐written, contentious commentaries that attracted new political allies. These writings poured forth once more becoming a raging torrent —Myatt contributed to 30 issues of a National Socialist newsletter. Many of these pieces were written under various pseudonyms, a xxx habit that is central to Myatt’s work in all spheres. Some of these contributions were of an ex‐ tremely revolutionary nature and called for a breakdown of society and urged National Socialists to conduct a Holy War against anyone who stood in their way. In this last respect Myatt’s name was tentatively linked to Herve Guttuso, a French Nazi living in the UK. Simultaneously Police raids on both men, led Myatt to withdraw once more resigning his new post as leader of the National Socialist Movement. Shortly after this incident both Searchlight and a investigative journalist from the BBC went after the Nazi/Satanist. The BBC waylaid him whilst cycling away from his home, but the pint‐sized pugilist answered with a polite ‘No comment’. Myatt laments in a later article on the Internet that the documen‐ tary team had acted in an un‐Aryan manner; the BBC should have had a face‐ to‐face discussion with him (unrecorded) and listened to his side of the argu‐ ment first. One wonders whether he extended the same Aryan courtesy to those who he viciously attacked in the 1970’s, with the aid of a gang. In 1999 after the arrest of the London Nail Bomber David Copeland, I was tipped‐off that he had been a member of Myatt’s National Socialist Move‐ ment. Later I came across a book called Mr Evil by Graeme McLagan and Searchlight editor Nick Lowles. Mr Evil explores this connection at length. Copeland, then aged 29, had unleashed three separate attacks in the capital killing three people and injuring over a hundred. The targets were blacks and gays. His favoured method was to detonate homemade nail bombs. After his arrest the authorities were quick to paint him a lone, psychotic killer with a warped agenda. This picture of Copeland is not entirely accurate, as we shall see. It would be true to say that the hapless, socially dysfunctional Copeland had few friends but he was in fact the NSW co‐ordinator for Hampshire and Wilt‐ shire, enjoying some standing in the Party. He was a regular recipient of Na‐ tional Socialist Movement material and very active in the Far Right world. The book Mr Evil mentions his visit to an army pub in Aldershot despite being a teetotaller. It is known that at least two soldiers in the Parachute Regiment based in the town were also NSM members. Here the authors hint darkly location, farther from the volcano, not long before Dutch colonists set‐in that someone with bomb making knowl‐edge must the have aided Copeland tled in that part of central Flores in the mid 19th century. McLagan sent a letter to Copeland asking about the White Wolves connection but forensic psychiatrist Dr Payne suppressed this. Mean‐ while Copeland was forcibly given medication which severely reduced his powers of concentration. Copeland’s parents commented that their son did not seem to want to talk and seemed distant. The drugs had begun to de‐ stroy Copeland. Had Broadmoor created the lone, psychotic that the authori‐ ties so desperately wanted to portray? McLagan noted discrepancies between the authorities insistence that he was not fit to discuss the White Wolves with a journalist but fit enough to stand trial. Whilst in Broadmoor Copeland signed one of his letters with the initials WW. It was assumed that Copeland used this was an abbreviation for the White Wolves. Eventually McLagan successfully appealed against the high handed methods of Broadmoor and gained access to the accused man. By that time Copeland had been subjected to months of mind‐altering medica‐ tion. The bomber had become totally unsuitable to be interviewed. Examin‐ ing this part of Mr Evil was of deep interest to me because of the White Wolves reference, which was reminiscent of the ONA material posted on the Internet. Initiates of the ONA would work in secret cells rather like terrorists to carry out their sinister missions. As was seen earlier the wolf features heavily in the mythos of the ONA, their journal Fenrir was named after the wolf of Norse legend. It is quite conceivable that the authorities did not want an unsuspecting public to have to contemplate the horrific idea of White Wolf terrorist cells allied with serving Special Forces operatives under the command of a of a trained resistance fighter – a specialist in urban warfare. A leader whose aim is to bring about a glorious Nazi revolution with covert Satanic undertones or is it that simple? More Bombs For London? July 7th 2005, saw the London morning rush hour turn from a sea of com‐ muters travelling contently to work into a scene of carnage and terror. Four separate explosions went off just before 9 am targeted commuters on both the underground tube system with the fourth bomb exploding on a London bus. Areas affected were the following: Russell Square tube station, Edgware Road tube station, the tube system between Aldgate and Liverpool Street and lastly Tavistock Square in Holborn. Anti terror police can only estimated those killed as approximately 50 souls with over 700 injured. Victims of the attack will remain maimed or psychologically scarred forever as a result of the callous bombings. Londoners who escaped the immediate danger of the blast were plunged into a day of chaos with train and bus services sus‐ pended, mobile phone networks out of action and scores of commuters stranded. Scenes reminiscent of disaster films such as the crossing of thou‐ sands of commuters on empty bridges where traffic once dominated shocked a nation. Police and Emergency services struggled to cope with the chaos of multiple explosions. It was every Londoner’s worst nightmare comes true—a massive terrorist attack had finally happened. Relatives across Britain desper‐ ately clung onto news of friends and family who were living, working or trav‐ elling through the capital that day. The mobile phone network crashed. His‐ tory was to record July 7th, a devastatingly black day for British history. Speculation was rife. The IRA was immediately discounted and whispers be‐ gan that it was an Islamic cell connected to the Al Qaeda terror organisation. Within two days Police began to gradually drip‐feed information that were investigating a theory that the bombers were from the Leeds area. By the 12th of July one report confirmed. “The investigation quite early led us to have concerns about the movements and activities of four men, three of whom came from the West Yorkshire area,” said Peter Clarke, head of the anti‐terrorist branch of London’s Metropolitan Police. An unnamed Police source in the same article told of looking at the large Muslim population in the area. More information began to percolate through to public consciousness that an Islamic website had blamed another organisation closely connected with Al Qaeda for the attack. Islamic scholars quickly scotched this spurious lead

pointing out that the language on the website was inaccurate in referring to the Koran. They said no zealot, suicide bombers included, would make these elementary mistakes.

I know journalists are sometimes tempted to forge such a document in the hope of a ‘scoop’. Yet, it seemed that someone was trying to gradually enlighten the British people that the massacre was Islam inspired. Already it was clear in most British minds that the Police were gently breaking the un‐ welcome news that British Muslims were responsible for the terrorist out‐ rage. Once the bombing suspects were named as Mohammed Sidique Khan, 30, the married father of an eight‐month‐old baby, Hasib Mir Hussain, 19, who bombed the bus in Tavistock Square and Shehzad Tanweer, 22, the Aldgate bomber, who lived at Colwyn Road, Leeds. The fourth bomber was identified as Lindsey Germaine residing in Buckinghamshire. Fearing a possi‐ ble public backlash against the Muslim community various authority figures called for calm and not to blame Muslims for the outrage. Islamic community leaders firmly condemned the murderous attack, stating that such acts of terror were against the principles of Islam. They too rounded on the attack‐ ers as mere criminals who should be condemned as killers and nothing more. One British Islamic convert who does not hold this view, but instead advo‐ cates such atrocities as acts of Divine Martyrdom, is none other than David Myatt; former priest, organic farmer, fascist organiser, Order of Nine Angles member and alleged agent of the Gladio Network. David Myatt converted to Islam a year before Copeland bombed Soho and began to take the Muslim names Abdul Aziz, and Abdul‐Aziz Ibn Myatt. It is alleged that Myatt now worships in a mosque in the West Yorkshire area. He cites quote after quote from the Koran, using Islamic spelling to further ingratiate himself with Mus‐ lim readers Quoting from the Koran, Myatt now assumes the mantle of piety whilst calling for a rigorous return to fundamental Islam and Sharia law.. Following events in the USA after September 11th, Myatt later gave his un‐ equivocal support for Osama Bin Laden – on whom he confers the holy title Sheikh. His racist tone is now reserved for the Jews alone. Some critics of Myattt have suggested that he is using Islam for his own ideo‐ logical ends to promote a political agenda; a war on society. Myatt has proved himself to be a man of numerous not numinous masks, and far from a unassailable position opening himself up to accusations of outright hypocrisy. Hard‐bitten conspiracy theorists now view Myatt, as an Agent Provacateur, moving from camp to camp, trying to stir up extremism in his wake. A famil‐ iar pattern appears to be unfolding with the call for a violent struggle, a racist scapegoat and call to arms. Critics remind us that Myatt himself has long been suspected of being a member of the Government sponsored Gladio Network. Some have gone on to say that his actions seem redolent of the ‘honey‐trap' operations of MI5 in the old days of the Cold War. Agents funded by the British Government, in order to attract all manner of the dis‐ senters, created extremist fronts under one banner. Here they could be ob‐ served and controlled with ease. Combat 18 is said to be one such honey‐ trap operation. The Far Right and Left have long been riddled with Special Branch informants and other agencies. Maytt’s timely appearance in the midst of Islam has led many to reassess the man. A small community of bloggers and also occultists now see him as a Promethean figure who is forging strident revolutionary theories and who is sincerely committed to social evolution. His supporters see him as a van‐ guard with a new Spiritual vision for mankind dedicated to over‐throwing Western materialism. They argue he is a genuine revolutionary figure follow‐ ing a dark esoteric path. This spiritual way demands that individuals dedicate themselves to performing dangerous and forbidden acts in order to reach self mastery. My own take on this is somewhat cynical of Myatt's conversion. We have been here before – when events in the Far Right became too much or ill‐publicity ensues, we see Myatt disappear from the limelight. First it was a Christian calling, Myatt became a monk and translator, then organic farm‐ ing took the man to the fields with heavy horses, much later of course the path of Buddhism saw Myatt embrace the Dharma. This time round Myatt may have his work cut‐out. Islam is no place to remain inconspicuous in these times. Outspoken conspiracy theorists who now regard this man as a imposter working in the darkest recesses of intelligence Black Ops. They are suspicious of his conversion for its explosive political potential. His detractors say too, that he is attempting to destabilise relations between Muslims and Christians nationally within the UK with a view to agitating long‐term unrest. Whether he is genuinely embracing Islam for the love of his fellow man – his former track record to date speaks of violent change. Notwithstanding, his continual incitement towards hatred colours his Curriculum Vitae to such extent that one is inclined to distrust his latest change of heart. Any man who views the bombings of innocent Londoner’s and describes the act as a ‘Matrydom Op‐ eration’, is bound to find some supporters in the extreme fringes of Islam. Let us hope and pray that is all he passes on. Should he possess deadly bomb making skills, may that knowledge stay in the confines of his feverish brow and evil mind. Islam, Christianity, Buddhism and Judaism in their purest as‐ pects teach peace and Brotherhood – not violence. Londoners may rest se‐ curely in the knowledge that Home Secretary has plans to tighten British Anti ‐Terror legislation to an even greater degree in light of the atrocity. Should we be celebrating this sudden rush to further restrain civil liberties as a method of protecting us against merchants of terror or should we be asking more searching, perti‐nent questions of our Government? Perhaps the Brit‐ ish Government, who has rushed this legislation through Parliament on the back of the London bombings would like to enter into an open, honest ex‐ change on the nature of terrorist acts in London? Page 19 Phenomena Magazine: December 2013 - Issue 56: www.phenomenamagazine.co.uk

