Educating people about health can be a difficult proposition. Especially once you realize that health recommendations and dietary choices are not a one size fits all situation.

Something that may not be a concern for one person might be the most vital thing for another.

So, in an effort to better serve the communities that The United Family calls home, the company launched a health enhancement to the existing grocery app as part of their new campaign — Eat Better, Live Better. This new system lets you discover personalized health scores, find foods to fit your lifestyle and set goals.

“For many of our guests and team members, making decisions about what to buy at the grocery store can be a difficult task,” said Brenda Garcia, Health and Wellness Manager and Registered Dietitian for The United Family. “When you have specific dietary needs for a medical condition or just your health in general, it can be challenging to navigate nutrition labels and ingredient lists. The hope is this addition will help mitigate some of those difficulties.”

The enhancement will help explain things like the Lifestyle Tags on the shelves that indicate if something is gluten free or carb friendly or a source of protein.

“We believe that well-being is for everyone,” Garcia said. “And this app can help accomplish just that for our guests and team members.”

On top of helping people navigate the store, the app will also create a personalized health score, help guests set goals, connect them to healthcare providers via telehealth, track fitness data from an Apple Watch/Fitbit, manage prescriptions and vaccines, and even reward guests for participating.

Another goal of this campaign and app expansion is to help people understand that food isn’t just something we put in our bodies to alleviate hunger, but rather, it is an indispensable tool to make the body feel at its best. In a time when health is close to the front of everyone’s thoughts, learning how food can be medicinal is a vital step to understanding how to achieve better well-being.

“Our purpose at The United Family is to bring people together around the joys of food and inspire well-being,” said Sidney Hopper, president of The United Family. “Every team member is on their own journey and their solution to health is not a one size fits all and it’s the same for our guests.”
