01:. FASHION PROJECTS 1.1 INVERSE

I N V E R S E

CONCEPT The fashion system follows trends that are generated and build in a skewed way, becoming an ephemeral system with programmed obsolescence. That is why the fashion industry is the third most polluting in the world. Seeking to avoid all this waste in an innovative way, the concepts of upcycling and retrofit became the base for the project. From these two concepts, the idea of rebuilding timeless and staples pieces of the feminine wardrobe emerged. The inverse collection seeks to translate patterns and forms from the past, adapting them to contemporary, innovative and differentiated pieces, reflecting a unique identity to the products. Through a historical study, a morphological analysis, a pattern study and a lot of experimentation along with a market, public and creative research the INVERSE collection was developed. It was identified that the sustainable market is in constant growing and the union of architecture, sustainability, design and staple pieces would be an innovative way to bring all those concepts into unity. And do all this by developing an innovative and modern product with fashionable and sustainable information within.

UPCYCLING

Upcycling is a process that can be repeated in perpetuity of returning materials back to a pliable, usable form without degradation to their latent value moving resources back up the supply chain. It becomes dually important. First, the practice reduces the amount of waste that we produce and ultimately goes into the ground for longer than any of us will be around. Secondly, it also reduces the need for new virgin material to be harvested as feedstock for new generations of product.

STAPLE PIECES

The fashion absorbs and reflects the flows of the world and through it are subjective experiences, economic, social, political and cultural factors of a whole generation are captured. In this way, a piece of clothing assumes a very important dimension in contemporary society, where it becomes an attribute that reintegrates and relates social practices and creates forms of communication. And some of these pieces of clothing gain higher value, remaining in the market for a longer period even with a troubled fashion of flowing trends. Despite the oldest and most diverse origins, these pieces transcend generations and cultures and remain alive, their meaning remains valid because their intrinsic philosophical and social ideas and values continue to represent a universal, deep and current value. Therefore, some staples pieces were chosen to act as a building being retrofitted, and they will be modified, tested and served as a base for the collection. The pieces were the BLAZER, the TRENCH COAT, the BLACK DRESS, the WHITE SHIRT and the DENIM.

MINIMALISM RETROFIT

The retrofit seeks the rebirth of the environment, reusing the space, making it more functional, modern and sustainable but without forgetting its main characteristics, taking into account the concept of history, memory and preservation of the place. And this concept will be the basis for the work since the staples pieces will be transformed, but taking into account their historical factors, their social importance, and maintaining their characteristics.

The minimalism is considered a way of life and emerged after the Second World War when the population had to change their usual customs and move to live only with the necessary. The movement seeks to escape from industry standards by employing conscious consumption. Therefore, minimalism is the escape of excesses in the search of a simpler and happier life. This concept exists in all areas, from architecture, design, photography, to fashion - in this one, it is related to conscious consumption with a wardrobe composed in a versatile form. For all of this and for its aesthetics, the minimalism has a great relation to the project and was one of the bases and inspirations for the collection.

MOODBOARD

DEVELOPMENT

As the concept is quite new and recreating pieces mainting their main structure is not that common it was necessary to develop an experimental process within the collection, to prove that everything could be done and to see how the patterns and fabrics worked together. That way, all the staple pieces selected were transformed in something new but maintaining their characteristics. The mood board above show how some of that process was done.

Two trends will be the base for the Inverse AW18 collection. The Industrial couture is a new approach, where casual wear is given as a fashion reform. The forms become smoothed, feminine, and at the same time architectural, based on utility and contemporaneity. The deconstructed classics with experimentation for building new pieces will be key and designers will start looking at rebuilding in a new way. The Substantial Design macro trend is based on sustainability, where the less will become even less, but meaning much more. Consumers will begin to value more and more products with sustainable characteristics. Natural and recycled materials will be the foundation, but with a more luxurious blend, assuming a refined quality. The palette tones are smoothed with a worn and industrial feel.

RETROFIT

DESCONSTRUCTED

SUBSTANCIAL

To see life under the opposite view where nothing is lost and everything is reused; create something new and better from old and discarded items; reverse the process through the transformation and renewal of fashion, saving resources and energy. Following these precepts, the INVERSE AW18 collection comes to show that reverse can often be the right side. In today's world where the industry devastates and wears the planet exorbitantly, where history has been lost with all the information and modernity thrown into the population. The collection breaks all these patterns, creating differentiated and innovative looks from staple pieces, maintaining the essence and history of these products and showing social-environmental awareness that reuses and puts fashion back to the level of sustainability Review concepts and models with a good deal of creativity and design techniques, using deconstructed and modern patterns, while maintaining the elegance of original attire. Using the necessary and translating the minimalist essence for contemporary fashion, the colour chart follows more basic and neutral tones, with less saturated and more classic tones. The most colourful nuances appear in earthy and pastel colours. The fabrics follow the ones used in the original pieces, with materials like gabardine, cotton, and denim. Inverse comes with a proposal of a reverse revolution that considers that being in fashion is to think about the planet and the future generations. Is to remember the history of fashion, but without forgetting the madness and the personality of it. Is using creativity to innovate and rebuild by remembering what really matters

1.2 LIMONE

MOODBOARD

CONCEPT The concept of the collection is related to the creative mind and the imaginary world. The main inspiration is childhood nostalgia and retro vibes. Thinking about that, the city of Cuba and the dolls world guided the collection in terms of colours and shapes. That way, the colour chart follows pastel and candy colours, with light tones of blue, green, pink and violet. The geometrical guides through the shapes and prints. Structured and fitted shapes and cuts dominate the collection together with A-line and voluminous shapes.

The SS17 story was developed in partnership with Limone Modas, a wholesale brand in Brazil and signed by the digital influencer Jade Seba. The collection had to be created thinking about the brand - what they already sold, their public, and their shapes. Together with the blogger vibes and what her followers and fans liked. It was a challenge because both of them - the brand and the blogger- had completely different thoughts about the collection and the pieces, but It was a success and everything got sold in 24 hours.