This may require someone in the Government to properly explain the cir‐ cumstances of the original London bombings of 1999. Although Copeland committed this terrorist act, how do the Government explain his expertise in bomb making and his close approximation to certain alleged Gladio figures? Why did the Home Office make Copeland out to be a psychotic sociopath acting alone? Who are the Gladio network and who controls them? Why did the Government fund and train known Nazis in bomb making skills, individu‐ als allegedly such as Myatt? Why have the Home Office deliberately and consistently lied to cover the truth concerning the connection between Copeland and Myatt’s brainchild the NSW? I don’t know about the Labour government of that time but every Londoner might like to ask themselves, why is Mr Myatt, a former NSW member pur‐ portedly trained by the Government to make incendiary devices, now preaching Jihad and glorifying acts of terrorism once more? What is his real agenda? Mr Myatt and his serpentine course are unknown to most folk but rest assured he has now become a major player in the field of future events unfolding around us. In this regard he has now beyond the field of individual condemnation or vilification, the danger is no longer bomb making or calls for Islamic Jihad but his bid to change the collective future –your future. Myatt is now one of many occultists who are attempting to take us across the bridge from the bankrupt global materialist era to a New Order. He is an astute player who knows who to affect such change. In the beginning of this chapter we saw how the first Nazi revolution was fermented not by bombs but secret cabals location, farther from the volcano, long before the Dutch colonists are with hidden agendas. All the more not pressing we should ask who exactly set‐ tled in that part of central Flores in the mid 19th century. Meet the UFO man who says the Truth is Out There Yorkshire Evening Post: News Item

Philip Mantle has met many people who claim to have seen ufos, including those who claim they were abducted by aliens. Neil Hudson lifts the veil on the mystery that won’t go away. The strange light filmed hovering over Leeds recently has reignited the debate about UFOs. Though the sighting is unlikely to answer any fundamental questions, one Yorkshireman is convinced these unexplained phenomena have a deeper meaning. Whatever your views on UFOs (unidentified flying objects), it cannot be denied that it’s a subject which continues to ignite our imaginations. Philip Mantle might not fit the bill in terms of the stereotypical UFO hunter. The son of a coal miner, he works in the complaints de‐ partment at a well‐known high street bank and is nothing if not pragmatic. His interest in ‘the un‐ known’ goes back to childhood ‐ while other children would play cops n robbers, Philip was quite content attending the local spiritualist church with his friend’s grandmother. “I’ve always loved sci‐fi,” says the 55‐year‐old father and grandfather. “I can remember seeing Close Encounters and I thought it was nice but I wasn’t mad on it. By co‐incidence, the very same week there was an advert in the Yorkshire Eve‐ ning Post for a new Yorkshire UFO society and they were having their first meeting on North Street, Leeds. That was 1979. “It was started by two brothers, Gordon and Mark Birdsall, and they had a good mixture of people in the room, includ‐ ing architects, a police officer and so on. It was at that point I thought that perhaps this is not the crazy subject that it’s been made out to be. “This was long before the birth of the internet but it was people coming together to ask serious ques‐ tions about things which were unexplained. I’ve always been one to ask questions, if there’s a big red button saying ‘do not press’, I’m the one who wants to know what happens if you press it.” The group began to produce its own material and launched its own investigations, many of which looked at reports of UFO sightings in and around Skipton, North Yorkshire. “We would go out and speak to people, we befriended a good number of farmers. We would reports but in terms of finding an answer, I can’t give you one.” It’s the kind of sober response which sums up Philip’s approach, which he takes very seriously. Commenting on the UFO footage on the YEP website posted last week he said: “It looks to me like a model air‐ craft, based on the way it moves. “One of the frustrating aspects of todays UFO research is that there are more cameras than ever before but the images of alleged UFOs seem to get worse. Why is that I wonder?” He’s fully aware of the media bandwagon which infrequently rolls into town and all that goes with it. “There’s a lot more to it, once you start looking, you find it’s not what you thought. The Roswell incident in 1947 is the most famous UFO case but it wasn’t the first. About a week before it happened, a US fighter pilot called Kenneth Arnold was flying over the Cascade

Mountains near Washington looking for a crashed aircraft which had a reward when he observed a flash of light and then saw several objects flying in a V‐formation. They appeared to have no wings but were moving very fast. He timed them as they travelled between two moun‐ tain peaks and later concluded they were travel‐ ling faster than anything which was around at that time. “This was a pilot who served during the Second World War, he had no reason to make something up like that, he was as reliable as they come. His description described their movement as ‘like a saucer skipped across a pond’, from which the term ‘flying saucer’ was derived. “When I first started out I thought it wouldn’t be long before I got all the answers and while I may have found some, there’s more still waiting.” He’s co‐authored several books on the subject, among them Russia’s Roswell Incident and With‐ out Consent: True Life Stories, which deals with accounts of ‘unexplained abduction’. The most famous abduction case is probably that of Whitley Streiber, whose book Communion chronicles his alleged abduction by aliens and while the book was turned into a film starring Christopher Walken in 1989, but there are other abduction tales which originate much closer to home. Take the account of former North York‐ shire police officer Alan Godfrey, who, in 1977, had an altogether unusual experience. PC God‐ frey had been out looking for some lost cows in Todmorden when he came upon an object block‐ ing the road. He pulled up and stopped and even sketched the object, which as far as he could tell was hovering above the road. He remembered seeing a flash of light and the next thing he knew, he was driving away from the scene and the ob‐ ject was gone. The account, which is part of UFO folklore, was partially backed‐up by the reports of three other police officers, who had been on the moors above Halifax on the same night when they observed a UFO in the sky. Philip took up the story: “What’s interesting about that is PC Godfrey is a credible witness. When he got back to the station, he discovered the sole on his shoe was split and he had a burn mark on his instep. Also, he could not account for about 30 minutes. “Under hypnosis, he related he had been taken aboard the object. This loss of memory is known as ‘missing time’.” Which leads us onto Philip’s latest venture, Once Upon A Missing Time, a solo‐project and something he calls ‘faction’, because while it is in essence a work of fiction, it is based upon years of first‐ hand witness accounts of alleged abductions. “I would like to think it will serve to give the topic publicity.” In addition to his book, he has just launched a new digital UFO magazine, UFO To‐ day, which is available at www.ufotoday.net or #looktotheskies. He added: “I think it’s impor‐ tant we record such things. We might not be able to explain them yet but we have to think that we’ve only been flying for the last 100 years ‐ there are breakthroughs all the time in things like

