The Revolutionary ‘Slikfit’ System WeatherSafe WA has recently introduced the revolutionary ‘SlikFit’ Buttonless Tonneau System to our range of ute canopies and tonneau covers. Now people often ask us where the hell did the word ‘Tonneau ‘ come from? It doesn’t really fit with the idea of a cover for the ute or pick up truck. Well, the term actually comes from the French (which is no real surprise) meaning barrel or container. Vehicle covers have been used for years, Originating in the old open top cars and convertibles to stop the rain coming in when they were parked. These days they are mainly used to cover your gear in the ute but they also help in reducing fuel consumption. Engineers have discovered utes experience a significant reduction in the ‘drag coefficient’ with the addition of a tonneau cover. This reduces the work the car has to do when travelling at speeds over 60KPM. The SLIKFIT Buttonless Tonneau System is a patented tonneau track system that makes it possible to custom fit a buttonless tonneau to any ute. The system consists of an aluminium track that is attached to the top edge of the ute tray, and a robust plastic strip sewn to the tonneau. No buttons, no bunji cord, no clips or press studs, just a neat and tidy finish.

The STA Conference Wasn’t All Work The long weekend in June is when Our industry Body ‘The Specialised Textile Association’ STA holds its annual conference and awards presentation. This year it was held in partnership with the BMAA, The Blind Makers Association of Australia at the Convention centre on the Gold Coast. As you can imagine when two Australian industries get together and hold an expo it was massive. Four of us from WeatherSafe WA made the trek, myself, Ryan our Operations Manager, Leo our Installation Manager and Dean our Sales Manager. We saw lots of great new products, machinery and manufacturing techniques that we have brought back to WA. We also had the chance to catch up with old friends in the industry from all across Australia. The Gala Awards night was a chance for us to dress up in our finest suits and see what the industry has to offer. We were lucky enough to win an award for the blinds we made to fit the bush poles. (You
Mark and our old friend Eric Moonen from Abacus Shade Structures in Sydney found time to have a chat and a drink while at the Ricky Richards Function at the recent STA conference. The boys are all smiles as both companies won Industry awards the night before.
may remember from the last edition of the Weather Report) We also bought a brand new impulse welder to weld the sides of our new Slidetrack blinds. This will raise the quality and the longevity of our blinds to be the absolute best quality on the market. It wasn’t all work of course...we did find time to have a good time, drink a few beers and sample some of the great restaurants on the Gold Coast.
Bunbury Dome Revamp We just finished a revamp of the Bunbury Dome Café outdoor alfresco area. The Dome has had our Deluxe rope and pulley blinds for about five years now and they were starting to get old and tired.
We are finding though, that with our new Slidetrack system there is less wear and tear on the actual fabric. No ropes or straps rubbing against the material so the clear skin maintains its clear look for much longer.
That is a bit of a problem with the clear PVC. Over time and with lots of use the clear PVC tends to get scratched up, starts to look a bit cloudy and shows up the dirt. This is one of the main reasons why we recommend the WeatherBlock mesh fabrics for your outdoor blinds. The mesh works just as well as the clear for keeping out the wind and rain and has the added bonus of providing shade in the summer.
So with this in mind we are recommending the clear PVC more and more, but only when it’s used with the Slidetrack system. Anyway, I was talking with the staff the other day and they love their new Slidetracks. The ease of use makes it a simple matter to raise and lower the blinds whenever necessary. It was a bit of a chore and no one
wanted to do it with the old style blinds. Also the new blinds have given a slick new look to the Domes outdoor dining area and with the front two blinds on a slight angle gives the room a point of difference.

Send Me a Photo Of Your Pet and WIN a 7” Tablet We have a new addition to our family. A puppy named ‘Cookie’. This adorable little dog, left abandoned with a couple of her brothers, was rescued by our neighbour who promptly brought her over to show my daughters. Well it wasn’t too long before choruses of “Can we keep her Dad?” came in my direction. My girls have been asking for a dog for a while so I finally gave in and said yes.

