LADERA HOME Social housing / Artisan workshop | 159m2 | Tungurahua, Ecuador | 2022 Role: Junior Architect and Interior Designer | Revit - Sketch Design Phase - Construction Detailing - Town Planning Documentation - Interior Design - Rendering - Lumion AITMA Arquitectos PROJECT BRIEF Ladera Home is a single-family home located in the parish of Quisapincha, Ambato, EC. with a land area of 414m2 ​​ and a construction area of ​​159m2. The topography maintains a positive slope of 7.81%, while the larger side of the land is oriented to the east-west. The family that will inhabit this house is made up of 5 members; wife, husband and children. The clients brief included 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a living area, kitchen, dining and a workshop for handmade footwear. The project aims to provide spaces to sleep, cook, eat, rest and enjoy the views that the land offers as well as spaces for a family business .

ground floor plan The project has been conceived through sketches and diagrams that refer to: the positive slope of the land; the client’s needs in terms of their activities and perception of the interior space; the limited budget; the sun path; the views that each of the spaces had to produce; the immediate context; the wind; the materiality; and the land use requirements delimited by its frontal and lateral setbacks.

ground floor plan The social areas such as the living room, dining room, kitchen maintain a open plan while enjoying views of the external patios, the private areas such as bedrooms gradually expand to the north, seeking the necessary privacy for each space, but orienting their openings to the west to receive direct sunlight in the evening.

north elevation In addition to this, one more block is developed on the upper floor, managing to cover the stairs and the study area. The remaining space would be dedicated to once again contemplate the landscape provided by the land.

PROJECT BRIEF A unique topography was the main feature of this project. Looking to develop a one story house, the distribution is spread and embedded on the terrain on its natural contours. A cantilever to the main street is the result of the site conditions and a private central courtyard provides an external connection for a corridor and the master bedroom. Towards the highest point of the site, a generous backyard with a BBQ area, exterior living, dining areas and native vegetation are proposed to compliment the connectivity with internal living areas of the house. The overall project is accessible through a paved ramp due to its characteristic topography. As is typical to most of the residential and commercial projects, the main materials were reinforced concrete slabs, brick walls, and elements of the site such as stone and local timber .

During the concept design phase, it was possible to define clear zones and connections to external gardens and social areas.