anatomy, medicine, astronomy. It’s my job to record these things, perhaps someone else will make sense of them.” When it comes to UFOs, it would seem that the truth is still very much out there. ENCOUNTER WITH UFOLOGY Nuances aside, ‘UFO’ is the acronym used to denote ‘unidentified flying objects’, a phenome‐ non which has its roots in Roswell, America in 1947, although these days there are also an in‐ creasing number of reports of ‘USOs’, which refer to unexplained phenomenon at sea. There are an average of 70,000 reported UFO sightings every year, worldwide. The most famous incident in UFO history is Roswell, in July 1947. After the incident, the US Air Force announced being in possession of a flying saucer but later changed its statement, saying it was a weather balloon. Mass UFO sightings sometimes happen ‐ one of the most famous was that of November 1989, in Belgium, witnessed by dozens of people. The Belgian Air Force even sent some F‐16 fighter jets to intercept the objects seen in the sky. The pi‐ lots attempted to chase the objects for over an hour but were continually out‐manouevred. One pilot described how, at one point, the object dropped from 10,000ft to 500ft in under five seconds. USOs are unidentified submerged ob‐ jects, reports of which have increased in recent times. In one case, a Russian wreck‐hunter claims to have found an underwater object which looks as though it may have crash‐landed at some point. In February 1942, just three months after the attack on Pearl Harbour, which drew America into the Second World War, US radar operators picked up a series of shapes heading toward them in a V‐formation. The incident is known as the Battle of Los Angeles. The objects got to within a few miles of the coast and then van‐ ished. At the time, it was assumed it was another attack from Japan but this was later discounted and the true identify of the objects has never been properly established. Whitley Strieber is an American writer who claims to have been adbuc‐ ted in 1985, although in his book he never claims this was done by aliens but rather leaves the question open. He wrote a book about his al‐ leged experiences in 1987 called Communion, which was later made into a film starring Christo‐ pher Walken... Title: Ghosts of York Author: Rob Kirkup Publisher: Amberley ISBN: 978‐1‐84868‐236‐8 Price: £12.99 This book concentrates on the city of York (evidently, according to the author, the most hunted city in the world), and culls many of the reports to find the most interesting and therefore likely to produce a result. The author decided to discover the answer to the one of the most fundamental questions of all, i.e. are ghosts real and can they be contacted? It is refreshing to see a book written with such verve and sheer enthusiasm and it’s not long before the reader finds themselves transported into the often fraught and frequently terrifying world of the amateur ghost hunter. Several sights are investigated and it is satisfying to see that this is very much a ‘hands on’ project and not the lazy, second hand recounting of the ‘armchair expert’. We hear about the evidence gathered from electronic voice phenomena (EVP) and also the more personal impressions of sensitives who actually feel the encounters with those who have gone before. One of the most interesting comes from an old railway bridge now featured inside the York National Railway Museum, where one of the investiga‐ tors felt profoundly uneasy on one particular section of the bridge, but perfectly normal on another. We discover that the area producing the feeling of deep unease was the point from where a suicide leapt to their death on the tracks below when the bridge was sited over a railway line. There are many nerve‐tingling stories like this drawn from sites all over the city; the Treasurers House is another prime example, however there are couple of downsides to this otherwise admirable book. It does not seem to have been proofread properly (which, given the usual quality of Amberley’s products is unusual). There are several major bloopers throughout, including misspellings, sentences that make no sense at all plus some bad grammar. This is a pity, because in general the book is a good read and these distractions only serve to irritate the reader, but overall I would recommend the book for the thrill ride that it is. Title: Haunted Bromley Author: Neil Arnold Publisher: The History Press ISBN: 978‐0‐7524‐9778‐5 Price: £9.99 This, a new addition to the History Press catalogue, is from respected author Neil Arnold and considers the ghosts and ghouls that haunt Bromley in Kent. The author draws on accounts both old and new and even finds room to take a nod at the subject of Ufol‐ ogy, something that has many unlikely but still valid resonances with more traditional ideas about the paranormal. The book, which is abundantly illustrated with images of the various locations it covers, tells of such unsettling entities as the Bromley Poltergeist and assorted unearthly sightings from various towns and villages, but there are two real stand outs in the collection. One of the most poignant and yet unsettling is the encounter with what may have been a WWII pilot at the iconic Bat‐ tle of Britain air station of Biggin Hill, which is now art of London Airport. The other genuinely unsettling tales concern the goings on at Chislehurst, where, apart from the almost obligatory haunted pubs, there are the vast network of tunnels that comprise the Chislehurst Caves, which seem to contain more than their fair share of ghosts and other entities. The caves, which served as ready made bomb shelters during WWII, play host to ghostly imps, horses, black dogs and even a Roman soldier has been seen. The book is a fine addition to the canon of History Press paranormal litera‐ ture and a very handy guide to the darker recesses of Bromley; highly recommended. Title: Reiki, Empowered by It, Embraced by it, Claimed by it. Author: Robert Levy Publisher: AYNI Books ISBN: 978‐1‐78279‐065‐5 Price: £6.99, $12.95 To say that this author of this work is enthusiastic about this subject would be something of an understatement; it has become his life almost it seems to the point of obsession. The book is well and enthusiastically written and explains, or tries to explain, what Reiki actually is and that’s not easy. For this reviewer it seems that Reiki is yet another refrain on the old concept of universal en‐ ergy or ‘chi’ and the ability of individuals to tap into and channel it, hopefully for beneficial ends. Not that this should present any issues, because the author makes it clear that in line with some animistic beliefs Reiki seems semi ‐sentient in its own right and will not allow itself to be used for evil or malign purposes…or perhaps this is the sentience that seem to govern and permeate the universe. It’s hard to see the difference because other healers claim the same ability only they attrib‐ ute it to God. Here is the main problem with this book, because it is difficult to review it as a stand alone entity, everyone who has ever been involved with the paranormal (which, let’s face it, Reiki is) has an opinion. I have experienced Reiki and yes, something happened, I’m not sure what it was, but ‘something’ was going on. If you are considering trying this ancient healing process either as a practitioner or a recipient, then this book covers most if not all the bases and sets them out with the authors own preferences and methods to the fore. As an introduction to the subject it’s well worth the very reasonable cover price.

Title: Haunted Wearside Author: Darren W. Ritson Publisher: The History Press ISBN: 978‐07524‐6088‐8 Price: £9.99 Yet another welcome contribution from Darren W Ritson and The History Press to add to its already considerable catalogue of material devoted to the paranormal, this time in and around an area of North East England called Wearside. Darren, an old hand at ghost investigations, has divided the book into four sections dealing with houses and dwellings, roads and streets, the perennial pubs and hotels and ends up with a miscellany of people, objects and places. In doing so he reveals the rich supernatural heritage of the area, something that is not widely realised by the general public and perhaps just as well too. Poltergeists, apparitions of various kinds and anomalous events are all included here, but perhaps one that would resonate with most people are reports that the late Sid James of ‘Carry On’ fame haunts the Sunderland Empire Theatre where he literally dropped dead on stage during a performance in April 1976. Oddly enough the comedian Les Dawson (also deceased) who had some kind of strange sighting there, flatly refused to (a) talk about it or (b) appear in that theatre again. Darren notes that his col‐ league, the redoubtable Mike Hallowell, conducted EVP sessions in the theatre (which has more than one ghost) and was amazed at the results. While most of the tales in the book concern human ghosts there is one especially touching account of the ‘Sunderland One’ which tells of Sunderland Central Rail Station which, as well as having its share of human ghosts, also was reputedly haunted by the shade of a dog that had made the station its home at the turn of the 20th century. All in all, this book is another welcome addition to the lore of supernatural goings on in the UK, so if you are ever in the Wearside area looking for ghosts, then this book will serve as a useful hand book and guide. Title: The Poltergeist Prince of London Author: Shirley Hitchings & Jason Clark Publisher: The History Press ISBN: 9780752498034 Price: £9.99 Shirley Hitchings and James Clark’s 'The Poltergeist Prince of London: The Remarkable true story of the Battersea Poltergeist', is the first book to reveal the full details behind this chilling event. The book features Shirley’s complete account of what occurred, including the original investigations and the testimonies of every‐ one involved. This is the first book to be written by Shirley ‐ the girl at the centre of the haunting and it also features the case files of researcher Harold Chibbett. The book also reveals previously unknown details and occurrences that still surround this mysterious event. Shirley Hitchings was at the centre of this incredible haunting and she still possesses Harold Chibbett's original files as well as her family’s journals from the time. Now that her children have grown up she can finally reveal the full story. James Clark has been researching London’s ghost stories for almost twenty years. He is a member of The Ghost Club and was the librarian for the Association for the Scientific Study of Anomalous Phenomena (ASSAP) for many years. His titles include Haunted London and Haunted Wandsworth. A remarkable case that challenges your belief in regards the existence of poltergeist phenomena. Well worth getting your hands on a copy. The Billy Meier Story Language: English Run Time: 90 minutes Number of Discs: 1 Price: £10.42 In 1958, Billy Meier predicted the Iraq Wars, AIDS and global warming. Is it the biggest hoax or the most important story in human history? You’ll find the startling answer in this remarkable, true‐life story about how a young Swiss boy s meetings with extrater‐ restrials would eventually lead him later in life through dozens of countries, meeting many famous world leaders including Sad‐ dam Hussein in order to fulfill ancient prophecies. Is this story real or too incredible for us to grasp? You must decide for yourself, but if it s a hoax, why has Meier been the target of 21 assassination attempts? Could it be that the message that humanity so des‐ perately needs to hear is not welcome by many of our world leaders? Special Features ‐The Skeptics view on the Meier Case, Billy Meier on the true nature of Evolution, the first inter stellar musical collaboration and much more. I am well aware of the Billy Meier case and have been rather skeptical about it for numerous years. The footage, though very clear and professional for its day is impressive, but I cannot help thinking that it was some type of elaborate hoax. Hearing rumors many years ago that one of Billy’s relatives claimed he had manufactured the UFOs from dustbin lids etc and used some sort of suspen‐ sion wires to lift them. I’m not too sure if there was any evidence to such rumors, but nevertheless, for me that case was just a bit too unbelievable and the footage looked too professional. As if a well planned video production had taken place. If the Billy Meier case is real, (and there is most certainly a lot to it), then it could be the most significant case in the world, demonstration extrater‐ restrial contact. The case is very interesting, the footage is amazing and the messages replayed from alleged alien beings are very thought provoking. I good DVD with a wealth of information. Well worth getting a copy for your collection, even if only for nostal‐ gic reasons… (Steve Mera PM Managing Editor).

