WELCOME
We might be preparing for our 10-year anniversary in 2019, but we haven’t spared any energy to bring you a truly great Autumn Season. There’s something for everyone, regardless if you’re a dance connoisseur or an absolute newcomer. We’re presenting two world premieres, commissioned by DanceEast, to open and close the season. We’re also delighted to be welcoming SPILL Festival back into the building at the end of October. Do watch out for SPILL events throughout Ipswich, not least the extraordinary Clarion Call that will be happening here on the Waterfront. We’ve also got plenty of visiting artists who want to get moving with you in the studio and this October our Baby Loves to Boogie disco is themed around Diwali, which is going to be an exciting and colourful event. Brendan Keaney Artistic Director & Chief Executive
In the run up to Christmas we have two new family shows. Holly Noble will be making her Jerwood DanceHouse debut with Snow, inspired by Snow White, and Luca Silvestrini and Protein Dance will be presenting a brand-new dance work, for children aged 5 to 105, based on another classic 'The Little Prince'. If you haven’t been to a DanceEast Christmas show before, don’t miss this opportunity, Luca has pulled together a great creative team and we’re in for something very special! I suggest you start tweeting now #LuckyIpswich.

mankind was battling within, while engaging in more conventional warfare in the world outside. Set to an atmospheric soundscape, this dance installation with digital visuals echoes the scientific features of a virus - rapid, random and constantly shape-shifting. Eight female dancers contort and mutate, exploring both the resilience and the vulnerability of the human body. Shobana Jeyasingh is a leading female choreographer and we are eager to welcome her return after her most recent visit to DanceEast as part of Dance Umbrella’s My Dance DNA, which was live streamed to the world from our very own theatre.

JASMIN VARDIMON COMPANY
Created on the coast of Barcelona and inspired by its marine life, Jasmin Vardimon presents her new work Medusa. Celebrating 20 years of the Jasmin Vardimon Company, this piece examines the gendered historical significance of Medusa; the myth, the symbolism and the philosophical idea of ‘reflection’. This new full-length production not only looks back to deconstruct the myth but will also look forward and explore her aquatic symbolism in the environmental future of our seas. Jasmin Vardimon is another leading female choreographer that we are excited to feature this season. We enjoyed having the Jasmin Vardimon Company work with the DanceEast Centre for Advanced Training students over the summer this year, and we are very fortunate to welcome them back for this three-night run, you won’t want to miss the company in action.

DAVID HOYLE “The show is a celebration of survival against overwhelming odds. We have a LGBT history we are proud of.” – David Hoyle Diamond is a bitter sweet journey into LGBT liberation from 1957 to current day events through the thrilling biography of David Hoyle. Weaving together intimate personal experience and public events, Diamond charts David’s rise from gay adolescent in Blackpool to famous Channel 4 Antidrag queer cult phenomenon. An unforgiving piece of avant-garde theatre, Diamond navigates the transformation of gay counter-cultures, queer gender and sexuality, and British social attitudes, and will appeal to all with liberation in their heart.
