WePhoto Portrait 2019 - Vol 9 Dear all, This is yet another proud moment for us to be releasing the next edition in Portrait Photography under our banner called - ‘The Series’. WePhoto Group was founded in the year 2014, and since then we have come this far out of our sheer passion for this art. Over the time, thanks to the continuous help and support of many likeminded colleagues of mine - who have been as enthusiast as me contributing to this cause - that today we have created many platforms and thematic pages to represent the various classifications in photography. Today WePhoto group has the widest presence across Facebook representing almost every possible genre of photography. As of date there are thematic Facebook pages, along with the picture boards on Pinterest, a dedicated web portal and more than 90 books published on issuu.com already. The books are simultaneously available on Apple Books too. This annual collection called - The Series - is made of eBooks each belonging to a specific photographic genre, and includes the artwork of several authors from Italy and abroad. The one in your hands is the ninth thematic book exclusive to Portrait Photography. Apart from the e-version these publications are available in the form of coffee table books as well. Portrait Photography

For us, the human beings, there could be nothing more ‘personal’ than a worthy portrait. You look through a pair of eyes and find every single person hiding some emotions deep within. Making of a portrait involves intricate techniques, observant eyes, and a creative mind because a portrait is not supposed to be merely an image; it rather has to hold the essence of the individual personality. Whether it is a gorgeous girl with languid eyes, a rude old man with his skin marked by time, or a child with sad eyes, their portrait has to strike the conscience of a viewer. It has to make them lose their heart. Our job as a photographer is to seize the dream of that girl and make the viewer feel the sourness of the old man’s suffering. Presented here within is a collection of some of the best works of our time.

S i n ce m y c h i ld h o o d d ays I h a ve love d photography. Back then I would play with my Agfa, but it is only a few years ago that I have rediscovered my great passion for this art.

The thought process of the pictures I make is not easy to describe. It feels as if I get an intuition of what I want to click and then I keep looking for the right situation, but when it does eventually arrive, I will not settle for simply a picture; I will see that my image belongs to me; as if I wanted to talk through the photo. With the Street my dialogue is continuous; I enter into the characters, in the daily scenes and I render them alive 10

MARIATERESA MARRESE Calvi Risorta, Italia facebook.com/Mariateresa-Marrese-ph-1546999335538842/

instagram.com/mariateresamarrese/

I was born in Capua (CE) in 1962. After obtaining my diploma, I graduated in Law at the Federico II University of Naples. Currently, I am passionately involved in the teaching of legal and economic disciplines at the “ISISS UGO FOSCOLO in Teano. I live in Calvi Risorta, a small town in the Caserta area, with my husband, three children, five dogs, two cats, six hens, a rooster and a turtle.

Since 2014 I have seriously dedicated myself to what has always been my passion: photography. I attended a course and have not stopped shooting since. My photographic ideal is inspired by simplicity; I work instinctively, perhaps unconsciously, following my intuition. I like to capture those moments in which people and things reveal themselves. I have participated in various exhibitions and competitions with satisfactory results and, in 2016, I published SOLO PER AMORE, a collection of my photos accompanied by the verses of Lucia Pellino. This collection was also presented at the MMMF 2017 MIA MARTINI MANTOVA FESTIVAL 2017. 22

MICHELE CICCHETTI Matera, Italia

www.michelecicchetti.it www.michelecicchetti.com

My passion for photography arrived to me in the form of a gift - a vintage compact with a telescopic zoom that in those times seemed worthy of a James Bond gadget of the poor. Digital was far away and the film was a magical (and expensive) possession with a capability to transform the film into an instant memory.

I sailed in ignorance for a long time despite being always fascinated by that alchemy that makes you bewilder, horrify or simply smile looking at a shot. Slowly, passion has grown. The purchase of the first dSLR marked the beginning of a new adventure, and since then correct use of light and search for the right composition are the moments of my cross and delight during every photo session. Time, errors, constancy are my traveling companions. Watching the shots of the great masters of photography is the greatest source of inspiration and education of my eye to beauty, understood not only in an aesthetic sense but as a source of amazement. 34

PERCOCO ROSSANO Cassano delle Murge, Italia nikonphotographers.it/rossanopercoco facebook.com/rossano.percoco 500px.com/rossanopercoco

For me photography is an expressive medium that allows us to communicate through emotions, sensations and moods that our eyes see and our hearts feel. We are able to freeze everything in a single instant with a shot, which becomes immortalized and can evoke new emotions when looked upon sometime in future. I love many genres, from portraits to reportage, from glamor to fashion, although I am most inclined towards landscape photography; the latter improved even more when I learned new techniques and incorporated suggestions from the great landscape designer- Marco Carmassi.

In portraits, natural sunlight fascinates me. Manipulating the light and shadows helps me in expressing my emotions and getting closer to the subject’s character. I love black and white compositions. It has a language of its own and being more intense, it gives an opportunity to observe and compose a shot differently, relying much more on lights, shadows, lines and geometric aspects, expressing the most intimate and emotional part of oneself. Apart from my photography trysts, I have had many opportunities to teach photography at various places around my country. 46

SAM LEE 'LZ Selangor, Malaysian

It's been six years since I started my photography journey. I always loved looking at the beautiful photographs of others. Therefore, I purposefully started with buying myself a Canon dSLR, and taking tons of scenery for a starter

I joined a group of friends for shooting.. and even went to Mt Bromo with some photographers for its breathtaking landscapes. I must admit that I learned a lot from those photogs about composition, lights and camera basics. I got into portrait photography by chance, and from there on the passion has continued. Kids’ photography is my prime focus as of now. I had never joined any photography course, training or workshop, and whatever I have achieved is just by trial and error with studio lighting, posing and camera techniques. To me a stunning and inspired photo can express yourself more than a thousand words 70

SILVIA HYLA Trebisacce, Italia facebook.com/Silwia-foto-service-428181167618641/

I am a Polish photographer migrated to Italy for almost 20 years now. My love for photography began when I became a mother; photographing my own kids was the first great passion. From there on I started attending various courses and workshops and concluded my training in Poland with a diploma from a children's photography academy.

I love portraiture, that includes the faces with all of their nuances and the eyes, particularly the ones of shy yet sincere children. I love the colors and the vintage style for my photographs because this allows me to create many stories and lets my photos live like a fairy tale. After a long wishful longing I have now opened my studio where I can immortalize people’s lives with my shots; including children, models and various events while maintaining my style and vision for colors, light and atmosphere that surrounds a photograph. 82