Magdalene on the Move: The Grail in England By Dan Green

In my book ‘The Murder of Mary Magdalene – Synchronicity and the Scarlet Saint’, I have shared how the deductions of my work of some twenty-eight years brought me to the conclusion that a historical artefact – either Mary Magdalene’s remains or some vital association with her - remain buried under the St Margaret burial grounds opposite the South East corner of Lincoln Cathedral, England, a great ‘treasure’ sought after throughout the centuries and guarded by the Knights Templar..

Magdalene on the Move: The Grail in England By Dan Green

The culmination of my understanding sug‐ gests strongly that this may hide the final resting place of the biblical figure known to us as Mary Magdalene, demised by a dagger whilst pregnant, and whose lost identity may even surpass the claim that she was the alleged partner of the biblical Jesus.

(Above) From the Middle East to Middle England, the marker tomb at St Margaret’s. Initially making this location known in 2005 (since, intriguingly supported by an unoffi‐ cial GPR scan that shows a sarcophagus shaped object and, alongside, a metal ob‐ long) and suggesting that her assassins had been the Jewish contract‐killing Zealots the Sicarii, known as ‘The Dagger Men’, (something that featured in another of my articles, ‘The Murder of Mary Magdalene and the Hidden Encryption in Art’). I hadn’t given much thought to the route the Magda‐ lene may have taken to the historical city of Lincoln, other than to note that her most famous stopping‐off point was within the vicinity of Rennes‐le‐Chateau in France, at a sealed cave in which I stood back in 1986, and which is highlighted accurately at the top of one of Da Vinci’s two paintings of ‘Virgin of the Rocks’, the version held at the Louvre. Given that this was painted by Leo‐ nardo, who lived the last few years of his years in France but is not known to have visited RLC, between 1483‐87 suggests that at the time of the painting it was a well kept secret that here was the resting place of Mary Magdalene. Whilst it is near impossi‐ ble to mention Mary Magdalene without having Rennes‐le‐Chateau cited alongside, few are happy to consider that at a date after the Da Vinci painting she was relo‐ cated.

trail that would have to be afforded maxi‐ mum secrecy, for premature and unwanted discovery of her remains would destroy any chance of a revelation of a more accurate understanding of the origins of a more truthful Christianity. To do so, I will say right now, will incur the phenomenon of the Un‐ conscious Mind that lies dormant and will only tip us off at its own behest, not ours. I have found during the course of my work that its preferred modus operandi is often by way of impinging information upon the innocent sensitive and the systems such a person may have been assisted to ‘stumble upon’ themselves, often exploration of pre‐ served legends and the wonder of invisible trackways and alignments. Given that my own conclusion brought me to the site of the once standing 12th century St Margaret church in Lincoln and demol‐ ished in 1781, I discovered that Margaret and her church had a hidden connection with Mary Magdalene (MM). As Margaret of Antioch, to give her full title, she is entwined with the legends concerning St Pelagia who was known as ‘The Harlot Penitent’, an un‐ deniable resonance with MM. Long before they went to Jerusalem, the Knights Templar had castles in Antioch and therefore must have been aware of, or acquainted them‐ selves with the Magaret‐Pelagia figure, sug‐ gesting to me that her church in Lincoln was a concealed Templar church thus confirming the legend that the Grail is concealed under a hidden Templar church somewhere in England. However, it is not Antioch where we will start our attempted back tracking, instead it will be Spain.

Stunning confirmation of foul play concern‐ ing the Magdalene presented itself from a 1692 terracotta by Spain’s first female sculptor Luisa Roldan (1652‐1706). There is some evidence that before, during and after the time of the Cathars who were exterminated for their belief in Jesus Christ being married to a pregnant Magdalene, the impending Grail legend had either origi‐ nated (as Wolfram Eschenbach thought) in Spain, or had found its way there, none so more than in Catalonia, capital city of Bar‐ celona south of the Pyrenees, where the monks of Monserrat believed it to be bur‐ ied there. So many theories already! First, I will pursue a lead afforded me by a corre‐ spondent who prefers anonymity, so we will visit the stone boat that arrives onshore at the ‘Coast of Death’ ‐ Muxia, on the Costa de Morte ‐ carrying Mary the Virgin, supposed mother‐in‐law of MM, who we are told came to encourage St James in his mission, and ponder over whether this may have been a deliberate and construed alle‐ gory, the preserved account instead hinting at the arrival of the relics of MM herself. Legend holds that St James’ remains were carried by boat from Jerusalem to north western Spain and buried on the site of the city of Santiago de Compostela, now capital of the autonomous community of Galicia, the tale of his body’s arrival similar to that of the three Mary’s (take your pick!) arriv‐ ing at Saintes Marie‐de‐la‐Mer. To further the hypothesis we must consider that it was the relics of MM that were taken to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, un‐ der the guise of St James, who today is

Mary Magdalene. Mary Magdalene or Mary of Mag‐ dala and some‐ times The Magda‐ lene, is a religious figure in Christian‐ ity. She is usually thought of as the second‐most important woman in the New Testa‐ ment after Mary the mother of Jesus. Mary Mag‐ dalene traveled with Jesus as one of his followers. She was present at Jesus' two most important mo‐ ments: the cruci‐ fixion and the resurrection. Wikipedia

Mary Magdalene inherits her name from her birthplace of Magdala near Gallilee, and it is the Aramaic word for ‘Tower,’ and so my suspicion that she is entangled with the Bega story line strengthens. Much of Cort Lindahl’s Grail work revolves around the Tower of the Winds at Shugborough Hall estate, a Compass Rose from where places that have themes relating to the Holy Grail align and he has discovered that its azimuth points to Lincoln Cathedral. It also points to The Bishops Palace with its own tower adja‐ cent it, and onto the West Wycombe estate of English politician and occultist Francis Dashwood who built his own lighthouse‐ style tower that aligns with the discovered vast sacred geometry on the Lincolnshire landscape.

(Above) Jesus in a dress? Santiago de Com‐ postela Cathedral.

(Above) Symbol of St James – a dagger? Santiago de Compostela Cathedral has been discovered to fall on the same azimuth (an angular measurement in a co‐ordinates sys‐ tem) as Saintes‐Marie‐de‐la‐Mer where the Magdalene was alleged to have arrived, by the untiring and inspiring work of American author Cort Lindahl whose many videos on YouTube attempt to identify Grail related geography. His work can be found at his website ‘Geomantic Information Systems; Exploring Axis Mundi, The Earth Grid, The Holy Grail and Ley Lines’. The dome of the Cathedral has an all seeing eye with a pyra‐ mid at the apex of the dome. South East of Santiago, the original settlement named after its original Irish inhabitants bears the title Irea Flavia, and we will return to this Irish connection later. I have made my own discoveries concerning this great Cathedral too, where we find a strange representation of Jesus in what appears to be a dress. A clue in some way alluding to the Magdalene perhaps? Our next inspired hunch is that the relics of MM next moved from A Coruna, once capi‐ tal of Galicia, to a cave near Rennes‐le‐ Chateau before having to be moved to evade capture, to Ireland. Now we must look at the tale of St Bega, reputedly a saint from the middle ages, an Irish princess

Page 25 Phenomena Magazine: December 2013 - Issue 56: www.phenomenamagazine.co.uk

Bega fled from the Isle of Aran, SW Ireland across the Irish Sea to escape a marriage to a Viking prince, son of the king of Norway, to land on the Cumbrian coast at St Bees, and I have a suspicion that this story line may also be an allegory referring to the relocation of Mary Magdalene. Providing a connection with A Coruna and the Irish was the Celtic Broegan whose gargantuan tower built at A Coruna provided sight of an unknown land mass to which he sent his sons to discover. It was Ireland. Close to this tower a huge Com‐ pass Rose mosaic includes a skull and cross bones. Alex Langstone, author of ‘Spirit Chaser – The Quest for Bega’ links her with the constellation of Bootes, the same con‐ stellation that is entwined with Lincoln Ca‐ thedral owing to its major star Arcturus in its role as guardian of the bear of Ursa Major, the constellation that presides over Rennes‐ le‐Chateau. (Right) St Bega arrives at Cum‐ bria – Allegori‐ cal of the Mag‐ dalene? Bega has an association with a crown and seven stars which we find also on the coat of arms of Galicia, and again on the coat of arms of A Coruna, sur‐ rounding a

(Above) alongside each other; Coat of Arms of Galicia & Coat of Arms A Coruna. The Rose window at the North of the Lin‐ coln Cathedral is itself a hidden Compass Rose which highlights Arcturus in the night sky. Lindahl’s voluminous work has discov‐ ered that a geographic azimuth on the globe travels in individual straight lines from both Cathedrals at Valencia (who claim to hold the cup of Christ) and also Santiago de Compostela to Saintes‐Marie‐ de‐la‐Mer, and by doing so suggests a con‐ nection with both of them and the Magda‐ lene in Europe. In the same sense that the coastal arrival of St James and deposit at Santiago de Com‐ postela mirror that of the Magdalene, could the legend of St Bega also conceal a truth concerning the movement of the Magda‐ lene’s relics? St. Bega is reputed to have set sail from the Isle of Aran, SW Ireland to Cumbria and it is here we make another link. I have already encountered how sensitive artists often provide a channel for information that work through them direct from the reservoir of the Collective Unconscious, the stone sculp‐ tor Dan Michael Archer’s exhibition at Lin‐ coln Cathedral in 2002 provided a stone sarcophagus shape pointing directly over to the burial grounds at St Margaret’s which he titled ‘The Secret’.

