WePhoto Architecture 2018 - Vol 3 Dear all, This present edition of ‘The Series’ adds yet another feather to an ornate WePhoto cap. The genre this edition covers is Architecture Photography. Since February 2014 WePhoto Group, having one of the widest presence across Facebook, has come this far only because of our passion for photography. Over this time, thanks to the continuous help and support of my likeminded colleagues, we have worked together with equal enthusiasm to create several groups and thematic pages to represent the various styles in photography even better. Today WePhoto group stands tall with twelve different groups and related pages, with picture boards on Pinterest, a dedicated web portal and more than seventy ebooks published on issuu.com. These annual collections called - The Series - comprise eBooks, each belonging to a specific photographic theme, and include the artwork of several authors from Italy and abroad. The one in your hands is the third thematic book dedicated to Architecture Photography. Apart from the e-version these publications are available in the form of coffee table books too.

Thanks and Credits

Special thanks to Yuval Shiboli, Chief of WePhoto Architecture Group/Page, who has helped us select images, contact authors and collect content. His efforts in putting things together at the back office are commendable. My thanks to Germana de Chellis, Chief of Graphic Designers at WePhoto, closely assisted by Pankaj Anand, for their untiring support. Thanks to all the authors who have made this volume such a great collection with their valuable contributions. Thanks to our staff too, which is constantly managing and taking care of the group with its 12 thematic pages, groups, online magazines and an exclusive photography portal. Thanks to my admin colleagues for their understanding and dedication. All this time when I remain away from the routine management of our network, they are the ones who take care of everything for the groups. I have no words to express my gratitude for the wonderful work they do every day with great passion and commitment.

Architectural Photography Not all buildings and architectural structures are made beautiful and not all great buildings may come out good in photographs, unless we have a deep understanding of perspectives or angles; and know how to see light. Having said that I consider architectural photography and its post processing to be an arduous job, particularly when it goes beyond merely documenting an elevation and creates an objet d’art. It is only by using the right play of light, whether in real or post production or both that a photo artist adds contrast, shadows, textures and reflections to an image to make it stand out. Presented here-within is a compendium of some of the most powerful images that we have proudly brought under one cover. Hope you would love it as much as we did. Mario BunÄ?uga

ANDY VANNECKE Eernegem, Belgium

500px.com/andyvannecke www.instagram.com/andyvannecke

My name is Andy Vannecke, I'm 34 years old and live in Belgium. I have been really active in the world of photography since past 2 years. My focus genre has been architecture in long exposure. Architecture photography has become my passion; every location seems to challenge me to find the best possible composition for a picture.

It gets interesting once I reach home and start working on an image. It can take hours to post process a single picture and I work on it until I’m convinced of having realized my vision. I usually work in black and white. Hopefully I could inspire other people with my work, so more people may choose fine art architecture photography. 8

ERIC CHATELAIN St. Julien en Genevois, France

www.eric-chatelain.ch www.instagram.com/echatelain36 camerapixo.com/photographers/eric-chatelain echatelain36@yahoo.com

I am a 60 year old amateur photographer living in the suburbs of Geneva, Switzerland. It was only from April 1st 2016 that I began to use a real camera lent by my father in place of a simple smartphone used for shooting. I later acquired a Canon EOS 5D Mark IV to be able to use all the lenses that I had inherited from my father.

As an architect, I am particularly attracted to buildings or bridges with strong contrasts, colors and interesting details, but I can also focus on small things as a flower or a piece of electrical wire. If I had to be described in three words, it would be : passionate, curious and eclectic. 20

FEDERICO LEFFE Milano, Italia

www.facebook.com/federico.leffe .instagram.co/fericoleffe/?hl=it

Mi ero già trovato per le mani una reflex ma l'incontro non fu fruttuoso. L'analogico non faceva per me. Mio padre immortalava coi suoi scatti ciò che amava: la propria famiglia. Io adoro i particolari architettonici. Questo non l'ho capito subito, anzi. Sono arrivato a ciò dopo un processo di ricerca personale durato molto tempo. All'inizio ero attratto dalla street photography.

I had already got a Reflex to use but the results were not very fulfilling. I realized that the analog was not meant for me. My father had immortalized with his shots of what he loved: his own family. But I adored architectural details. I did not understand this right then; on the contrary, I came to this conclusion after an individual research process that took me a long time. At first I was attracted to street photography, but soon I realized that I did not know how to do it. I continue to appreciate it but I don’t indulge in it myself. I began to look for what I could be better recognized with and what caught my fancy. I like to reveal details: a research in research. I express my point of view through the shots I take which also help me rediscover myself. 32

Hannibal Height was born in Mantua, Italy in 1973. He began to study reality through the lens of the camera at the age of 15, fascinated by the mechanical instrument with which he could stop time and create images. With camera, experience and curiosity‌ Hannibal began his journey around the world.

He started holding exhibitions of his pictures in public areas in 2008. It has made his work easily accessible and this way any photo lover can buy their favorite photos from the exhibitions. Most of his work is available on Facebook and Instagram. 44

JOHN PAPULA Vienna, Austria

johnpapula@gmail.com facebook.com/johnpapulaphotography/ instagram.com/johnpapulaphotography/

My name is John Papula. I am Portuguese, currently living in Vienna, Austria. Photography has always been my passion. Architectural and urban photography are the main themes of my work. The appeal of architecture lies in simplicity of its beauty.

Architects are artists that imprint their unique trace in the structures they design - and I love using photography to present these forms through my own visual interpretation, to direct attention, convey a story, or express the intangible quality of a particular physical building structure or space. I enjoy finding geometry and symmetry in details, and will often seek to register them in abstract images that highlight intrinsic forms and concepts. I always aim to capture the image in camera, with very limited post- production, in order to retain its essence that is authentic and faithful to the subject’s genuine presence. 56

KRZYSZTOF MATERNIA Warsaw, Poland

archiscape.pl facebook.com/archiscape.photo/

My name is Krzysztof Maternia. For the past 9 years photography has been a significant part of my life. I started with taking pictures of my f a m i ly, a n d t h e n m o v e d t o l a n d s c a p e photography. After all these years I still enjoy capturing beautiful sights (in Poland as well as other countries), but in the meantime I also developed passion for modern architecture photography. With time, it has become my primary hobby.

I am amazed at what human brain can conceive, design and build – and I want to show exactly this with my pictures. I treat the visited buildings as a starting point and invitation to explore and experiment – I search for patterns, shapes, and try to show the impression that well designed architecture makes on me. I love bright vivid colors and simple forms, and hope to inspire you to also look for them in the places you visit. 68

OSVALDO GHIRARDI Bobbio Pellice, Italia

facebook.com/osvaldo.ghirardi.5 osviotto@dag.it Sono nato a Torre Pellice (To) nel Gennaio del 1956.

I was born in Torre Pellice (To) in January 1956. Now I live in an Alpine valley near Turin, a few steps from the French border. I've taken photographs for many years, ranging from landscapes to marriages, from underwater to travel photographs. The final inspiration came a few years ago, when I discovered by chance some photos taken by Julia Anna Gospodarou. The photography of this “visionary architect-turned-photographer has become my daily bread. The Black and White technique is the way to transcend reality with imagination, creating a different world only with lines, volumes and light. 80
