Why are you becoming a teacher? What influenced you to journey down this career path? What grade(s) do you want to teach and why? Where will you teach (i.e. city only, rural setting, up north, etc...) and what are your expectations of the profession?
I am becoming a teacher because I love working with and being around children. They have such a unique and uncomplicated way of seeing the world and simplifying it for those of us that have forgotten how. My parents are also teachers, and it doesn't matter where we are, students are always recognizing them and approaching us with smiles on their faces. They always have memories to share and I was deeply moved by their desire to express how much my parents meant to them. I attended Red Deer College and completed the Visual Art Diploma program last year and I was proud of my accomplishment. Being an artist however, can be a very lonely, solitary career path, and being a sociable person, I knew that this was not what I wanted. I had always thought that being a teacher would be the best way through which I could build relationships with people as well as being able to express and share my passion for art. My ultimate goal would be to teach art and/or music at the high school level. I feel as though high school students need the most support from their teachers in order to prepare them for the often difficult decisions they have to make. I would be happy teaching in any setting, hopefully one that has a strong fine art foundation. I expect to be dedicated to my students as much as humanly possible and to be able to facilitate their learning needs while simultaneously developing a meaningful relationship with each and every one of them.