Magdalene on the Move: The Grail in England By Dan Green

(Below) Landscape image ‐ Jesus at Cum‐ bria and the Heart of the Lamb at Lincoln. (Copyright Graham K Griffiths)

It was at Cumbria that we find another such sensitive soul, the portraiture and landscape artist Graham K Griffiths, whose work hangs in the American White House Permanent Collection, and who, in 2003, gave us his book ‘Behold Jerusalem!’ discovering within the 12 signs of the zodiac profiled in the British and Northern Irish coastlines an al‐ most 50 mile tall depiction of the crucifixion in the British landscape of not one, but two figures on the cross thus reflecting images I have found at Galicia. Jesus and Mary Mag‐ dalene? Jesus’ cross was the Cumbrian tip of the one held by the Lamb of God whose heart rests, geographically, upon Lincoln, and it is only three miles to the west of Lin‐ coln Cathedral we find our own unique and puzzlingly titled small village of Jerusalem. So here we have a clear connection between Galicia in Spain, Rennes‐le‐Chateau, Ireland, Cumbria and Lincoln. Was this the route taken by the Templar guarded relics of the Magdalene? Authoress Claire Nahmad, whose book ‘The Coming of the Holy Grail’ acknowledges my own conclusion, has also thought that the Grail did spend time in Ireland. (Right) Jesus and Mary, Galicia. According to Irish lore that other most famed of biblical treasures, the Ark of the Covenant, is hid‐ den at the sacred Hill of Tara nestled in the rural County Meath, awash with Celtic mythology. With incoming threats to Egypt, for safe keeping we are told that the Ark

was taken by boat to the end of the known world, which was Ireland and already inhab‐ ited by people from the 5th tribe of Israel, the Danites or Tribe of Dan. All original in‐ habitants of Southern Ireland arrived via different routes, times and names. Vikings too were Danites and we recall Bega was promised to a Viking prince. Could this as‐ sertion of a biblical treasure more correctly be a remnant memory of how once the rel‐ ics of MM resided awhile at Tara?

the Jew underwriter of Lincoln Cathedral, and the near proximity of a thriving Tem‐ plar Preceptory. Perhaps the real reason why our artefacts have been drawn to and deposited where they are, belongs to that invisible uncon‐ scious level, a powerful energy point upon the Lincolnshire geography where the sym‐ bolism of its occupying ‘treasure’ is ampli‐ fied in the Collective Unconscious of all of

Mary Magdalene. John and Mark specifically name Magdalene as the first person to see Jesus after his Resurrection. She was there at the "beginning of a movement that was going to transform the West". She was the "Apostle to the Apostles", an honorific that fourth‐century orthodox theolo‐ gian Augustine gave her and that others earlier had possibly conferred on her. Throughout the centuries there have been many extra‐biblical speculations about her role before and after she met Jesus. These have included harlot, wife, mother, and secret lover.

(Above) The sacred Hill of Tara, County Meath. My own deductions implied that MM did stay hidden in a crypt at the Knight Templar Preceptory at Temple Bruer 12 miles south of Lincoln Cathedral, before moving to a similar hiding place at the then standing Templar church of St Margaret. If you visit Bruer today you will not find an explanation for why the entrance has been chiselled away to provide a larger opening, presuma‐ bly to make room for carrying in and out something large. It could be that arrival at Bruer came direct from Cumbria, before the eventual short journey to the less obvious Templar influ‐ ence at St Margaret’s. Again, at Lincoln we find the two preferred circumstances that would secretly welcome and protect the relics of a famous Jewish figure, it being the first and largest Jewish settlement in Britain back in the Middle Ages with the rich Aaron

us, awaiting that moment we can, as indi‐ viduals, awaken to realisation of its pres‐ ence. (Below) The widened entrance at Temple Bruer.

A baffling mystery as to what truly lies be‐ neath St. Margaret’s burial grounds...

St. Mary Magda‐ lene is considered to be a saint by the Catholic, Orthodox, Angli‐ can, and Lutheran churches, with a feast day of July 22. Other Protes‐ tant churches honor her as a heroine in the faith. The Eastern Orthodox churches also commemo‐ rate her on the Sunday of the Myrrhbearers, the Orthodox equiva‐ lent of the West‐ ern Three Marys. Wikipedia

Nicole Kidman reveals she was haunted by ghosts on the set of The Railway Man.

Nicole Kidman and Colin Firth stood by the cutting at Kanchanaburi in Thailand — site of the infamous Death Railway — lost in a moment of reverence. A lifetime ago, during World War Two, Allied soldiers — mainly British and Australian — cut through the malaria‐infested jungle and rocks in order to construct a bridge across this ravine. Many died as a result of the fierce heat, harsh conditions and cruelty of their Japanese captors. One of the those who survived was Eric Lomax, a Scottish‐born second lieu‐ tenant. For years, he was haunted by what happened but would‐ n’t speak of it — until he married Patti, who helped him fight the demons that gave him sleepless nights. Nicole and Colin were in Thailand to portray the Lomaxes in later life (Jeremy Irvine plays the young soldier) in a film called The Railway Man, which opens here on New Year’s Day. ‘This place is devastating,’ Nicole told me, as we spoke between scenes, her words echoing off the sheer rock walls. ‘Patti Lomax told me about this. She said: “When you go there, you’ll feel the ghosts.” And you really do.’ More than a year later, when I mention that scene to Nicole, she is still affected by the experience. ‘It’s not an easy place to go to,’ she said. ‘What Eric and those other men went through was unimaginable. But they weren’t able to talk about it, and this code of silence was harmful to them, and it ruined relationships. ‘But Patti wasn’t put off by the obstacles. She wanted to get at the truth of what hap‐ pened to her husband, and she wouldn’t be put off. ‘Patti’s one of those people who hang in there, which is why I wanted to tackle it, because I believe in hanging in there,’ she said pointedly. ‘You know, love can be very healing. That can really help heal trauma. You can’t do it for them. You offer it. You be there for them, and be their constant.’ You’ve been through that, I suggest, thinking of how the actress helped her husband Keith Urban break free from his addictions. ‘Yes, I’ve probably been through that — but do not make it about me!’ she chides. ‘But it’s what drew me to the role,’ she conceded. I recall how, in Thailand, we walked closer to the cutting. Nicole was holding an umbrella to ward off the sun’s rays. ‘Can’t you feel it?’ she asked me, as we neared the ravine. ‘It’s such sacred ground. You don’t have to conjure up emotion for the scene, because it’s all around you. ‘Patti said the same thing. She stood there weeping for all the boys when she came with Eric.’ The Railway Man’s producer, Andy Paterson, told me he was drawn to making the film, directed by Jonathan Teplitzky, by what Eric went through — and because of Patti. ‘I was interested in the woman who had the strength to find out what was wrong with this man, to fall in love with him and to do something about it. ‘Patti was initially reluctant to accept that what she’d been through with Eric could even vaguely be compared to the suffering of the guys who built the railway,’ Paterson told me. Nicole shared that sensibility and said the film was really about Eric and what happened to him during and after the war. ‘It is important to be able to tell the story,’ she said. ‘And it might be of some help to the boys coming home from Afghanistan. Coming home is just as tough.’

UFO expert writes latest Haynes manual. Author Nigel Watson has written a manual with a difference, allowing readers to take apart and piece together the evidence for and against UFOs, as Martin Freeman discovered. Get ready for a close encounter of the publishing kind: the latest Haynes manual is about UFOs. The truth is out there thanks to Plympton author Nigel Watson. The series better known for exploded diagrams of 1970s Alfa Romeos examines what might be the preferred transport of visitors from Alpha Centauri. Sadly the new volume doesn’t explain how to fix an oil leak in the warp drive of an intergalactic cruiser. Rather, Nigel examines 121 years of evidence in his UFO Investigations Manual “a comprehensive exami‐ nation of UFO research and investigations – including government reports – that have attempted to solve this enduring mystery”. “I was hoping they’d have a cut‐away of a UFO on the front cover,” says Nigel, mixing humour and regret. A blurry photo of a “flying saucer” gets pride of place instead. Nigel, 59, is an expert in the history of UFOs. His previous books include Portraits Of Alien Encounters (1990). He has been commissioned by the History Press to write a book on UFOs of World War I, due out next year to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the start of the conflict (“a bit gratuitously”, he adds with a sheep‐ ish grin). Nigel has for many years been a regular contributor to magazines such as Paranormal and the “bible” of strange phenomena, Fortean Times. Despite those interests he is refreshingly down to Earth. When darkness falls he doesn’t head to the nearest hilltop to watch the skies – he goes to Tesco, Lee Mill, where he works nights, part‐time. He describes himself as an “optimistic sceptic”. The more re‐ search he does into a given “encounter”, the less likely he is to believe that ET and pals are regular visitors to the third rock from the Sun. “I begin by thinking it might be something extra‐terrestrial,” he says. “When it is investigated I realise that things are more complicated and I proba‐ bly become more sceptical.” The Haynes Manual idea came to him in a flash (in his head, not the night sky). “I went to a talk at Plymouth University by David Baker, who wrote the Haynes manual about the Space Shuttle. “I thought I could do that for UFOs so I contacted Haynes. “Normally publishers take about eight weeks to reply, and usually with a ‘no’. “Haynes replied within two hours saying they were interested.” The book took about eight months to write. “It’s a useful guide for the beginner, for someone who wants to know more about the subject.” Nigel’s own beginnings were in Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire. After being made re‐ dundant by British Steel he did a degree in film and literature at Warwick University. He moved to London and wrote instruction sheets for electrical goods distributors. Lights shine brightly and desk‐top fans whirr efficiently in many a home in Britain thanks to Nigel’s clear and meticulous assembly guides.

