María Simó is an illustrator with a multitasking heart. She enjoys likewise design, painting, writing and art research. Self-taught character and critical thinking. An extensive practice in the use of traditional and digital illustration techniques. And, above all, the cultural base and both theory and practice of creative thinking, developed in Fine Arts, which allows her to approach any project firmly. With the boldest freelance spirit, she is used to work skillfully according to budget and deadlines, producing multidisciplinary projects from scratch, managing accounts and presenting her work to the world. She believes in learning by doing, and is chasing the opportunity to continue her integral growth.

La banda Tardor contrató mis servicios para elaborar el arte de su segundo trabajo, Una ciutat invisible. Establecimos una pauta de trabajo muy participativa, con revisiones periodicas del avance del proyecto, que implicaba desarrollo gráfico-conceptual, creación de ilustraciones, y labores de diseño, maquetación y preparación para imprenta. En las siguientes páginas puede seguirse el proceso de trabajo hasta el resultado final.
The band Tardor hired my servicies in the realization of the art for their second album, Una ciutat invisible. We established a very participative work guidelines, with regular meetings to track the project advances, which implies conceptual graphic-development, creation of illustrations, design and layout works and file preparation for prints. In the next pages the process of work can be followed until the final results.

DISEÑO GRÁFICO ARTE DE DISCO 2014 —

Tras la cumplimentación de un cuestionario visual online que diseñé para determinar las preferencias estéticas de la banda, la primera fase del proyecto se centró en la creación de piezas gráficas, ilustraciones y pinturas, que expresaran las intenciones del álbum y sirvieran como materia prima al diseño.
After the fulfillment of a visual survey I designed in order to establish the aesthetics preferences of the band,, the first stage of the project was the creation of graphic pieces, illustrations and paintings, to express the motivation of the album and to serve as raw material at the design stage.
Una ciutat invisible remite a una ciudad vivida, interiorizada. Representamos esta idea por la figuración de una ciudad orgánica, con raíces, que crece en nuestro interior. Para reforzar el concepto se crearon dos figuras, masculina y femenina, para dos portadas alternativas. En el interior, el propio disco funciona como un corazón para ese cuerpo, donde late y reproduce la experiencia urbana. El concepto del logo alude al mismo sentido de contemplación del propio viaje.
Una ciutat invisible comply with the idea of a lived and internalised city. This was represented through the creation of an organic city, with roots, which grows in ourselves. To enforce that concept, two figures, one masculine and one femenine, were made for two alternative covers. Inside, the disc works as a heart for this body, where it beats and reproduces the urban experience. The concept of the logo points the same way to an observation of the own journey.
A dysfunction in color vision of Àlex, singer of the band, who has deuteranopia could have been a handicap. However, it was assimilated in the graphic approach of the album. We conceived a color palette inspired by the Mediterranean, based on complementarity, so that the word “invisible” in the title could not be perceived by Àlex, as shown in the picture below.

Una disfunción en la visión del color de Àlex, cantante de la banda, que padece deuteranopia, podría haber sido un handicap. Sin embargo, se incorporó al planteamiento visual del disco. Concebimos una paleta de color de inspiración mediterránea, basada en la complementariedad, a fin de que la palabra “invisible” del título, no pudiera ser percibida por Àlex, tal y como se aprecia en la imagen inferior.
Adicionalmente a los contenidos del album, se diseñó material publicitario como el cartel para conciertos, banners, etc. También elaboramos una serie de ilustraciones sobre imágenes de Valencia, Etterbeck y París, lugares de residencia de los integrantes de la banda. Estas ilustraciones se adaptaron a un formato postal, en consonancia con todo el concepto previamente desarrollado.
In addition to the album contents, some advertising material was designed: concerts poster, banners, etc. Also, we prepared a series of illustration which portrayed the cities of Valencia, Etterbeck and Paris, where the members of the band live. These illustrations were adapted to a postal card format, in line with all the concept previously developed.

MIL es la muestra de ilustración que organiza el Colectivo ILUSTRA de forma bianual. Para su tercera edición, celebrada en diciembre, confeccioné un sitio web sobre Wordpress a partir de una plantilla de ThemeForest. A través de un estilo one·page navigation, con efecto parallax, funciones responsive, formulario integrado y links a las redes sociales, se trataba de promocionar con un estilo simple y alegre el evento, de ofrecer la mayor cantidad de información con un sólo vistazo.
MIL is the illustration fair that the Colective ILUSTRA organized biannually . For its third edition, held in December, I composed a website on Wordpress from a template ThemeForest. Through a one-page navigation with parallax effect, responsive functions, integrated contact form, and links to social networks, the aim was to promote the event in a simple and cheerful style, providing the most amount of information at a glance.

Promsite es un proyecto de CDMon, que ofrece hosting grautito a webs creativas en diseño y contenido. Sr. Gordo, NEO2 y 40Fakes, entre otros, forman parte de su jurado. Mi sitio web personal, construida sobre Indexhibit como una tarjeta de visita, donde todos los elementos se presentan en pantalla, ha obtenido su patrocinio por tres años consecutivos, desde 2011.
Promsite is a CDMon project, which offers a free hosting service to websites that are creative at their design and contents. Sr. Gordo, NEO2 and 40Fakes, among other, are part of their jury. My personal website, built on Indexhibit as a business card, where all elements are disposed in sight, has obtained their sponsorship for three years in a row from 2011.
