Favorite summer activity: Picnicking during Holland's summer months. Best place in the city on a summer day: Scheveningen beach; it's a fun, startling juxtaposition of scenery and a top spot to people-watch. Favorite summer pastime: Cycling to one of The Hague's many city farms or the beach with my husband and year-old son on the weekends. Summer vacation destination: Paris. Favorite summer treat: Ice cream. It's my favorite all-the-time treat, but it's more socially acceptable in the summer. The best ijs shop in town is right in my neighborhood, Spijssalon on Weimarstraat. Current style icon: Brigitte Bardot. She's effortlessly stunning and has a look all her own. I love style and fashion that use past mavens as muses. Summer trend to try: Rompers. I've never before dared to don one, but I just bought up a few and love them! Summer trend to avoid: Short shorts; leave some room for the imagination. Enough said. Go-to summer outfit: I just bought two ridiculously pretty, brightly hued, 50s-inspired dresses from ModCloth.com that get Marilyn Monroe-dramatic on windy bicycle rides, a pair of heels, and sunnies. Favorite local shopping destinations: Van Peet in The Hague, and Via Mio in Wassenaar/Leiden. Favorite online shopping destinations: I am a very vocal fan of ModCloth.com for new clothing. They ship internationally, have most excellent customer service, and their regular, varied, and genuine engagement with their online followers makes it easy to forget they're not a local establishment. Tea & Tulips (teaandtulips.bigcartel.com) is an unpretentious, one-stop shop for vintage; Steffy Kuncman, excruciatingly talented fashion blogger, also is the shop's owner and sole clothing model. She keeps it quirky, never overprices, and is unwaveringly enthusiastic about, well, everything. I love a shop with personality, and both of these have it!
The back to school season is upon us! As a child I loved back to school shopping with my mom and my sister. It meant we loaded up on new backpacks, notebooks, and everything else that screamed ‘Back to School’. Even today, although I am well past school age, I always find it inspiring to see what designers and retailers come up with year after year. This month I compiled my top picks for the back to school season and interviewed a current student here in The Hague. I hope my picks are useful and help prepare you for the hectic time ahead.

6. ALARM CLOCK be sure to wake up on time with this retro alarm clock!
Let’s talk tube tops and shorts. It’s a look tons of women sport during the summer. Some can pull it off really well, while others don’t quite get it right. Here is my formula to make this look work for you regardless of body type. You’ll need a nice non-see through one that fits snug, but not too tight. You don’t want anything hanging out. Bonus if it’s a bodysuit. It will make it much easier to tuck into your shorts!
SHORTS Go for a pair that has a mid to high rise. This will elongate the leg and flatter your figure by showcasing your waist. Make sure the shorts are not too tight or too short.

How to Wear
I so wish I could be here for the upcoming fall season, but after my summer travels through five countries I am ready to head back to the Sunshine State. I am so thankful for my time in The Hague and for the opportunity to write for such a diverse paper. I hope to stay in touch and will surely know what is going on by keeping up with The Underground happenings. You can read about all my travels and keep up with my daily style tips and design inspirations on my blog www.thethingswedidntbuy.com.
ACCESSORIES Pile on a necklace and some bracelets. Wear the look with flat sandals or wedges because we all know heels are not an option in The Hague. If it cools down at night add a cozy cardigan and lastly complete the look with a bright summer bag.