The move to Plymouth came in 1996 after he met and married Barbara, a community midwife, who has a family link with the South West. They live in Colebrook with sons Niles, 12, and Michael, 14, and daughter NASA unveils prototype humanoid robot. Adrienne, 17. Nigel broadened his experience by being a community correspondent for The Herald for several years. His freelance experience also includes contributing to How It Works, a monthly magazine that explains the ins and outs of modern gadgets and science and technology generally. His speciality, though, is the weird and apparently unexplained. In this case, everything from something strange in the sky to something unpleasant inserted into the body during a very close encounter with an alien. That might make the UFO Investigations Manual sound like a bit of a joke publication. Far from it. Nigel’s guide is a highly detailed, meticulously researched piece of work that is also a good read – and quite addictive, even for those not usually drawn in by ufology. His chapters and sections include classifying and identify‐ ing UFOs, official investigations, DIY investigation kit essentials and close encounters of the third and fourth kinds. For those whose knowledge begins and ends with Steven Spielberg’s 1977 film Close En‐ counters of the Third Kind, it’s an education across all 163 pages. The American space agency has revealed that it has been develop‐

ing a 6ft robot known as Valkyrie. Weighing in at 20 stone, NASA's answer to Iron Man features sophisticated articulated legs and arms, a head that can tilt and swivel and hands with three fingers and a thumb. Capable of tasks such as walking across uneven terrain, driving, climbing ladders and using tools, the robot has been designed to be as autonomous and human‐like as possible. At the moment it can operate for around an hour from one charge of the battery it carries around in its backpack. Valkyrie is NASA's entry in the DARPA Robotics Challenge, a competition that aims to drive innovation towards robots able to take over the tasks con‐ ventionally assigned to humans. Competing against it for a $2 million prize will be Boston Dynamics' own Atlas robot which sports a similar humanoid design.

Take those encounters for starters. “The scale comes from a UFO researcher called J. Allen Hynek,” says Nigel. “The first kind is a visual sighting of an unidentified flying object. The second is a sighting plus some physical evidence. “The third is sightings of occupants of a UFO.” The fourth is an extension of the original Hynek classification, an abduction, he adds. For those who thought UFO sightings didn’t exist until after World War II, his first chapter contains a surprise. “There were a lot of reports of sightings before the start of the 20th century,” he says. “Before the term ‘flying saucer’ was coined in 1947 and became an umbrella for anything weird going on that people thought were spacecraft or alien activity, things were interpreted in different ways. “In America, they were regarded as the workings of inventors. People would occasionally come forward and say they were the ‘mystery inventor’ of the kite or winged airship that had been featured in the newspaper. “Between 1909 and 1939 in Britain, reports led to scares about German airships and inventions.”

That touches on an important point: sightings often seem to fit the technology of the period, or the next phase of machines. So the late 19th century and early 20th century sightings look like the balloons, airships and aeroplanes of the time. The post‐WWII area of jet propulsion and the dawn of space flight brings en‐ counters that are more in tune with what the public knows or can imagine. Politics, science fiction and the news media also play a role. “The United States Air Force (USAF) was originally open to all sorts of explana‐ tions,” says Nigel. “But in the early 1950s during the Cold War with the (Russian‐dominated) Soviet Union the Central Intelligence Agency was worried that the Russians could use UFO sightings to spread misinfor‐ mation or to launch a missile strike.” A CIA panel was set up after a wave of sightings over Washington DC in 1953. “The panel recommended that UFOs be stripped of their ‘aura of mystery’ and the public should be better educated to be able to recognise the difference between truly hostile aircraft and UFOs,” Nigel writes in his chapter, Official UFO Investigations. “It was also advised that civilian UFO groups be moni‐ tored ‘because of their potentially great influence on mass thinking... the apparent irresponsibility and possible use of such groups for subversive purposes should be kept in mind’. “Unfortunately, the policy to debunk UFOs only made it seem that the government was covering up the subject and knew more about it than they were wiling to say.” As tensions eased and governments became more open the public was still suspicious about misinforma‐ tion and selective release. “When the (UK) Ministry of Defence released their records of sightings (in 2009) mainly people were sceptical. “They said the MoD was only releasing what they wanted us to see. You can never quite please the believers.” Many official investigations muddied the waters and caused greater confusion, he says, Science fiction has a habit of becoming fact for some people in UFO sightings. Sightings frequently look like what is in current sci‐fi films “and films have a tendency to portray the kind of UFOs that people have reported,” says Nigel. One feeds into the other. Then there’s the role of the media, who love a good story. “It was the media who coined the term ‘flying saucer’,” he points out. “The person whose sighting started the ‘flying sauce’ era didn’t use the term like that.” He was Kenneth Arnold who was flying his light plane over Mount Rainier, Washington, on June 24, 1947. He saw a chain of peculiar‐ looking aircraft which he calculated were travelling faster than 1,000mph. He described them as flying ‘like a saucer would if you skipped it across the water’. Arnold later became one of the first civilians to investi‐ gate a UFO incident – and was commissioned by a sci‐fi magazine to write up the tale. Nigel’s fascination is with the whole subject, rather than whether aliens are treating Earth as the ideal day‐trip destination. It’s the combination of everything from meteorology to psychology, with politics, espionage and entertain‐ ment somewhere in the middle that intrigue him. “Most UFO witnesses are quite convincing,” he says. “I have not really come across any hoaxes – usually those are quite easy to spot. People tend to be quite firm in the belief of what they have seen. “The difficulty is in obtaining any physical evidence. Most (sightings) seem to be glimpses or dreams.” Amateur investiga‐ tions tend to add to the confusion much like official reports. A prime example is the Roswell UFO incident of July, 1947. An air‐ borne object crashed on a ranch near Roswell, New Mexico, in the USA. The US governments says it was a military surveillance balloon. Others claim the object was a spacecraft containing ex‐ traterrestrial life. “Before the 1970s, Roswell was only a footnote. Then people started investigating and more eye witnesses and friends of eye witnesses came forward. “As reports get older they get more elaborate and more complicated.” Some ufologists believe that UFO sighting hot spots are connected with ley lines, apparent alignments of sites such as ancient ruins. Nigel’s expla‐ nation for some hotspots is closer to home. If a UFO investigator or group is active in an area they will tend to see and report more than in a place where the skies are not watched so closely. “I wrote a lot for Fortean Times and reported anything strange I saw,” he says. “It might have seemed that Scunthorpe was a particularly weird place. Although, perhaps… “Given the size of the universe there has to be life elsewhere especially as in recent years we have found so many planets orbiting other stars,” he adds, putting the case for aliens visiting our Solar System. “But the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence has been watching and listening and found nothing. Perhaps they can’t communicate or are just too far away,” he adds, knocking it down again. He has been on UFO hunts but has yet to see anything convincing. “Even trained pilots can be confused and find it difficult to judge the distance and speed of something in the sky, especially at night,” he says. Chinese lanterns, meteorites, space debris re‐entering the atmos‐ phere and even light reflecting off birds can cause UFO sightings, he adds. Ball lightning, colourful spheres of static electricity that can move at random or be attracted metal in objects such as planes, might explain away other sightings, as might other strange atmospheric phenomena such as plasma balls, which can be detected on radar and affect aircraft instruments. “There could be things unknown to science at the mo‐ ment that will be discovered.” Much of the explanation is not to do with outer space. It’s more about inner space: a half‐awake or dreaming brain or a confused “memory” of an “abduction” retrieved through hyp‐ notherapy. “Unfortunately many cases are invested with a power that transcends any rational arguments or logical explanations and they become an established part of the UFO mythology,” he concludes in the UFO Inves‐ tigations Manual. “What is really needed... is incontrovertible proof, like an actual flying saucer parked on the White House lawn.” Some just don’t want not to believe. “People do not like the mystery explained away. They like it to remain a mystery. “Perhaps UFO sightings are folklore in the making.” The UFO Investigations Manual, by Nigel Watson, is published by Haynes at £21.99 (Special; Thanks to Chris Parr).

Ghost invades Peaches Geldof's selfie?

