The City of Big Bear Lake is located in the San Bernardino mountain range at approximately 6,750 ft. There is a thriving forest full of pine trees such as the Ponderosa pine, Jeffrey pine, Sugar pine, Lodgepole pine, and many more. We will meet at the Student Recreation and Wellness Center at 8am to pack up the van and make sure we all have the necessary and proper gear and attire for a successful trip. It’s then a short 1 hour drive up the San Bernardino Mountains. Once there we will explore the town and have lunch. Afterwards, we shall get ourselves situated for kayaking in Big Bear Lake! We will stop for dinner before heading home (not included).

Yosemite National Park is one of the first wilderness parks and most popular in the United States. Yosemite is best known for its waterfalls, but within its nearly 1,200 square miles you can find deep valleys, grand meadows, ancient giant sequoias, a vast wilderness area, and much more. While there, we will be camping in the park and taking side trips to view the thousand foot granite walls, some of which include the famous El Capitan, exploring the valley and taking in the scenery.

We will head to Venice Beach and partake in a 2-4 hours of community service. After the service, we will have a picnic on the sand beach and check out the shops in the area. In the afternoon, we will embark on a scenic, 2 hour bike cruise along the coastline, which encompasses popular sites such as the Santa Monica Pier, the Pacific Park, and a quaint local aquarium.

COFFIN CREEK
The Coffin Creek Haunt is something all of the Inland Empirians should experience. This Corona house and creek is home to what used to be 13 coffins that were lifted during severe flooding in the 1930’s. Remains from some coffins were never found and authorities had to call off the search when things got too creepy in the nearby woods. You will partake in two of 5 haunted attractions.

This hike takes us along the east fork of the San Gabriel River to and through the steepest river gorge in Southern California. Expect to get wet as we cross the river numerous times. An extra pair of shoes is recommended. The hike is 9 miles round trip with 1000 ft. of elevation gain. One of the highlights of the hike is a mysterious bridge built over the east fork in 1936, which has no road leading to it. The bridge was meant to be part of a road connecting the San Gabriel Valley with Wrightwood in the late 1930s. So come join us, CSUSB Outdoors, on our Bridge to Nowhere Hike!

SANTA CRUZ ISLAND CAMPING
If you are looking for a cultural experience you’ll find it in Downtown L.A. We will begin our tour on Olvera Street, the birthplace of the City of Los Angeles, otherwise known as EI Pueblo Historic Monument. This colorful village features 27 historic buildings and a traditional Mexican style plaza. We will then head over the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) stopping at the Grand Central Market for lunch. MOCA is the only museum in Los Angeles devoted exclusively to contemporary art. It houses one of the nation’s most renowned permanent collections.

Upon arrival we will find a scenic spot to enjoy our lunch. After this we will begin the adventure of ziplining! Here you will zoom past the scenic outdoor views of the beautiful wilderness below you. Once we finish we will head back to campus, stopping for dinner if desired.

GRAND CANYON CAMPING
We’ve all seen images of the canyon on print or on screen but there is nothing like arriving at the rim to take it all in – the immensity, the depth, the atmosphere, and the light. During this three day, two night camping trip, we will be setting up camp at Mather Campground and taking a one day to hike to Plateau Point where you’ll have great views of the Colorado River that formed the towering canyons all around.

It is the perfect kayaking adventure for beginner or seasoned paddler alike, for the lower Colorado River is moving flat water with no rapids – nothing but astoundingly tranquil, turquoise waters. On this trip, we will paddle between the towering cliffs and the looming walls of the Black Canyon as we navigate the once mighty Colorado River, now tamed by the zenith of dam engineering – the Hoover Dam, where we launch the kayaks.

Located approximately 40 miles southeast of Palm Springs along the San Andreas Fault are the Mecca Hills. The Mecca Hills were formed by the convergence of the North American Plate and the Pacific Plate along the San Andreas Fault. The Painted Canyons, named for the beautiful hues of rose, pink, red, purple and green is the center attraction. Join us, CSUSB Outdoors, as we explore the ladder slot canyon loop hike. A five mile adventure through twisting canyons and ladders that we will climb up and down. The hike itself takes about 4 hours to complete so bring plenty of water to stay hydrated.

We leave campus at 7am for the short drive up the hill and an afternoon of playing in the Edge Terrain Park, the Ski Zone, and Snow Play area. This trip is perfect for both beginners who need a bit more instruction and for those of us who think we are Shaun White and are ready for gnarly terrain park. No experience is required, as instruction will be provided.
