D esigned in collaboration with architect and designer Fulvio De Simoni, the UP40 Crossover from Antonini Navi is the first of three models from the UP40 modular steel platform. The signature of this series is the control it hands to the owner from the very start of the project. It offers the choice of an open deck or enclosed bridge, but more importantly, owners can choose their preferred concept during the construction phase.

“This model is a modern reinterpretation of classic boats designed for a precise function: simple forms with a strong personality clad a versatile architecture open to customisation, designed to offer a simple and direct way to enjoy life at sea”, says Fulvio De Simoni.

Challenging convention With construction due to commence in September, the design focuses on two main decks that are connected by a half-deck containing a single helm station. The idea is for a contemporary take on a classic design, largely expressed by the cut of the bow.

“The unusual arrangement of the decks, with the wheelhouse area and foredeck set at a height midway between the main and upper decks, minimises the difference in height and creates continuity across the entire upper section of the boat”, says De Simoni. “[This turns] it into a huge terrace on the sea covering over 200m 2 , a sizeable portion of which is protected and shaded by the hard top.”

Customer customisation Other customisations include furnishing options for the exterior areas. The opportunity to have an infinity pool installed in the bow allows owners to create a solarium-like space that offers views and shelter when underway or at

anchor. Alternatively it can accommodate a table for al fresco dining and a sunbathing area.

The Enclosed Bridge model is more suited to colder climates and comes equipped with a superstructure that covers part of the upper deck in extensive glazed surfaces. What this model lacks in open-air living it more than makes up for with sheltered panoramic vistas.

With the Enclosed Bridge model, the owner’s suite can stretch up to 60m 2 with the addition of a private terrace. A further four double guest cabins are on the lower deck.

stern hangar for easy launch and recovery, while the second measuring almost 4m in length is stowed forward for use by the crew, with a recessed winched integrated in the gunwale.

Static and dynamic testing of the hull, hull lines and appendages was performed at the MARIN Maritime Research Institute in the Netherlands, simulating sea-keeping in up to extreme navigation conditions.

Large fuel tanks and a special focus on efficient cruising give the UP40 a range of over 5,000nm when cruising at 10kts. A top speed of 15kts gives the yacht pace when required.