Now we live in an old house with verandas around the back and side. WeatherSafe installed zip style clear blinds about ten years ago to make the area more liveable. They are still working fine to this day but it might be time to upgrade to Slidetrack blinds I think! Anyway I believe that dogs should live outside, and our back veranda, protected by patio blinds is the perfect place for Cookie to live. So if you have purchased any WeatherSafe Product that makes your life and your pets more comfortable then we would like to know. Send us a picture of your pet under, next to or on a WeatherSafe product be it a Shade sail, patio blind, ute canopy or even a dog bed. The best picture will win a cool 7” Tablet PC and every one who enters will score a Broad rimmed WeatherSafe Hat. Email reception@weathersafewa.com.au with your picture along with your name and phone number. or post it to My Pet Picture Competition PO Box 195 Bunbury WA 6231.
You may remember in Autumn I told you about the shade sails that we were building on the beach in Bunbury. Well after trialling the single sail for a few months we installed the three sails just in time for the last few weeks of the swimming season. So they we be up again at the end of spring ready for what’s sure to be another long hot summer.

Joyce’s Islay Loaf
Hands All Over Well the council have finally put the finishing touches to their $2 million redevelopment of Hands Oval in Bunbury. We were fortunate to win the tender to supply a waterproof shade shelter for the spectator mound on the south west flank of the oval. We designed and installed a 6 and a half metre projection straight cantilever structure 34 metres wide. The structure is covered with a special long lasting PVC plastic designed purely for tension membrane structures, and has an estimated life of 25 years.

A Great Lesson on Stress I went to a seminar the other week. The presenter, a young lady, confidently walked around the room with a raised glass of water while explaining stress management to her audience. Everyone knew she was going to ask the ultimate question, ‘Half empty or half full?’ She fooled us all. “How heavy is this glass of water?” she inquired with a smile. Answers called out ranged from 150 grams to half a kilo. She replied, “The absolute weight doesn’t matter. It depends on how long I hold it. If I hold it for a minute, that’s not a problem. If I hold it for an hour, I’ll have an ache in my right arm. If I hold it for a day, you’ll have to call an ambulance. In each case it’s the same weight, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes.” She continued, “and that’s the way it is with stress. If we carry our burdens all the time, sooner or later, as the burden becomes increasingly heavy, we won’t be able to carry on.” “As with the glass of water, you have to put it down for a while and rest before holding it again. When we’re refreshed, we can carry on with the burden - holding stress longer and better each time practiced. So, as early in the evening as you can, put all your burdens down. Don’t carry them through the evening and into the night. Pick them up again tomorrow if you must. So I got to thinking about what stresses me out and what things you can and can’t control. I found these gems… I hope you like them.
1.
Accept the fact that some days you’re the pigeon, and some days you’re the statue!
2.
Always keep your words soft and sweet, just in case you have to eat them.
3.
Always read stuff that will make you look good if you die in the middle of it.
4.
Drive carefully... It’s not only cars that can be recalled by their Maker.
5.
If you can’t be kind, at least have the decency to be vague.
6.
If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.
7.
It may be that your sole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.
8.
Never buy a car you can’t push.
9.
Never put both feet in your mouth at the same time, because then you won’t have a leg to stand on.
10.
Nobody cares if you can’t dance well. Just get up and dance.
11.
Since it’s the early worm that gets eaten by the bird, sleep late.
12.
The second mouse gets the cheese.
13.
When everything’s coming your way, you’re in the wrong lane.
14.
Birthdays are good for you. The more you have, the longer you live.
15.
Some mistakes are too much fun to make only once.
16.
We could learn a lot from crayons. Some are sharp, some are pretty and some are dull. Some have weird names and all are different colors, but they all have to live in the same box.
17.
A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour.
18.
Have an awesome day and know that someone has thought about you today. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY
19.
Save the earth..... It’s the only planet with chocolate!*
