We’re going to talk about our city: Bojano. Founded about in 300 b.C. by the Samnites, Bojano is one of the oldest city in the South of Italy. The Samnites had an extensive territory (Molise, Campania and Puglia) and for this central positon, Bojano became the most important city of Molise’s Valley. The Samnites fought against the Roman’s Army and in Bojano there was a critical battle. After the collapse of the Samnites’society Bojano had a crisis until the first part of Middle Age. In 1045 the Longobard came down the North Italy and arrived in Molise headed by Rodolfo De Moulins. He became Bojano’s Count in 1053 and gave to our city many riches. Rodolfo and his family lived in the castle of Civita Superiore (a little village situated above Bojano). Today we can see the ruins of the castle, because it was destroyed after a great earthquake.
This is our coat of arms. The legend says‌.that an oxen, that is the symbol of Bojano, and from which Bojano inherited the name, led a group of young, towards the feet of the Matese Massif where they settled in the huge and fertile plain

In the public garden in the centre of Bojano we can find mosaics, fragments of statues, crockery and remains of roads, all evident signs of the roman occupation

Bojano
In the Longobard period Bojano became the settlement of a Castaldo. With the arrival of the Normans it became a County. The testimonies of this period are the old village of Civita Superiore and the castle of the Count De Moulins. This reconstruction shows the castle on the top, now there are only old ruins
Situated below the Matese Mount, our town is the fourth city of Molise. There are many rivers and the clossness to the Mountains gives Bojano a horrible climate, very wet also in summer. Bojano was rebuilt three times because there were violent earthquakes. So here we can see two parts of Bojano, the old part (where there are the churches) and the new part (where there are a lot of shops and modern houses). The centre of Bojano is Vittoria square where the people walk and on Saturday there is a market. Near the square there are a lot of bars, the city hall and the cathedral
The name of the cathedral is in honour of Saint Bartolomeo, the patronal saint of the city. On 25th of August we celebrate the Patronal Day with a big concert and a fair, at the end of the day everbody waits for the fireworks. Here, there are many other churches ( San Biagio, Sant’Erasmo e Martino e Santa Maria del Parco).

Bojano’ s territory is very large, it includes other four little towns: Monteverde, Castellone, Pitti and Civita Superiore. Monteverde is a little agricultural centre, Civita is above Bojano on the top of a mount and here, there is a fantastic view of Bojano and all the valley. Bojano hasn’t got a big economy, our little commercial society is founded on the agricultural factory. There are a lot of food factories that product our typical dish that makes Bojano very famous for this special food: Mozzarella. Mozzarella is a fresh, white cheese and we export this special food in the whole Italy. But there are other specialities , we product different types of cheese and pasta.
Bojano
We love Bojano, because is a little, quiet town; but it has a little problem. Sometimes it is the most boring city of the world! So to spend our time we usually practice sports or go out with friends. In Bojano there are a football stadium (where every sunday the football team of the city plays) and the Basketball Centre. When we go out, we pass all time in the square or in a little park where we can walk and talk since the night
Thanks for the attention 2 A I.T.E.
