River contamination is based on the analysis of data collected from ARPA and regional resources. They are average resultant from point measurements on the stations alongside rivers. They cannot be considered as precise, also due to the nature of water flow variability. The whole state of Po is rather average. In some places high density of contaminated sites are close to the worst condition of the water system, but surprisingly water pollution cannot be always connected to location of site contamination. Although, presence of industrial sites and amount of them definitely impact state of the river and tributaries. Some of the tributaries, like Lambro river, are highly polluted due to the cause situated outside of the examined area. 38
