WePhoto B&W 2019 - Vol 6 Dear all, I am very proud to present this collection of some of the best works in Black and White under our banner that is fondly called - The Series. Over the time, thanks to the continuous help and support of our many likeminded colleagues - who the group draws its strengths from - that today we have created multiple platforms and thematic pages to represent the various genres in photography. Today WePhoto group has the widest presence across Facebook representing almost every possible genre of photography. As of date there are 12 thematic pages, with picture boards on Pinterest, a dedicated web portal and more than 90 books published on issuu.com. This annual collection called - The Series - is made of eBooks each belonging to a specific photographic genre, and includes the artwork of several great authors from Italy and abroad. The one in your hands is the sixth thematic book dedicated to Black & White Photography. Black & White Introduction Black and White (B&W) Photography belongs to an altogether different era and the interesting part is that the art form has not only survived all this long, it is thriving with innovations taking place every next time. Seems as if man is finding it difficult to come out of its spell. B&W comes with a rich heritage in the form of works of Ansel Adams, Henri CartierBresson, Edward Weston etc, who created masterpieces out of the constraints of equipment, tools and above all - color. But absence of the latter evidently came to their advantage and helped them see what would not be visible in a colored world. Colors dominate frame, its aspects and elements; and so a B&W photographer will rather focus on the potentials of placement, shape, pattern, texture, tonal contrast and above all flow and quality of light. B&W photography is way beyond mere conversion of a color photo to grayscale. It is about creation of fine art objects from the scene around us. B&W is inspiring, ethereal and will remain forever.

ANTONIO SANCHEZ Seville, Spain facebook.com/Antonio-Sanchez-Marcos-1739818262993147/

By profession I am a physicist specializing in electronics, and I have always been passionate about photography. In the beginning of my photographic journey, architecture was the first thing that appealed to me the most.

But during my trips in search of places and cities of interest, I discovered a combination that today is my photographic priority and is what I call social-architecture or Architestreet. The combination of architecture and people that describe and fit in a certain rural or urban environment. I think the combination of both is the best description that the viewer can have of a place and the sensations thy become conscious of. It is not easy to combine both of these elements successfully, because, while finding appropriate perspectives and light on an architectural element, it is challenging for the photographer to also frame a subject that provides information about the place, in the same style of street photography, and describe something of human interest. It requires a lot of practice, patience and perseverance 10

BRIGITTE FEIJEN Eindhoven, Netherlands facebook.com/Photography-Brigitte-793724404041820/

All my life I have had a passion for photography. In front of the camera when I was younger and now behind it. In photography I can really do my thing, put my creativity to the best use especially with my eye for detail. And then the best results follow

I love to shoot people, common people and not just beautiful models. Its not the outside that interests me, but their character, their soul. Every person has something beautiful inside... It's up to the photographer to see it and make it sparkle in the picture. I hope you will enjoy watching my work. With love, Brigitte 22

DEBORAH MARCHESE RAGONA Roma, Italia

facebook.com/deborah.marcheseragona instagram.com/debby1261

I photograph what attracts my attention, oftentimes the small details. I have a fondness for rusty iron objects, gears, machinery.

I often look around, trying to stop the moment‌ I look for beauty in everyday life, a mirror reflection in a puddle, or in the rearview mirror of my car, a sunset in a very common city park. I love traveling, going to the beach, and above all, live life in the open air‌ every occasion is good to take these small moments home. Photos for me must convey emotions, I'd like to improve more and more, to do it better. 34

EMANUELE DI PAOLO Cuneo, Italia

facebook.com/emanuele.d.paolo instagram.com/emanuele_dp/?hl=it flickr.com/people/mad_shot/

Hi, I'm Emanuele, an amateur photographer from Cuneo. I am 56 years old and I took my first photographs at the age of 16 with an Asahi Pentax camera, gifted to me by my father.

From the magic of film I switched to digital and recently to iPhonegraphy. I am passionate about photographing people, on the stages of theaters as they dance, on the catwalks where fashion shows are held or portray them in a moment of their lives. For this reason I prefer the natural or ambient light that best expresses what I want to show through my photographs. Even today I think I have a lot to learn and for this I participate in workshops and seminars. I am always open to comparison as long as it is constructive, I love simplicity in life as I believe it always produces the best results. 46

FABRIZIO FONTANA Chiasso, Svizzera

fotocineclubchiasso.ch

I was trained in economics and then, after a brief work experience in the field, decided to move in to the world of art, creativity and education. Actually, I got to study anthropology at the Comuna Baires, while observing the works at a drama school in Milan, and I got so influenced that I decided to shift to Paris, where I could give continuity to my studies. While attending the school of Decroux, by Philippe Gaulier and Jacques Lecoq, I approached the theatrical and cinematographic exposure, and started my career both as an actor and as an assistant in editing

Not going at length I would only wish to underline some rendezvouses that have profoundly marked me. Among these, meeting with Federico Fellini and Marcello Mastroianni were fundamental to me. The approach to photography, although initially financially straining, was passed on to me by my brother, a professional photographer at the time; and ever since has never abandoned me as a passion. Fascinated in particular by William Klein, Sebastiao Salgado and Henry CartierBresson, black and white is currently the photographic expression that most attracts me. The street life has always driven my curiosity and interest in discovering life and letting myself be stimulated by the other expressive forms, whether photographic and non-photographic. 58

FULVIO CRISTALLINI Roma, Italia

fulviocristallini.com instagram.com/fulviocristallini_photographer/ facebook.com/fulvio.cristallini/

I was born in 1977 in Rome where I still live and work as a Project Manager in the ICT field. Thanks to my passion for travel, I am fortunate to find myself in the places that are always new, wonderful and interesting to capture.

My genres are, in fact, landscapes, travel and street with some experiences in the shooting of models. The first photos I took date back to the early 90s thanks to my father's passion who taught me the rudiments on exposure and composition; after years of idling with photography, I picked up a digital camera (a Nikon D3200) in 2009 and since then I have tried to improve my images more and more by trying to create my own style, a signature, something that conveys my vision of world in the photos I make. Taking pictures for me is the same as looking at the world; only when I look at a scene through the viewfinder of the device can I catch seemingly hidden nuances and accents. 70

LEONARDO RICCI Sant’Arcangelo di Romagna, Italia

I am a 57 year old amateur photographer with great passion for black and white.

I love photography for my fascination for being able to seize the moments of time forever. I firmly believe that every moment is filled with eternal light and it must be responsibility as humans to capture them in the frame of time to be remembered in future. I join long photography walks and eventually find myself reviving them in my own shots later. I have participated in several photographic exhibitions related to the Marche landscapes. I want to give face to the emotions through my photographs. 82
