The park will work in two different areas, both with approximately 32,000 square meters disconnected by an expressway but, at the same time, connected by a footbridge. Both are located in an embankment area, built in 1972.

Urban modifications

PARK

BIKE LANE In order to facilitate access to the parks and connect disjointed bike lanes, the proposal is that the existing bike lanes in Beiramar Norte Avenue (1) continue and enter the Paralelo Mar Park to further connect with the existing bike lane on Hercílio Luz Avenue (2). The same happens with the proposed bicycle lane to the south side of the island. It will be connect with the north part, with the parks and with the downtown.

CHANNEL OPENING IN HERCILIO LUZ AVENUE It was proposed to open the channel as a way to bring water into the center. The water will be treated and will separate the space between the bike lane and the pedestrian path (3).

FORESTED SIDE WALK It was suggested the afforestation of the sidewalk that leads the community to the park (4), inviting and facilitating people’s access.

4 SHARED STREET The area above Paralelo Park (5) was demaged. It was included in the project because it is an important area for the connection of the park with the center. It has been suggested to elevate the street that tangentiates the areas, giving privilege to the pedestrians and calling the attention of those who are driving.

SEASIDE RESTAURANTS Seaside restaurants were proposed to attract locals and tourists who are used to go to Florianopolis mostly because of the beaches. Thus, they can know the park, cross the footbriedge and know the downtown.

Where the footbridge starts, before the embankment, there was a restaurant called Miramar. The restaurant was very attented by people that used to gather to watch the sunset at the famous Miramar pier.

Connections:

m Exhibition Hall of Memory of Florianópolis It was proposed to use the space below the footbridge as an area for exhibiting the materials that the House of Memory of Florianópolis has but due to the little space in its building is not exposed. In addition to this area there is a studio for varied activities.

Legislative Community

The footbridge will be build with a mixed structure of steel and concrete. Concrete columns and steel beams which provide greater spans.

The path of the footbridge will be covered with ecological wood, aesthetically referring to the old pier, but using sustainable material. The bike lane will be covered with light gray pigmented asphalt.

Vegetation Russélia - Russelia equisetiformis Aspargo pendente - Aspargus densiflorus “Sprengeri” It was chosen to use plants tolerant to salinity. They play an important role in the external look of the footbridge. The plant is located in large vases adjacent to the parapet of the footbridge, tending to fall out. Then there is the alternation between the concrete of the footbridge and the green of the plant.

Footbridge - Pier The footbridge ends up over the sea, like a pier. The exits to the Paralelo Mar Park are secondary, making the pier as an important area. In the pier area, there are “holes” that get hammocks, making the place more interactive and fun.

Illumination

Illumination happens through LED bulbs coupled in an area at the bottom of the parapet.

Paralelo Mar Park has facilities for physical activities such as multi-sport courts, tennis and soccer.

There are a place for walking and spaces for contemplation and rest, and a great area for skaters.

These attractions promise to keep the park moving, even it is located in an isolated area.

The Paralelo Park contains the area for food truck, positioned in the corner of the park, in order to facilitate the access of the public. The playground and fountain are side by side, ready to welcome the children. The civic square is located in an area of high visibility, with the Burle Marx’ palm trees in the background.

The choice of trees was made from the purpose of not competing with each other. They are grouped by species and purpose.

The trees chosen are resistant to salinity and adapt to dry and sandy soils. Most are perennial, with the exception of Flamboyant which is semi-deciduous (the leaves fall year-round, but not entirely).

8. Burle Marx Imperial Palm Trees - Palm trees are legacies of the Burle Marx landscaping project, executed at the inauguration of the South Bay embankment in 1972.

Illumination

There are three types of light pole through the Paralelo Park. The smaller ones, of 4.5m of height are arranged in the narrow paths, wich the maximum variation of distance between two light pole is 10 meters.

The second is the 6 meters light pole and helps lighting wider paths.

While 8 meters light pole (and 5 lamps at different heights) is responsible for lighting large spaces.

With the concern to protect the flora and the fauna the illuminations next to the great green areas are low.
