Introduction: Animal Photography

We as humans once belonged to the same diaspora that animals did. Perhaps this is why we love living close to nature or rush towards her the moment we get an opportunity. Research shows that we are still cavemen at heart although we live in city houses. The basic wiring in our brains and how we interact are the same as thousands of years ago. Nature is where we still belong. Animal or more popularly called wildlife photography is about capturing a split second, when the light and the animal behavior come together to create an emotional image. Whether your subject is a wild animal in the jungle or a pet/domesticated one at home, their behavior is usually the same. More than a taste of adventure and accomplishment animal photography also offers a sense of belongingness to the planet. Having patience, persistence and perseverance are the three key parameters to be good at animal photography. Presented here-within are a few best photographers from the genre whose admirable work should inspire you for sure.

Demetrio Bruno Mosorrofa, Italia nikonclub.it/gallery/index.php?module=login&method=iam

facebook.com/demibruno

I'm from Mosorrofa - a hillside village, NE of Reggio Calabria. I approached the world of photography from a very young age with the classic film cameras, and then with the advent of digital photography I migrated to a Nikon D3000 with a Tamron 70/300 mm. Presently I own a Nikon D7100 and a Nikon D750. With the former I mainly do birdlife and macro, using a 150/600 mm Tamron and a 105 mm Nikkor respectively

With this series of images I have tried to summarize what photography means to me: a desire to discover, a desire to excite, a taste to capture (Helmut Newton). I hope I have succeeded. I leave you with this famous phrase: "If the photo is not good, it only means that you were not close enough" - Robert Capa 10

Luca Tambella Macerata, Italia

facebook.com/lucatambellaphotography instagram.com/luca_tambella_photo/ flickr.com/photos/lutanik/ www.lucatambellaphotography.it

I was born in Macerata in 1970. From a young age photography was one of my main interests. A lover of hiking and the mountains, the camera although a compact, has never been missing in my equipment. Over the years photography I would do merely for documentary purpose has turned into a true passion. I am continuously in a quest for the emotions of nature.

I love traveling in the Arctic and hiking in my area, admiring the mountains that surround me and the fauna that populates them in any season and time of day. Living at the foot of the Sibillini Mountains allows me, even in the middle of the night, to move outside and encounter the unique natural spectacles and that way I am able to express my own emotions through my shots. Every sunrise, every sunset, every storm, and every season blesses the eyes of those who can admire the unique and unrepeatable snapshots. Being able to capture these images is the greatest prize for every lover of photography. 22

Maria Cristina Pasotti Milano, Italia

facebook.com/mariacristina.pasotti instagram.com/cristinapasotti/ 500px.com/mariacristinapasotti

A graduate in languages, I was employed for several years as a translator and started photographing just to keep memory of my travels abroad. I started photographing in digital format about 5 years ago and now my favorite photographic genres are architecture, street, minimalism and naturalistic photography.

About 2 years ago I started exhibiting my photographs in several collective exhibitions in Italy and abroad. My last exhibition was in a gallery in Rue de Seine in Paris (Galerie Etienne de Causans) during the Paris PhotoAward 2019 and my photo was sold to a Parisian collector. Moreover, I published 2 portfolios in the magazine Idea Visiva, run by the FIAF’s President Giorgio Tani. It’s the third time that I am publishing my photos in WeBook Animals and I’m very thankful to Mario Buncuga and the team. 34

Maritza Polignone Bodio, Svizzera

www.maritzapolignone.ch facebook.com/MaritzaPolignonePhoto/ instagram.com/realcasperphotography/

Since I was a child I have had a great love for animals and for photography. On Christmas 1987, my parents gave me my first camera, a small automatic roller shutter and from that day on I never stopped shooting.

switched to analog reflex cameras and then to digital reflex cameras, where my first training in computer science helped me a lot for the postproduction of RAW shots with Photoshop. In 2018 I realized my dream and I started offering my services as photographer for animals at home (RealCasper). My mission is to make sure that every owner is able to look into the eyes of their pet, and make their bonding eternal. 46

Paola Tedoldi Milano, Italia

facebook.com/paola.tedoldi instagram.com/paulateddy63/ flickr.com/photos/160939544@N06/

My name is Paola Tedoldi, I'm from Milan. Traveling has always been my passion. I always photographed during my travels I had always been photographing during my travels but I would always use my camera in Auto mode. In September 2017 I took a basic course and from that moment on I became passionate enough to buy my first camera.

I then did two more courses and, in the course of time, I understood that the subjects I loved to photograph were animals. I always loved photography but initially I would not observe the details. Gradually I delved deeper and started learning the art of seeing things around me. Lately I have also been approaching the other genres of photography - street and landscapes particularly - because photography is one thing that has never stopped evolving. 58

Ruth Chudaska-Clemenz Finsterwalde, Germany

facebook.com/ruth.chudaskaclemenz 500px.com/shadows

I got fascinated by photography very early in life. My father gave me my first camera at the age of eight. During my high school I met a professional photographer who showed me the essentials and lent me his Nikon -that is when I held the first professional camera in my hands. He also published my photos when I was 18. Soon it became a dream for me to own a Nikon for myself.

Since then it has been more than 30 years. I did not follow his way of being a professional photographer because I wanted to be free in my decisions about what to shoot and what not. For me pressure brings your creativity to a dead-end. But the fascination for photography never completely left me. After having a long experience with analog Nikons I switched to the digital camera a few years ago, and with all its features I now feel like getting my dreams fulfilled. I own professional gear and try constantly to improve my skills and to learn new and interesting things about photography and post processing every day . Professionally I work as a psychiatrist, an expert in testimonies for legal authorities in Germany. 70

Souvik Basu Cooch Behar, India

facebook.com/souvikbasu1987 instagram.com/souvikbasu1987/ souvikbasu1987@gmail.com

My name is Souvik Basu. My native city is Cooch Behar, West Bengal in India. I am a passionate photographer. I specially love to click the activities of wildlife of the surroundings. I am also a photographic contributor in the international news papers & magazines. I have been well appreciated with monetary rewards and accolades including awards & certificates.

Since 2015, I was inclined towards photography, specializing mainly in wildlife. I started with a semi dSLR and the never ending urge to click better pictures and devote more time compelled me to leave my job and impregnate myself into this beautiful world of lenses and cameras. In 2016, I bought my first dLSR. My confidence grew gradually, I held my head high and never lost hope and struggled through all the hurdles that came along the way in this journey. I do cherish every moment of it and vouch to continue the same for the rest of my life. It’s wonderful and fascinating journey which has multiplied my fondness for Wildlife. But, to be honest, all the success that I have received in this meagre span of time is because of the support and love of my parents without which I would have still been struggling. So, whatever I am today is because of my parents and I owe a lot to them which can never be repaid. 82
