CHELSEA STATION Final Presentation Studio 27 - CONNECT Mario Yohanes Rinaldy 917889
MAIN CONCEPTS
THE SHELTERED COURT
TRANSFORMING IDENTITY
To unite the east and west parts that was divided by the rail track, the new station acts as a singular meeting place in a sheltered urban square typology. The station’s undulating roof which responds to the functions and programs below it acts as a driver to formulate activities and exchange underneath.
Reorganization of the overall urban road layout transformed the autooriented Nepean Highway into a more pedestrian shopping high street. Bicycle path ran alongside the rail track under, preventing the need for cyclists to stop at every intersection. Further emphasizing Chelsea as the town center, commercial and public market and food stalls alongside a landscaped promenade complements the existing context. The vibrancy created ensure safety and surveillance throughout the day.
SITE ANALYSIS Problems and Opportunities Problems: - Tight site - Lack of open spaces for community - Lack of pedestrian crossing between east and west retails and access to beach - Lack of bicycle infrastructure - Preservation of Nepean Highway speed - Preservation of the number of car parking spaces - Unsafe on-street parking on Nepean Highway and Station Street due to speed. - Safety/Crime issue, unsafe laneway and alleyways
Opportunities: - Move the station - Creation of a public square, connection between both sides - ELEV: free access below rail ; UNDR: Addition of more pedestrian crossings - ELEV: SUP under rail ; UNDR: SUP side of rail - Preservation of Nepean Highway speed - ST: Remain the same ; LT: Transport mode switch campaign - Provision of better public transport access - Laneway activation, Station as passive surveillance.
SITE ANALYSIS Station to the South Advantages: + Better centralized area in town center + Both sides retail now connected through station + New urban spaces + Better access to the beach and Victory Park + Parking capacity remain the same, even can be increased + Intersections now safer, further from pedestrian thoroughfare + Wider site area to design station + Residential amenity preserved
Disadvantages: - Some retail are now slightly further - Not equidistant to Bonbeach and Edithvale

PROGRAM DIVISION
TRIM
Forms are arranged in a triangular relation with each other, ensuring sightlines for surveillance, and surrounding the newly formed square typology.
The station proper contains an Anchor retail to attract people in. New retail program is also added towards the South to complement the exisiting Nepean Highway retail.
Forms are trimmed and angled to guide people towards various points in the station project: the square, the platform, the market.
