Editorial Team / Readazione Mario Bunčuga: Editor Mario Bunčuga: Art Director Pankaj Anand: Proof Simone Vivaldo: Minimal Group Leader
Dear all, I am very proud to introduce our new collection ‘The Series’. It was not so long ago that we had launched the first eBook that included the photographic work of the 15 administrators, who at that time were contributing to manage the ‘WePhoto’ group. Since then, we have published more than 50 eBooks, a special edition work called ‘Calendar 2015’ and two calendars in 2016. The Series is made up of different eBooks, each of them related to a specific photographic genre. The one in your hands is the second thematic book on Portrait Photography. Every year we bring together the best authors from Italy and abroad sharing their works at our WePhoto Group. This sequence of the finest images in portraiture is a result of same endeavour from us. . This one is the fourth volume of Minimal Series. . We hope you will enjoy their art, subscribe to our editions and help us spread the word.

In today’s overly photographed world the simplistic style of minimal photography brings a big relief to the eye. Artistically speaking, minimalism depends on a single fundamental principle of keeping it simple every time using minimum amount of compositional elements, separated by shape, color, and line. Minimalism being a very subjective style is open to interpretations. It may convey a concept or an idea, provoke an emotional response, or provide a unique visual experience. You need an eye to create a minimalistic image so as to decide what all to include and what not to. This art compels you to view the world differently through the lens and challenges you to look beyond the obvious for hidden photographic opportunities. Mario Buncuga Novembre 2016

ZUCCHI LORENZO Milano, Italy flickr.com/photos/shyish/albums
I was born in Parma, Emilia, where I lived for nearly 30 years. Thereafter I moved to Milan where I slowly started developing interest in photography, spending hours and hours exploring the suburbs over the weekends. I gave myself the nickname -Shy Photographer, paying homage to Jack Carroll’s novel. *winks* Later on I graduated to a level when photography coupled with traveling became my prime passion and I attempted to capture the soul of places I would visit. My eyes became impassioned about details in the things around us that were not easily visible at first sight. Now I am being recognized for my minimal style, even though I’d like to explore other fields of photography. 10

I began photography with the occasional use of iPhone camera to take snapshots and gradually I have seen this grow into a passion. I like to shoot still life, such as things in the corner silently telling their own stories. In my view a chair, a bicycle, a wall and windows - they all have old traces from their history that needs to be heard. I still love to take pictures with mobile phone during random walks and preserve those moments. 22

LEA DE MEULENAERE Brussels, Belgium facebook.com/ldemeulenaere
facebook.com/ledemephoto/?fref=ts instagram.com/lea.demeulenaere/
I was born in Brussels, Belgium. I am a teacher by profession and I teach Dutch language to adults. I've been raised with photography. My father was an amateur photographer. He developed and enlarged his photos and as a kid I helped him with different jobs. I started photography about 5 years ago as a tribute to my father who was very ill before he passed away. I prefer Minimalism because it is open to a lot of creativity. The simplicity in the art occupies space in my mind and I see things in a simple way. Small, insignificant things are very important in everyday life. You take notice of them and they will delight you. Seeing is the essence of photography in general. My motto is to first see, then shoot and be hopeful to get the best shot ever. My camera (I never go out without it) is my best buddy. I am administering various Minimalism groups on Facebook and that gives me an opportunity to see and judge different works and eventually learn from them. 34

LUCA PICCINI BASILE Udine, Italy, facebook.com/luca.pb.37
I am from Udine and am 49. Initially, photography was just a means to show reality in another form, making it into an abstract, even if it was unrecognizable. Then, gradually, an innate (and unexpected, since at school time this had never been my thing) interest in geometry and architecture drew me towards Urban & Architectural Minimalism. 46

SOLO MICHELE Venezia, Italy .facebook.com/solomichele
Born 52 years ago between the sea and the lagoon of Venice I always cultivated my passion for photography for the reminder of my travel moments, as a necessity of profession, or simply for pleasure. But deep inside of my heart I keep the colors and flavors of my homeland -unique and precious as a pearl in the jewelry- called Venice. My homeland is a rare combination of history, culture, traditions and people from distant origins, offering to the world its immortal fragrance. These ten shots being presented here are a part of the series "The Colors of Lagoon" that I captured during my most exciting trips into the color of everyday life. I considerer this as a heritage to all humanity. 58

MARIO BUNCUGA Brescia, Italy wephotogroup.eu 500px.com/mariobunuga www.facebook.com/mario.buncuga flickr.com/photos/89699256@N00/
I love to explore through photography the aspects of reality that generally escape our sight. Adults are not used to observing. At later stages in life we claim to have had a better representation of reality, more personalized and unified, that does not involve us, attract us or surprise us anymore. The photographer rediscovers the "vision" of a child and manages to marvel at this wonder of light, color and shadows. "Minimal" to me means getting into a scene, observe, and manage to extract from a perceptual field the elements of color and form. And every time I shoot, I think I could "get closer" to isolate the desired elements even more specifically until I got the ESSENCE of the object. And every time I fail to do so I am vehemently disappointed. 70

CHRISTOPHE STAELENS Ghent, Belgium flickr.com/photos/143575226@N05/
I live in Belgium, near Ghent. My wife’s birthplace is by the coast where my parents-in-law still live, and therefore I often go to the seashore. I always make time to go out and take pictures along the coast, oftentimes even crossing the border. There are some great objects good for minimal photography along the French coastline. I sincerely started taking photos only a year ago when a friend of mine suggested me to buy a dSLR over a compact camera that I was then owning. It didn’t take me long to experiment with ND filters and long exposures, because I always loved the silky water effect, the movement of clouds and the capture of time in a single frame… Lately, I have discovered some different aspects of photography such as street and architecture. But no matter what I am shooting, whether landscapes, people or buildings, unintentionally I would capture things as simple as possible. I’m honored to have a chance to share my photos with you. Feel free to follow me on Flickr, where I spend a lot of time and call it a great source of inspiration. 82