Nothing sets apart an Instagram image like a photobombing spirit. But is it the work of a haunting or a photo app? When the daugh‐ ter of British rock star Bob Geldof took a photo of herself and her son Astala, a ghostly interloper seemed to get in on the act. An unexplainable image of a mysterious hand appeared on socialite Peaches Geldof's shoulder when she took the photo of herself and her son in the bath. When she posted the photo on Instagram she wrote: "Close up shot of the mystery ghost hand in pic I took of Astala and me in the bath!! And no that isn't my hand ‐‐ one of mine was round his waist to hold him during the photo, the other holding the camera to take the shot. Also the hand is around my shoulder so totally weird angle if I did it myself!! How terrifying!!" While skeptics might explain away the hand as merely an effect of double exposure, Geldof says she thinks the hand could belong to the ghost of the previous owner of the house where she lives with her family in Southeast England. 'The house was built in the 1920s by a rich man and his pregnant wife," Geldof told the Daily Mail. "However, his wife had a stillborn baby and was so grief‐ stricken she went mad. She apparently drowned herself in the bath." Geldof claims the photo is real, but for those who want to pull off the ultimate Instagram ghost prank, it's easy enough to add a spirit to any photo with the GhostCam Pro app.

Will Obama's new advisor persuade him to release UFO files?

News of John Podesta's appointment as counselor to US President Barack Obama has triggered speculation that some of the top secret UFO files may be released soon. Podesta, 64, was a White House chief of staff under Bill Clinton and has been Obama's outside advisor since the 2008 presidential election. He also advised former Secretary‐of‐State Hillary Clinton during her last year in office. Podesta is the founder and chair of the Center for Equitable Growth Center think‐tank created this fall and chair of the Center for American Progress he founded a decade ago. He will now formally join the White House inner circle for a year as Obama struggles to salvage his unexpectedly difficult second term. Apart from climate change and executive issues, Podesta will also handle Obama's troubled healthcare program. There is one further fact you might not know about him. Podesta repeatedly urged the US government to declassify at least some 25 year old UFO files which could give scientists a clue as to the real nature of a few unexplained airborne sightings. In 2010, he wrote a foreword to Leslie Kean's "UFOs: Generals, Pilots and Government Officials Go on the Record". "I'm skeptical about many things, including the notion that government always knows best, and that the people can't be trusted with the truth. The time to pull the curtain back on this subject is long overdue. Presenting the facts, the book includes statements from only the most credi‐ ble sources, those in a position to know, about a fascinating phenomenon, the nature of which is yet to be determined," Podesta wrote. Obama, whose approval rating fell 5% in October to below 50%, may well consider releasing UFO files as a nice way to prop up his sagging popularity. Huffington Post.

Commemorating Lloyd Pye By Steve Mera - Attributes Lloyd Pye’s website.

Internationally recognised as one of the leading lecturers on cryptozoology, the intervention theory and of course the Starchild Skull; Lloyd Pye passed away on December 9th 2013 after a difficult battle against aggressive Cancer. Lloyd was a good friend and will be dearly missed by many. Page 31 Phenomena Magazine: December 2013 - Issue 56: www.phenomenamagazine.co.uk

Commemorating Lloyd Pye By Steve Mera - Attributes Lloyd Pye’s website.

Lloyd Pye was a researcher, author, and lecturer, known for his entertain‐ ing speaking style and amusing "Southernisms." His subject areas in‐ clude Intervention Theory, Hominoids (Bigfoot, Yeti, etc.), human origins, and the Starchild Skull. He was born in Houma, Louisiana, on September 7, 1946, on the leading edge of the famous “Baby Boom,” among the first crop of offspring born to the young men and women who as children endured the Great Depression and as young adults survived World War II. His mother endured 50 hours of labor in a small clinic before she died. As soon as she died, he was cut out of her in the hope his life could be saved. It was, but his head was so misshapen from the long labor that the doctor felt he was hopelessly brain damaged. He told his father that his wife was dead and the child would be a “vegetable.” As was acceptable at that time, his father was asked for permission to let him "expire" along with his mother so he could start over fresh from this terrible turn of events. His father was wrestling with that aw‐ ful decision when his mother suddenly came back to life! She had become one of those rare individuals who have gone deep into the brilliant white tun‐ nel of death, seen and spoken to her own deceased father on "the other side," and returned by her own choice to live on. Miraculously, in a time be‐ fore ultrasounds when she had no way to know the gender of her unborn child, she told the apparition of her father that she could not stay, she had a son that she needed to return to and look after. She has since survived five other near‐deaths, none quite as dra‐ matic as that first one at 19, and she is still alive in her 80s. Lloyd became the oldest of four sib‐ lings, an “A” student and good enough at sports to earn a football scholarship to Tulane University in New Orleans. He graduated in 1968, with a B.S. in psychology. This was the height of the Viet Nam War, so to avoid being drafted and consigned to be cannon fodder in the infantry, he enlisted in the Army. After a battery of tests he was assigned to the Military Intelli‐ gence School at Fort Holabird, Mary‐ land, and after training he was as‐ signed to a small field office in Gaines‐ ville, Georgia. His job was carrying out background investigations for people who needed security clearances. Lloyd's was a routine tour of duty with

no time spent in Viet Nam. Through his 20s he worked at a number of ordinary jobs, mostly sales, but none were ful‐ filling. He wanted to do something more interesting and challenging, so he began to lean toward writing, and at the age of 28 he began to study that craft in earnest. At 31, he published a sports‐based novel that he used as a calling card in Hollywood, where he labored at the edge of success for most of the 1980s. In the late 1980s he pub‐ lished "Mismatch," a high‐tech Cold War thriller that dealt with phone phreaking, early computer hacking, and submarine warfare. While pursuing a career writing fiction, he also indulged a deeply personal interest in hominoids (Bigfoot, Yeti, etc.). By 30 he was convinced they were the indigenous bipedal primates of planet Earth, and that what science told us were “pre” humans were noth‐ ing of the kind. They were the ances‐ tors of today’s living hominoids, not of today’s humans, but he had no plausi‐ ble way to explain how humans had come to be here. He knew we weren’t a part of the flowchart of natural life on Earth, and that we clearly didn’t evolve here in the way mainstream science insisted, but he couldn’t find a valid way to support his position.

They asked if he would confirm that for them, and he said he would be happy to. That set in motion an on‐going se‐ ries of events as he attempted to de‐ finitively determine the genetic heri‐ tage of their unusual relic, since dubbed the Starchild Skull . He has shepherded the Starchild through more than a decade of scientific tests, expert analysis, raised public aware‐ ness, and has published both a printed book and an eBook about it. After all that, a recent DNA test finally gave a preliminary but convincing result that the Starchild Skull is part human and part nonhuman. He then planned to recover its entire genome to prove this radical assertion beyond any possible doubt. www.StarchildProject.com has more information about this topic.

Finally, at the age of 45, he read Zecha‐ ria Sitchin’s classic book about Sumer‐ ian prehistory, The Twelfth Planet, which he published in 1976 but which he didn’t find out about until 1990. His translation of Sumerian history written in cuneiform on stone tablets provided an explanation for human origins that made rational sense based on what he had learned about the reality of homi‐ noids. He had the front end of his work and he had the back end of Lloyds, so he knew he could combine the two and create something unique and valuable. In late 1997 Lloyd published " E v e r y t h i n g Y o u K n o w I s Wrong" (EYKIW), which became a pro‐ verbial “overnight sensation.”

Whenever the Starchild case is over, Lloyd intended to refocus on another career as a researcher of the Interven‐ tion Theory of human origins, and as a proponent of hominoid reality. He intended to continue teaching those who decide to enroll in the "Invisible College" of students who care more about establishing actual truths than they do about protecting ossified dogma.

Through 1998, Lloyd traveled all over the U.S. and into western Canada lec‐ turing about it at dozens of confer‐ ences and speaking about it in many radio interviews. He then had some appearances on local TV shows. His increasing exposure brought him to the attention of Ray and Melanie Young of El Paso, Texas, who were in possession of an unusual human‐like skull. They showed it to him early in 1999 and asked his opinion. Lloyd felt it was almost certainly a human deformity of some kind, but he told them it couldn’t hurt anything to be absolutely sure.

Lloyd was unfortunately never to com‐ plete this goal. Lloyd was diagnosed with aggressive B‐cell lymphoma Can‐ cer and had to fight for his life at an alternative center with an outstanding record of turning lymphoma Cancer into a chronic illness rather than a fatal disease. Consequently, he turned over the Starchild Project to others who will carry it forward with a new, fully mod‐ ernised, and highly upgraded website. After a number of treatments Lloyd became much more ill and sadly passed away on December 10th 2013. He will be remembered for his funny

Everything You Know Is Wrong (EYKIW) is the product of years of research into human origins, spanning everything from the oldest known recorded histories of the world to modern genetic discoveries. In it, Lloyd Pye postulates his alternative view of human evolution, now called "Intervention Theory." This new theory stands sepa‐ rate from Creationism, Evolu‐ tion, and Intelligent Design, and explains many of the conundrums left unanswered by those other theories. Starchild skull's physical traits cannot be accounted for by any known combi‐ nation of deformities. The bone itself has a biochemical signature more like tooth enamel than bone, unlike any‐ thing currently known. And inside that unusual bone are microscopic fibers and a red residue that so far defy ex‐ planation. In addition to writing and lecturing, Lloyd Pye is Director of the Starchild Project, a research organization that has been investigating the Starchild Skull since February of 1999. Lloyd initially thought the skull's unusual physical characteristics must be the result of some kind of deformity, but he soon learned no technically valid explanation for it existed. The most unusual features of the skull include bone that is half as thick and heavy as Page 33 Phenomena Magazine: December 2013 - Issue 56: www.phenomenamagazine.co.uk

National Institutes of Health BLAST program, and a substantial portion of the Starchild's nuclear DNA was found to have "no significant similarity" to any DNA previously found on Earth. This is historic! A detailed explanation of the 2010 findings is available on the Starchild Project website at StarchildPro‐ ject.com/DNA2010.htm Then, in 2011, the same technique was used to analyze the Starchild Skull's mitochondrial DNA . The results were impressively different from anything expected in a human. A detailed explanation of the 2011 findings is available on the Starchild Project website at StarchildPro‐ ject.com/DNA2011Laymans.htm The Intervention Theory. This theory began in 1968 with the publication of Erich Von Daniken’s Chariots of the Gods. Von Daniken focused on the wide array of mega‐ lithic structures around the world that so obviously are beyond modern ca‐ pacities to match. Surely, he argued, only intervention by non‐human, off‐ world entities could explain how such immense structures could be built to tolerances that today’s engineers can only marvel at.

One favorite quote is that the Pyramids are “Rolex watches built on a scale of small mountains,” as are Baalbek in Lebanon, Tiahuanaco in Bolivia, and Sachsahuaman and Ollantaytambo in Peru, among dozens of monuments less cyclopean in size but no more likely to have been created by the minds and muscles of ordinary hu‐ mans. In 1976, a new champion of interven‐ tion appeared. Zecharia Sitchin pub‐ lished The Twelfth Planet, which sup‐ plied a different array of evidence to support Von Daniken’s assertion that Earth bristled with the remains of non‐ human activity in a not‐too‐distant past. Sitchin based his conclusions on the voluminous written records of Sumer, the “sudden civilization” that sprang up virtually overnight in the Tigris‐Euphrates Valley of modern Iraq. Historians can’t begin to plausibly ex‐ plain how Sumerians were trans‐ formed from Stone Age farmers to very sophisticated city dwellers in a matter of only a few hundred years around 5,000 years ago, but the Sumerians can and do explain it in clearly written terms. Rather than fragile paper or parch‐ ment, Sumerians wrote in soft clay, then fired it into stone in the world's first kilns. At least 100,000 of those stone tablets have survived to present times, and they describe how superior beings from beyond Earth that they called "gods" lived among them as their lords and masters. Also, they say that in much earlier times these gods actually created humans “in their own image, after their own likeness” (words copied 2,000 years later into Genesis) in a “house of fashioning” (a genetic laboratory?) where they also created all of the known domesticated plants and animals “to give the gods their ease.” The Sumerians always referred to their gods in a multiple sense and never with upper case emphasis. They wrote about those gods in matter‐of‐fact terms, describing them as flesh‐and‐ blood beings with whom they could have sex and produce hybrid offspring. Modern humans have 46 chromo‐ somes, whereas our supposed closest relatives, chimps and the other higher primates, have 48. Intervention theo‐ rists suggest that this difference is a direct result of these Sumerian "gods" (aliens) tinkering with our DNA and breeding with us, adding many elements of their own DNA to ours. Intervention Theory has been refined by many new discoveries since Von

Daniken and Sitchin first introduced it to the public, not least of which are these discoveries in the DNA of every‐ thing from humans to Hawaiian cotton. Hominoids. "Hominoid" technically means a mem‐ ber of the biological superfamily of Hominoidea, including modern great apes, humans, and several extinct an‐ cestors and relatives. The term has fallen from favor with modern scien‐ tists, who want to categorize humans and the so‐called prehumans as "hominin." Thus, "Hominoid" has been adopted to describe the controversial family of upright walking hair‐covered primates that live on every continent on Earth except Antarctica. These primates are known by different names in different cultures: Bigfoot in the U.S., Sasquatch in Canada, Yowie in Australia, Yeti and Abominable Snow‐ man in the Himilayas, Alma in Eastern Europe, and various other names around the world. These Hominoids are generally dis‐ missed as delusion or superstition by the bulk of mainstream scientists, but a growing number of serious researchers and specialists are investigating the obvious fact that these primates exist and have existed on Earth for millions of years. Groundbreaking work by specialists like the late Dr. Grover Krantz, Dr. Jeff Meldrum, and many others lends cre‐ dence to the mass of evidence that includes films, audio recordings, hair and scat samples, foot and body prints, distinctively broken tree limbs and animal bones, and other signs of exis‐ tence from these hair‐covered bipeds.

primate‐like of the four main types, with similarities to chimps and gorillas in physiology and temperament." (3) Alma/Kaptar types are also human‐ sized, at 5 to 7 feet tall and weighing 500 to 700 pounds, and also living in dense forests around the world, but at lower elevations than bigfoot/ sasquatch types. They are the most human‐like of the three large types, and I personally suspect these types will prove to be living Neanderthals. (4) Agogwe/Sedapa types are pygmy‐ sized at 3 to 4 feet tall and weighing 200 to 300 pounds, living in the thick sweeps of jungles that surround the earth along its equatorial regions. They seem to live in small groups or “tribes,” whereas the other three types are believed to function mostly as small independent family units. The key point to make about these animals, and about the many other variations of names given to them around the world, is that such names simply would not exist if the creatures they are meant to describe did not exist. Where there is so incredibly much smoke, described in details that correspond astonishingly wherever they are found, surely it means a fire is burning, a fire whose flames will even‐ tually reach and consume those who insist it can't be real.

(1) Bigfoot/Sasquatch are by far the most famous at 7 to 10 feet tall, weigh‐ ing 700 to 1000 pounds. They live in the deep, dense montane forests that surround the earth at high elevations in temperate latitudes. (2) Abominable Snowman/Yeti types are human‐sized but far more robust than humans, at 5 to 7 feet tall, weigh‐ ing 500 to 700 pounds. They seem to live only in valleys in the Himalayan Mountain ranges, a combined area as large as the U. S. They are the most

UFO Truth Magazine Conference Review By Rod Howarth

On November 16th 2013, UFO Truth Magazine run by Gary Hesletine presented his first con‐ ference in Holmfirth, West Yorkshire, in connec‐ tion to the magazine. Gary welcomed the audi‐ ence of around 80 people to the event and gave information on how to obtain UFO Truth Maga‐ zine. He then plodded on to interview Larry War‐ ren, who was a witness to the UFO incident that took place at RAF Bentwaters during December of 1980. Almost 33 years to the date.

A tin of chocolates and biscuits were freely passed around as well as free bottles of water. Certainly a woman’s touch and very nice to see. It gave the feeling we were all amongst friends. Gary’s was well supported by his wife and children who as‐ sisted with the event, photography and running a stall selling hats, mugs and T‐Shirts.

Larry went on to talk about the whole experience and the problems he faced after the incident and how it affected his life. He admitted that he took drugs and alcohol in an attempt to come to terms with what he had experienced after leav‐ ing Bentwaters. It was not until the 1990s before anyone supported Larry’s claims. A very success‐ ful book was written by Larry and Peter Robbins (Left At East Gate) describing the events that took place. Now… Larry is married and has a son of 12 who he focuses on very much. Gary took to the floor once more and mentioned he also use to work as a military police officer and thanked Larry for his presentation. A short 15 minute break and then we were fast tracked onto Dave Hodrien, chairman of Birmingham UFO Group.

Dave discussed the BUFOG website and went onto talk about alien abductions and the reptilian agenda. Gary thanked Dave for his interesting lecture and then it was time for a lunch break.

After lunch Gary promoted the magazine giving mention to Richard Dolan who has agreed to write an article for it. He also went onto mention about subscription and asked subscribers not to e‐mail it to their friends. He explained some of the funds from the magazine sales will be put aside for ufological investigation and research. Once again, another short 15 minute break and then Gary introduced his next lecturer. Tim Good took to the floor and introduced his new book ‘Earth ‐ An Alien Enterprise’. Tim talked about the Friendship Case, mentioning Lou Zinstag and that he had written a book with her in regards UFOs and it was his first attempt at writing about such things. Tim also discussed a case researcher Mar‐ garet Fry had investigated in regards her personal

Sighting of a landed UFO. Another favourite of Tim’s is the Holman Airforce Base incident where a UFO landed on the tarmac and a meeting be‐ tween extraterrestrials allegedly took place and was filmed. The footage was apparently sup‐ posed to have been added to a UFO documen‐ tary ‘UFOs ‐ It Has Begun’, only to be pulled at the last moment.

After Tim had finished his lecture, Gary pre‐ sented him with a lifetime achievement award. Tim, now 71 years of age continues to research the UFO phenomena and write books on the subject. Gary thanked him for his presentation and announced another short break. After which, Gary conducted his own lecture in regards to police procedures during UFO sightings, WWII sightings, the Terran Encounter, Rendlesham Forrest incidents, the Belgium UFO dogfight and the NASA STS75 tether incident. The event came to a close after Gary thanked the audience again. All in all, it was a very good day. However, Gary initially advertised two different lecturers who had obviously not attended the event for one reason or another, and were re‐ placed by Larry Warren and Tim Good. Unfortu‐ nately there was no mention as to why this was. I noticed Ben Emlin Jones an avid researcher was in attendance as well as Richard D. Hall accompa‐ nied by his girlfriend at their RichPlanet.net stall. Again it was nice to see the familiar faces, even Miles Johnson who was filming the event… A great day out… We await Gary’s next event, which is to be over two days next year...
